1 July 1929 • Monday

Very warm weather.

I played a 6 hole game of golf with Prests. Grant & Nibley & F. Y. Taylor.

I visited my daughter Sarah at the L.D.S. Hospital and gave her a blessing for confinement. She came to the Hospital yesterday.

2 July 1929 • Tuesday

My daughter Sarah gave birth to a fine baby boy at abt 8: A.M. Both doing well.

I attended quarterly meeting of the Twelve and attended to some correspondence &c. Went to the Hospital

3 July 1929 • Wednesday

Warm day.

I visited my daughter at the hospital. Attended to some business for Ray down town.

Ray went to the scout encampment 26 miles East of Ogden & returned in the evening.

Spencer & Estella came in the evening about 7: P.M.

Mother & I and other members of the family attended a birthday reception of Dr. Peterson’s tendered Alberta Gallagher Wm Petersons Sister, Rays [illegible] [page break]

4 July 1929 • Thursday

Home.

All usually well

Warm day

My Son George and family returned last night from the Coast and this morning he and Franklin & Ray & I played an eighteen hole game of golf.

In the afternoon I remained at home and retired early.

Jack and Ruby and Estella and Spencer stayed with us last night

5 July 1929 • Friday

Mother, Ray and I left home at 5:10 A.M. for Keisel Camp 69. miles from here about 29 miles above Ogden, East of Huntsville, where we left Ray with the Scouts. We took breakfast with Seymour Dilworth Young the Care taker of the Park. On our way home we called on Bro. & Sis. James Gunn McKay and spent about an hour visiting them. They invited us to spend a week with them this summer.

Arrived home about 2:15 P.M.

6 July 1929 • Saturday

I spent a good portion of the day at home. Played a game of golf with Pres. Joseph Anderson.

7 July 1929 • Sunday

With my Car, and Mother, Joel and Georgina accompanying, I went to Kamas where we attended Summit Stake Conference at 10: A.M. and 1:00 P.M. Joel & I attended & Spoke at both [page break] meetings. Had good conference, and after meeting drove more than one hundred miles to Camp Keisel, 20 miles East of Ogden where our son Ray was in an encampment with Jamboree Scouts. We attended this camp fire meeting and left for home at 9:40 P.M. Arrived home at 12 o’clock midnight.

8 July 1929 • Monday

I took my car to the shop for cleaning, greasing &c, thence to the Temple where I attended to desk work &c. I did some few things in aid of my son Ray to get off for the Jamboree & Mission.

9 July 1929 • Tuesday

I went to Ogden & got Ray who came down from Kiesel Camp with S. D. Young to Ogden 29 miles. We by failure at that end had about two or three hours wait in Ogden.

Mother & I took Ray and Alberta Gallacher to Hotel Utah Caffateria to Supper and to the Capitol Theater.

10 July 1929 • Wednesday

I spent hours with Ray arranging his transportation to Europe & making ready otherwise. I spent some time at the Temple. I[n] the evening Mother & I took supper with the Gallacher family, Ray being present, in his honor.

11 July 1929 • Thursday

I was in meeting with the Twelve and Presidency from 9: A.M. to 3 P.M. Assisted Ray to get off for his [page break] scout Jamboree and mission in Europe. He left on the U.P. 5:45 P.M. train. Mother and I accompanied him as far as Ogden. we also took Alberta with us. Oliver & Marie came to Ogden with their car and brought us home. There were ten or eleven other scouts leaving with Ray and there were many people at the Depot to see them off.

12 July 1929 • Friday

I went to the Temple in the morning and remained until about 3:30 P.M. I took Hugh J. from his office and my daughter Nerva from her home to the Hospital and got Sarah and baby and took to our home. Later I took Nerva & Hugh & family home, Sarah remaining with us.

13 July 1929 • Saturday

This is Sarah’s 40th Birthday anniversary. Hugh & children had Lucena sent up and I went down to their home later and got them. I went to the Temple about 9:30 and remained there until about 2: P.M.

Made ready and went to Lehi and attended Lehi Stake Conference meeting at 7:30 P.M. Mother & I each wrote a letter to Ray addressed to Philadelphia & sent by air mail. [page break]

14 July 1929 • Sunday

I drove my car to Lehi where I attended and addressed both forenoon and afternoon meeting of the Lehi Stake Conference. Returned home and attended 27th ward sacrament meeting and heard Oliver speak and Marie Sing. After meeting I took Hugh and the children home to 23d So. 7th East.

15 July 1929 • Monday

Home.

Weather warm.

I played a 9 hole game of golf with my son George & his son Franklin in the early morning. Bathed & cleaned up and went to the Temple where I worked at my desk. I wrote my son Ray a two paged letter, addressed to “Hotel Prince George” New York City, N.Y. & sent it by air mail. I went to the Hospital at the request of Prest. Grant where I met the President, Elders Geo. A. & Jos. F. Smith, R R Lyman and M J Ballard. We administered to Pres. Grants daughter Emily G. Madsen who was at that time very ill and in a dangerous condition. By request I anointed her and Elder G. A. Smith confirmed the anointing. I took Hugh J. & children home the night before. Nina & Orin called in the evening.

16 July 1929 • Tuesday

Home.

Very warm day.

Rained, afternoon.

I played a game of golf in the [e]arly morning with a Mr. Broderick. After taking a bath &c I went to the Temple where I attended to desk work &c. Later we took Sarah and baby to their home. They having [page break] been with us <since> the 12th inst.

I visited at administered Brother Arthur J. Smith, one of our Temple officiators.

Spent the even at home.

17 July 1929 • Wednesday

Home.

Pleasant day.

My son George & I spent some time together planning for a trip in the N.W. I spent about 8 hours in the Temple at my desk mainly.

18 July 1929 • Thursday

Home.

I spent sometime in the Temple in the forenoon, Attended the funeral Services of John Mayer in the Cannon ward chapel at 2: P.M. and was one of the Speakers.

Towards evening I took my car and with me, my wife, Orin & Nina and their Children and went to Ogden where we got Edna and went up to the Hermitage Resort, and back to Farr Park where we ate a splendid luncheon, and back to Edna’s rooms and at 9:40 P.M. we left for Salt Lake. Arrived in Salt Lake at 11:00 P.M.

19 July 1929 • Friday

I played golf with Frank Y. Taylor and Joseph Anderson, took Mother to the Victory theater at 4: P.M., Had director’s meeting of the Richards Motor Co at 8:00 P.M. at our Home.

20 July 1929 • Saturday

This is the day our Son Ray sails for Europe in the Cedric N.Y. I spent some time at the Temple [page break] This being my vacation period, my Son George & Edith & Mother & I left S.L. about 4: P.M. and drove to Cornish via the Logan. We met Jack and Ruby and Orin Jr. in Logan and I took them all to the Cafateria to supper thence to a show; and to Cornish after

21 July 1929 • Sunday

Cornish.

We spent the day at Ruby’s until about 7:45 P.M. when we left for home in Salt Lake. Called to see Edna in Ogden but she was not in.

22 July 1929 • Monday

I spent a good portion of the time at home. Played a game of golf.

23 July 1929 • Tuesday

This is my vacation period. I have had a restful & enjoyable day.

24 July 1929 • Wednesday

I played golf with my sons Geo, LeGrand Richards in the early morning. Mother and I took dinner at Mamies. Later we took them to the Pan.

25 July 1929 • Thursday

I took my car to the shop to be greased &c. thence to the Temple. Wrote to my son Ray at Birkenhead &c.

26 July 1929 • Friday

Made ready to leave in the morning for Georgetown, Bear Lake, Idaho. Estella Lee came home with Mother & me from Sugar House and [page break] spent the night that we might the easier get an early start in the morning.

27 July 1929 • Saturday

Mother and her two sisters, Maria & Estella and I left in my

DeSoto Delux Car at 6:25 A.M. for Georgetown, Bear Lake.

We went via Saurdine Canyon and including stops arrived in Georgetown at 12:25. A cool day and pleasant ride. We were graciously received and entertained at Sister Sarah Robinson Dunn’s home where we met several of their married children and other family members.

28 July 1929 • Sunday

Georgetown, Ida.

Cool weather

I spent the day visiting & reading. I read through the book entitled Van Patten. It was intensely interesting. In my car we went to Montpelier 12 miles & back & to Georgetown proper, the ranch being out of town.

29 July 1929 • Monday

Georgetown, Idaho.

Pleasant weather,

We left Sarah Dunn’s home about 8:45 A.M. and returned via Grace and Gentile valley. Called on Jack Reiley & at the Logan Temple. Arrived home about 9:45 P.M. Received word that Ray & Company had safely landed in Liverpool as per schedule this date. In Lewiston I administered to a little Waddaups girl afflicted with Infantile Paralysis.

Our trip was most pleasant. [page break]

30 July 1929 • Tuesday

I played a game of gold with my son George between 5: & 2: A.M. Made some repairs &c about the place and spent about six hrs. in the Temple.

31 July 1929 • Wednesday

Rained last night

I took Mother, Sarah & Hugh & children for a ride up Emigration Canyon where we visited a while with Nerva & family. I mailed a letter to my son Ray at Berkenhead, Eng.
