Arrived in Paris at 9:40 A.M. Pres. Rulon S. Wells joined me at Montpelier. We were met at the Depot by Pres. Weker and taken to his home where we met his Counselors and with the Presidency engaged in meeting until 10:25 A.M. When we went to the Tabernacle and attended a Priesthood Convention meeting of the Presidency, H. Council & Bishoprics. I treated the topic: “Essentials of Leadership.” At the afternoon Pres Wells took the topic: “Priesthood a perfect plan of Service & I lead the discussion on the subject of ward teaching.
In the evening we met with the Stake Presidency again.
2 March 1924 • Sunday
Paris, Idaho.
Am well.
Fine day.
I spoke in the forenoon meeting on the topic: Responsibility of the [page break] Priesthood to the World and to the Church.” At the afternoon session I spoke about 25 min: Thy will be done; sacrifice; Genealogical questions answered. I left the Conference in the hands of Pres. Wells and I took 2:10 train for home arriving at 10:40 in Salt Lake. Elder R. R. Lyman boarded the train at Downey and we visited together and read & studied together all the way down from them. When I reached home I learned that Mamie’s Marjorie has measles.

On my way to the Temple I called on Pres. Grant and had a conversation with him in regards to Temple ordinances. Received a letter from Thos. S. Kimball in answer to a letter I wrote to him offering to trade my holdings these for his 1/3 interest in a garage property in Kaysville. He is investigating. I wrote a number of letters including one to Bro. T. S. Kimball, one to my son-in-law Orin Woodbury & others.
I went down to the 29th ward and administered to a Sister Nelson and to the L.D.S. Hospital and administered to Sister Woodbury, Orin’s Mother. Spent the evening at home.
4 March 1924 • Tuesday
Met with Jos. F. Smith & Jos. Christensen in my office and Sister Evelyn Clark. The latter revealed some secrets about practices of [first and last names redacted] & his sister. [page break] I was one of the speakers at the funeral services of Bro John Gallagher, held in second ward. There were seven or eight other speakers. Attended to some business outside the Temple.
In the evening my son George & I attended the Yokel Dern wrestling match where Ira Dern regained the title Middle weight wrestler of the world by an aeroplane fall which disabled Yokel.
5 March 1924 • Wednesday
Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. In the evening Mother and I attended the wedding supper of Lucy Lee & her husband, a Bro Berry at her fathers home.
6 March 1924 • Thursday
I attended to my duties at the Temple and attended the weekly meeting of the Presidency and the Twelve held in the Temple. I led in the prayer at the altar and assisted in administering the Sacrament. Was in the temple from 8:10 to 8:10 twelve hours.
7 March 1924 • Friday
I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I interviewed Bro. & Sister Joseph Hubbard & wife and Bro Charles S. Woodward, and set them apart as regular Temple workers in the Salt Lake Temple. Bro & Sis Hubbard will have to change their residence from Willard City to Salt Lake. Bro. Woodard is to do evening work. [page break] I wrote to Senator Thos. S. Kimball of Thatcher and to Bp Wm O. Tyler of Fort Thomas, Arizona. (Business letters.) I took 11:50 train for Montpelier. Changed trains at McCammon at 5 A.M. next morning.

I arrived in Montpelier at 7:50 A.M. Was met at the depot by Pres. Edward Rich and escorted to his home where I made my stay while in Montpelier.
Attended meetings as programmed for the Priesthood Convention three in number and did my part in each.
9 March 1924 • Sunday
Montpelier.
This is my wedding anniversary the 42nd. I spoke at the morning meeting occupying 45 min. on the Responsibility of the Priesthood to the Church and to the world. At the afternoon meeting I occupied 45 minutes on the subject of “Tithing” “Sacrifice,” & “Thy will be done.” Read extracts from Brown Book on Tithing. I took the 3:00 P.M. train for home and reached Salt Lake at 10:50 P.M.
10 March 1924 • Monday
I went to the Temple as usual and after disposing of the mail & other necessary desk work I called upon the Presidency [page break] and arranged that President Ivins should go over the Temple ordinances with me and Jos. F. Smith and give consideration to changes I have proposed, before the Presidency take them up. We sat as such committee from 2:40 to 4:030. I wrote a letter to my son Oliver who is in Germany.
As the guests of my son LeGrand and his wife, Mother & I; George & Edith; Joel & Georgina and Nina accompanied them to the Victory Theater in the evening.
11 March 1924 • Tuesday
I went to the Temple as usual. Attended to some important matters with Elder J. F. Smith & Recorder Christensen settling some difficulties &c. Attended to correspondence &c. With Sister Richards, Bro. Christensen & architect Fetzer I went to Z.C.M.I. and to Dinwoodey’s looking for carpet for the large hall in the Temple. Attended a meeting of the U.I.V. Co. Directors.
12 March 1924 • Wednesday
I went to the Temple as usual and had a busy day.
Sister Lilly Lambert Woodbury, Orin’s mother died at about 2:30 o’clock this afternoon at the L.D.S. Hospital. I wrote a letter of condolence to Orin. I attended my Circle meeting and a meeting of the officers of the Richards Family at Ezra Stevenson’s home.
13 March 1924 • Thursday
I attended to my duties at the [page break] Temple. Attended Weekly Council meeting in the Temple. Wrote to Bro. Frank B. Woodbury a letter of condolence over the loss of his wife.
I took 4:45 P.M. R.G. train for Price, thence for Duchesne. Bro. Jos F. Smith Jr. was with me on his way to Roosevelt Stake. We put up at Commercial Hotel in Price, both occupying the same room.

Price, Utah.
Am well.
We went by stage from Price to Duchesne. I stayed at the home of Pres. Billings. Roads good and pleasant auto stage ride about 55 mi.
15 March 1924 • Saturday
I attended the Convention-Conference meetings as scheduled and held extra meeting with the Stake Presidency in evening. Later attended a M.I.A. contest in story telling & debating at Duchesne.
16 March 1924 • Sunday
Duchesne.
I am well—
Attended and spoke at all three meetings. At the morning meeting I occupied 35 min. on Responsibility of the Priesthood to the Church & to the world. At afternoon meeting I occupied about 50 mins. Thy will be done & “Two powers.” Applied to Cardplaying, Secret orders, Word of Wisdom &c.
At evening meeting I occupied the time, Subject—Marriage. I ordained & set apart a number of Brethren. List filed. A strenuous day.
17 March 1924 • Monday
I went to [page break] Helper by Auto stage where I got train for Salt Lake and arrived at 9:40 P.M. Am well. I found my son Ray sick with a sort of Lagrip. I administered to him before retiring.
18 March 1924 • Tuesday
Home.
Ray, Clarence Jr., and Pattie are ill.
I went to the Temple as usual where I had many letters to consider and answer and other desk work to do.
My son Ray seems to have rheumatics as he complains of pain in his hear, legs & feet and arms and hands, the pain changing from one location to another. We consulted Mrs Dr. Nelson and Joel & I administered to him.
During the day I tried to get an appointment with Pres. Ivins who had been appointed by Pres. Grant to consider with me certain proposed changes in Temple ordinances, but he said he could see no opening for such work before next Thursday. At 5:00 P.M. I met Mr. Olson, representing the Continental Life Assurance Co. at my son’s office and considered propositions of settlement on my matured policy for $5000. I decided to take cash settlement. The policy matures Mar. 31, 1924.
In the evening, Nina and I went down to Bro. Frank Woodbury’s and visited with him for about an hr, he having just buried his wife. [16 words redacted relating to a temple ceremony] [page break] [5 words redacted relating to a temple ordinance].
19 March 1924 • Wednesday
Ray had a fairly good night. Mother is at home nursing him. I went to the Temple as usual. Sealed 16 couples and a number of children to parents. I went over the plans of the Arizona Temple with Architect D. C. Young. Attended my Circle meeting and later went to the Paramount Empress show with Mother, Geo L. & Nerva and Nina.
20 March 1924 • Thursday
Ray had a good day yesterday and a good night last night & is feeling well this morning. I went to the Temple as usual for the 8:25 A.M. meeting. Attended weekly Council meeting in Temple. Received appointment to Fremont Stake, for this week-end. I wrote a letter to my son-in-law Orin Woodbury.
In the evening Alice and I went to a show. Later Geo L. & Nerva called and spent an hour or more.
21 March 1924 • Friday
Ray better.
It commenced to snow about 9:00 P.M. and was snowing when I arose in the morning. About 8” of wet snow still lying on the pavement. I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Answered correspondence and attended to desk work &c. All pretty well. [page break]
I took 11:50 P.M. train for Rexburg to attend Fremont Stake Conference.
22 March 1924 • Saturday
Arrived at Rexburg station, 10:41 A.M. and was met by Pres. Mark Austin and Geo. Romney and was taken in auto to meeting which had not yet begun. I took my part in the various meetings as outlined for the Priesthood Conference and was blessed in my ministrations. I stayed over night at Bro. Geo Romney’s home and by his courtesy I attended an opera, “Martha,” by college students.
23 March 1924 • Sunday
I attended H. Council meeting at 9:00 A.M., regular conference meetings at 10:00 A.M. and 2 P.M. and spoke at both. In the forenoon meeting I spoke on the Topic given, “Responsibility of the Priesthood to the Church and to the world, occupying 35 min. At the afternoon meeting I occupied 60 min. Subject. Marriage & divorce &c. Had excellent liberty. I set apart two presidents of seventy in the 148th Q. and set apart three H. Councilmen. Administered to Patriarch Andersen J. Hansen, and ordained a H.P. & set him apart 2nd counselor to Bp. Retting. I had a strenuous day. Took train at 6:06 P.M. for home.
24 March 1924 • Monday
Arrived in Salt Lake at 7:15 A.M. and went home to breakfast. Went to the Temple where I attended [page break] desk work, correspondence &c. I spent the afternoon, a part with Willard Young considering a lecture he has been giving on Temple ordinances and with D. C. Young, Architect for Arizona Temple, considering plans of that temple, Willard Young was with me.
I wrote to Oliver and mailed to him three boxes of leads for his pencils, two of red & 1 of blue. Mailed papers to him also. Wrote to Ruby in the evening.
25 March 1924 • Tuesday
I went to the Temple as usual. I conversed with Pres. Ivins, Willard Young and Don C. Young separately about proposed changes in Arizona Temple construction.
I assisted in setting apart a company of missionaries and Bro. Talmage and I instructed them. I took Mother, Hugh & Sarah to Hotel, Utah Cafeteria to Supper and from there to the Pantages.
26 March 1924 • Wednesday
I went to the Temple as usual, and attended to the usual work & had a busy day. In the evening I attended a banquet given by the Mutual I. A. Boards from 6:30 to 7:50 & then went to the 8th ward where I addressed a small audience on the Subject of Marriage & divorce & rearing families in connection with genealogical Subjects. I [page break] recited, “Which shall it be.” After meeting I remained for some time answering questions.
27 March 1924 • Thursday
I went to the Temple as usual and after the 8:25 meeting Bro J F. Smith and I set apart five of our sister workers, four typists & one proof reader.
Attended Weekly Council meeting and sealed a number of couples. I left the Temple at 7:30 and later Mother & I accompanied my son George & wife to the Wilkes theater.
28 March 1924 • Friday
A heavy snow storm began in the early morning.
I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. The morning meeting was largely attended. We had full companies in each of the five regular sessions of endowments, and to accommodate thos who could not go with the regular session we had an extra session commencing at 3:00 P.M. in which we had 188. In all we had according to count 1,713 endowments for the day. I had an unusually large number of sealings. I was occupied in the temple from before 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. I enjoy my work and to see the work progressing so nicely fills my soul with joy.
I set apart Sisters Holbrook & Call as Temple workers. [page break]

I spent about 6½ hours at my desk in the Temple. The remainder of the day was spent at home.

Cold day. All fairly well. I attended S. School, Fast meeting and Primary Conference in the 27th Ward.
31 March 1924 • Monday
I was in quarterly meeting with the Twelve in the Temple from 9:30 A.M. until 6:15 P.M. We took luncheon in the Temple.
