I had a busy day at the temple. I sealed 28 couples and 21 children to parents of living.
Maria Dougal fell on the font steps of the Temple and hurt herself quite badly. Mother & I took her home in our car and later we took her sister over to see her and while there I administered to Sister Dougal and her married daughter. We took Aunt Zina home. I wrote to my daughter Sarah & Hugh in Switzerland.
Attended my circle meeting in the evening.
2 September 1926 • Thursday
I attended to my duties at the temple as usual and attended weekly council meeting. Spent the evening at home.
3 September 1926 • Friday
Mother & I went to the market and bought fruit to put up. [page break] Attended to my duties as usual. Mother & I went to the L.D.S. Hospital and saw Mercedes, Bro. [Scoonbad?], Calvin W. Richards & Sister Sperry. We also called at Hiram Taylor’s & saw Sister taylor who is in a critical condition. Called on Nina at Sugar House
Spent the evening at home.
4 September 1926 • Saturday
I took my Franklin car and with me, my wife & two sons Oliver & Ray and we went to Cornish in the afternoon to visit my daughter Ruby & her husband. I spent some time in the Temple in the forenoon.
5 September 1926 • Sunday
Cornish, Utah.
I attended sacrament fast meeting in the Cornish ward and by request was the principle speaker. Pres. Funk spoke about 10 min.
I set apart the new bishopric and ward clerk, assisted by Pres. Funk. Geo & Edith came up to Rubys Sunday afternoon and Oliver & Ray drove his car home leaving Cornish at 7:20 P.M.
6 September 1926 • Monday
Cornish.
All well
Labor Day.
Joel & family came up to Cornish arriving there at about 10 A.M. We went for a ride up past Preston We all left for home at 6:35 P.M. and arrived safely at 10:25 P.M.
7 September 1926 • Tuesday
I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I also [page break] assisted in setting apart a company of missionaries. Spent the evenings at home.
8 September 1926 • Wednesday
Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. sealed about twenty couples of living and about fifteen couples of the dead. Elder Widtsoe was the speaker at the morning services. I presented to Pres. Grant the name of Wm. H. Pettegrew to receive the authority to seal that he may assist in the sealing work. He was approved. I spent the evening at home.
9 September 1926 • Thursday
I attended a meeting of the committee on Temple ordinances from 7:30 to 9:00 A.M. Attended meeting of the Twelve & Presidency from 10: A.M. until about 1:00 P.M. The Presidency repaired to my room where Pres. Grant blessed Wm. H. Pettegrew and conferred upon him the Sealing power to officiate in the Temple doing sealing work where appointed. The matter of an assistant to me in the Presidency of the Temple was here considered. I attended to the sealing of the living, four couples
At 4:00 P.M. our Temple ordinance committee convened again for about 1 ½ hours. I spent the evening at home.
10 September 1926 • Friday
I went to the temple as usual in the early morning. [page break]
I made settlement with Jas. S. Castleton for the Auto wreck in which he and Ray were principals. It has cost me approximately $150.00. By request of the President I went through the temple with him in the 5:00 P.M. Company. I was endowed for Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Pres Grant for Pres Warren Harding and later these two celebrities & their wives were sealed Pres & Mrs Grant stood as proxies & I performed the sealing ordinance.
11 September 1926 • Saturday
I took 8:15 train for Fairview, No. Sanpete Stake. Arrived at 11:40 and was met by Br Graham and taken by Auto to his home where I stayed at night. Attended afternoon session of the Convention Conference and the evening M.I.A. entertainment. Met with the Presidency & High Council between meetings.
12 September 1926 • Sunday
Fairview.
Attended and spoke at the forenoon & afternoon meetings and at a special meeting in the Mt. Pleasant North ward where the Bishopric was reorganized. I ordained & set them apart.
My son LeGrand & wife & five children & Mrs. Hemphill having come from Salt Lake on a visit I prevailed on them to wait until after evening meeting and I rode home with them. We left Mt Pleasant at 9:05 P.M. and stopped at Nephi for 30 min. and arrived here at 1:30 A.M. We came nearly having a serious accident. In [page break] applying the emergency brake to stop quickly, the other brake being defective the car skidded and turned half way around on dry pavement. I thank the Lord that nothing more serious happened.
13 September 1926 • Monday
I went down to Sugar House and got Mamie & Nina and called & got Nerva and brought them up to our home and in the evening I took them home. Later Mother & I went to the “American.”
14 September 1926 • Tuesday
I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I went before the Presidency with Elders U. G. Smith & Bro Lessings from So. African Miss. where the [last name redacted] case was considered & decided that she is not entitled to the privileges of the temple. Attended U.I.V. Co. directors meeting. Mother & I visited at the L.D.S. Hospital in the evening the following: Calvin W. Richards, Sister Lelly Sperry and Henry P. Sconberg. Calvins son Horace and I administered to Calvin. Mother and I returned from the hospital to the Temple where we remained until the last Company was through and I sealed a couple that was in that company. During the day I sealed my brother Wilfords daughter Carol and Elder Draper, and a son of Arnold D Miller and his wife. This has been a long and busy day. [page break]

I spent a busy day at the Temple until about 4:00 P.M. Sealed 25 Couples, I think, and some children. I took Mother, Oliver, Charles & Edna in my Franklin down to Saratoga Springs on Utah lake where the Taylor-Richards Motor Co. employees and their families were having an outing We returned to Salt Lake at 8:30 P.M. and walked nine blocks about the principal business streets witnessing the Fall opening window display, the first of the kind I have ever witnessed.
16 September 1926 • Thursday
I was in the temple before 8 A.M. Attended to my duties as usual except while I was in regular weekly meeting of the Presidency & Twelve from 10: A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
17 September 1926 • Friday
Left home at 6:30 A.M. with George, Charles & Spencer for Roosevelt 156 miles East, in Georges car. We arrived in Roosevelt at about 12:30 They attended to some business and returned. I remained there to attend conference Sat. & Sun. at Roosevelt. I stayed at Pres. Byron O. Colton’s home. Attended a meeting of the Presidency in the evening. The boys returned to Strawberry Reservoir in the afternoon to fish and returned home next day.

We had a busy day of two Reg. Con meetings. I spoke at both. At close of the afternoon meeting I left for home with Bro Hill and in he car also, were Sister After Young and Dr. Barnay. We arrived home soon after 10: P.M.
20 September 1926 • Monday
I spent a part of the day at the temple. I took mother & Lucina Georgina down to the Nerva’s to dinner and later brought them home. In the evening Mother and I went to the Paramount and took our two boys, Oliver & Ray.
21 September 1926 • Tuesday
Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I assisted in setting apart and instructing a company of 43 missionaries.
22 September 1926 • Wednesday
I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Sealed 12 or 13 couples, living and 7 children.
23 September 1926 • Thursday
Cooler weather.
Attended to the sealing, to my temple meeting, and the weekly council meeting. I took my son George with me and went to the Hospital and administered to my brother Calvin W. Richards. His condition seemed to me to be better than it was a week ago. [page break]
I spent the evening at home.
24 September 1926 • Friday
Cold weather.
I went to the temple as usual. I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I came to the Temple at 8: A.M. and left for home about 9:00 P.M.
25 September 1926 • Saturday
Cold morning.
I took 8:35 A.M. train to Delta where I arrived at 1:00 P.M. I was met by Bp. Lyman and taken to his home where I stayed overnight. I attended 2: P.M. meeting and at 4:00 P.M. attended a meeting of the Stake Presidency of two hours duration. Attended an entertainment in the evening. Convention Program.

Weather moderated.
I spoke at the forenoon and the afternoon meetings of the Conference. At the latter I spoke on the Subject of marriage. During the conference I set apt. a High Councilman and the Bishopric of the Oase’s ward.
I took 3:30 train for home arriving in Salt Lake about 7:45 P.M. A number of my family folks came in to see us in the evening.
27 September 1926 • Monday
I spent some time in the Temple. Took Mother down to Ninas, in Sugar House, and later went and had supper there and she & I went to a show with Rain & Nina. [page break]
28 September 1926 • Tuesday
Attended Temple Ordinance committee meeting from 8: A.M. to 9:20 and the Quarterly meeting of the Twelve from 9:30 to about 6:00 P.M. Spent the evening at home.
29 September 1926 • Wednesday
I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual.
In the evening Sister Richards & I accompanied Pres. & Sis. Grant and Elder Reed Smoot going through the Temple. I was endowed for Jesse Root Grant and Sister R. for Hannah Simpson his wife, Parents of Pres. U. S. Grant. Pres. Grant went through for Pres. U. S. Grant and Sister Grant for his wife. Elder Smoot was endowed for Pres. Roosevelt, his dead wife having been endowed for. These three couples were sealed, I performed the Ceremony. Reed Smoot and Sister Grant stood for Pres. Roosevelt & wife and Pres. Grant & wife for the other couples. After this work, in a heavy rain storm I took Estella Lee home in Sugar House, Alice & her sister Maria accompanied.
In the evening Stephen L. Richards’ 14 yr. old son Joseph was run down by a street car. His legs were so badly smashed or crushed as to necessitate amputation. The boy died about 1: A.M.
30 September 1926 • Thursday
I attended temple meeting and weekly meeting of the Presidency & Twelve, attended to the Sealing of the living couples. I visited Stephen L. Richards’ family who [page break] have occasion for great sorrow. Called at the L.D.S. Hospital and administered to Calvin W Richards. Mother & I went to the home of Jos. F. Smith in the evening where we had a splendid supper and a pleasant evening with others of the General Authorities & wives.
