I took 7:20 A.M. car for the Temple. Presided at 8:30 Temple meeting.

Attended weekly Council meeting [page break] of the Presidency & Twelve. At this meeting I received an appointment to visit the Bureau of Information as a mission during the month of October. [26 words redacted relating to a temple ordinance] Attended to the regular sealings of the living. In the evening I took Alice, my daughter Nerva and Aunt Minnie for a ride down to Sugar House. We called and saw Mamie & family.

2 October 1925 • Friday

I went to the Temple as usual. Attended a meeting of the Twelve and Mission Presidents from 9:30 to 5:00 and attended to the sealing of eight couples living & a number of children. In the evening I sealed up 56 couples of the Wood-Robinson dead.

3 October 1925 • Saturday

I took Charles & Edna to the Fair. Bought a B. Liminator for my radio set at a cost of $27.50 Spent the evening at home retiring early.

4 October 1925 • Sunday

Attended the Conference meetings in the Tabernacle and was one of the speakers in the afternoon meeting. I occupied 15 min. with good freedom, thanks be to the Lord.

5 October 1925 • Monday

I attended the Conference meetings in the Tabernacle including the General Priesthood meeting in the evening at which these were in attendance by [page break] count some others 2735.

Pres. & Sister Callis & Pres. S. O. Bennion took dinner with us.

6 October 1925 • Tuesday

Attended conference meetings forenoon and afternoon. Spent the evening at home.

7 October 1925 • Wednesday

I attended special Priesthood meeting and by permission occupied 10 min. on Temple work. I sealed 25 couples living and a number of children to parents. Attended my prayer circle meeting and a reception by the First Presidency, tendered General Authorities, Stake Presidents, Bishops, Mission presidents &c and wives in the Bps. Building in the evening. I wrote to Oliver.

8 October 1925 • Thursday

Attended to my Temple work as usual, attended weekly Council meeting from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. I took my car and took Annie & Estella home, mother with me. We called at Mamie’s in Sugar House. Alice & I attended a banquet tendered the General Authorities & their wives on the roof gardens of Hotel Utah, tendered by Pres. C. W. Nibley & wife at 7:00 P.M.

9 October 1925 • Friday

I took 8:35 A.M. train for Milford arriving there at 2:40 P.M. Claude Cornwall accompanying me. We were met by Pres. Gunn of Beaver Stake and driven to Beaver in a Willy Knight car. I stayed at his home. In the evening I met with the Stake Presidency [page break] and gave them instructions and an outline of divisions of responsibility for the Stake Presidency, the H. Council & Bishops. Suggested special work for the H Priests & the Seventies.

Am well.

I spoke at both forenoon and afternoon meetings of the Conference. In the forenoon meetings of the Conference. In the forenoon I spoke upon the topic “Opportunities of Ward members in Cooperating with Auxiliary Work. In the afternoon I spoke upon Genealogy & Temple work. In the evening I attended a pageant featuring the Auxiliary Associations & their work.

11 October 1925 • Sunday

Beaver.

Stormy and cold.

I took cold.

I spoke at the afternoon meeting & at a meeting of the Presidency, the H. Council & Bishops at 4:20 P.M. and in Milford in the evening. I talked of the Accomplishments of Jos. Smith which attest the divinity of his calling and of his successors. I spoke of the sorrows of neglect at Milford. While in Beaver I ordained two Bishops, nine counselors and four H. Counselors and sealed upon [first and last names redacted] his former blessings, by authorization and Pres. H. J. Grant. We got train for home soon after eleven o’clock.

12 October 1925 • Monday

I took my car and with me, Chas. Rega, Mother & Lucena & went to Ogden While Charles called on Mr. Browning [page break] the others of us called upon Rega’s aunt, Sister Jacobs. We did some business after returning to the City. I spent the evening at home.

13 October 1925 • Tuesday

I went to the Temple as usual in the morning. I had much desk work to do. Assisted in setting apart a large Company of missionaries. I set apart seven of them. Left the Temple at about 8:00 P.M. Attended a meeting of the U.I.V. Co. directors & took Mother down to Nervas & later went and got her with my car.

14 October 1925 • Wednesday

I presided as usual at the Temple meeting in the morning. I sealed 21 couples and 25 children in 2nd Company. Attended Circle meeting and later in the evening I sealed seven couples of dead and 45 families of 240 children. These are the Wood-Robinson line. A number of the family were present as proxies and witnesses.

15 October 1925 • Thursday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual and attended weekly Council meeting from 10:00 A.M. to about 12:30 P.M. I spent the evening at a reception at Pres. Ivins’ home tendered to Elders Ballard & Wells who are soon to leave for So. America to open up a mission there.

16 October 1925 • Friday

I attended to my duties as usual at the Temple until [page break] 1:40 P.M. where I left for Malad on 2:20 train. Arrived at 6:30. Went to the Hotel and got supper and while eating Pres. & Sister Sweater of Holbrook called for me and I went with them in a Touring Ford 25 miles to Holbrook when I stayed all night at the home of my Nephew Willard Smith. It was a cold night and froze a thick coat of ice on the water in the roads.

17 October 1925 • Saturday

Holbrook, Idaho.

Cold day.

I had an attack of indigestion last night and it remains with me to-day. We drove from Holbrook 16 miles to Snowville where the [illegible] Stake Conference was held. The population of the stake is 1242. The attendance at the morning meeting was 92 or 8%. The President spoke for about three minutes and we then turned the meeting into a testimony meeting and 22 people spoke. At the afternoon meeting I occupied about 60 min. after which the people were given on invitation to bear testimony and nine others spoke. These were a variation from the regular procedure but they were interesting & profitable meetings.

Men were called upon during the conference to pray to open & close who rarely ever are asked to do anything of the kind.

I spent the night at the home of Joseph J. Larkin. I suffered from indigestion.

18 October 1925 • Sunday

Snowville, Utah.

Pleasant day.

I still suffer from indigestion.

I spoke at both forenoon and evening meetings of Conference. Set apart [page break] Bp. Arden of Arden ward and three High Counselors. In my talks I stressed Genealogical & Temple work and Unity & love in the Church, the ward & the Home. Two persons and our relationship to them. &c &c.

After the afternoon meeting My Nephew Willard R. Smith with his wife Melissa & his son Bryan drove me in an open car to Colliston via of Fielding where I had a brief visit with my Sister Alice. I got U.P. train at Collister at 8:30 P.M. and reached Salt Lake at 11:00 P.M. I took a strong cathartic before retiring to bed, which helped me.

19 October 1925 • Monday

Home.

Fine weather.

I am feeling better.

I went to the Temple as usual when I spent a busy day at my desk. I spent the evening at home.

20 October 1925 • Tuesday

I went to the Temple as usual in the morning, and attended to my meeting, sealing, correspondence &c. I met with my Sons Geo. F., LeGrand & Joel and we decided to go into together and form a company for the Sale of the Crysler cars. Decided to organize with a capital of $25000. I to be the President, George the Secretary, Joel at a salary of $230 per mo. to be Mgr & Treasurer & we four and Mother to be the directors. We have secured the building formerly occupied by Nailer on 4th South between Main & West Temple.

21 October 1925 • Wednesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I sealed [page break] eleven living couples and nine children and a family of mixed. I made two trips to Sugar House with Mother. Took Edna down to Mamie’s and brought her and Lucena back later. Attended my circle meeting &c. Later Mother, Geo. & Edith & I went to the American.

22 October 1925 • Thursday

I went to the Temple in the early morning as usual. Attended regular weekly Council Meeting in the Temple from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. Attended to the living sealings. Towards evening Sister Richards and I visited Sister Dollie Russell and Sister Dougal. The latter was away from home. Both met with serious accidents. We had a busy evening at the Temple.

23 October 1925 • Friday

I went to the Temple in the early morning as usual. Later I took some parcels down to Walter B. Wilson’s two to go to Oliver and one to Sarah by some missionaries from the Wilsons home, 948 Lincoln St. I left my car at home and by St. car went down town to the Temple and from there went to the D. & R.G. depot and took 4:30 P.M. train for Price. Conference of Emery Stake to be held in Cleveland tomorrow & Sunday.

Received a letter from Elder Talmage and answered same. I advanced $20.00 to the Genealogical Society of Utah and started them on a search for the Shackleton names the maiden name of my Gt. Grand mother. [page break]

I arrived in Price on schedule time 9:30 P.M. and put up at the “Savoy.”

24 October 1925 • Saturday

Price.

Am having some stomach trouble and ate but little.

This day Ina, LeGrand’s wife gave birth to a baby stillborn.

A Bro Larson of Cleveland, a merchant, met me with a Ford coup at Price and drove me 18 or 20 miles to Cleveland where Emery Stake Conference is to be held. I spoke at forenoon & afternoon meetings & treated the subjects of Nations testimony of God & of the Resurrection. The Church & the Gospel i.e. Mormonism bear record of Jos. Smith & his associates and his successors. The necessity for love & unity among us and what is conducive to love & unity and what is discord & division.

I met with the Stake Presidency after the Conference meeting in the afternoon and presented to them a number of suggestions including a system of division of responsibility work for the High Priests & Seventies by which their quorum may function. &c.

I spent the night at sister Jane Lister’s home, a widow who has living with her a married daughter & her husband, a brother Allred.

25 October 1925 • Sunday

Cleveland. Utah.

My stomach is not quite right so I ate no breakfast [page break] nor dinner.

I spoke at the forenoon meeting upon the subject of “Qualifications and responsibilities resting upon us in our effort to obtain eternal life,” Faith & works &c.

At the afternoon I occupied about 70 min. on the subject of Genealogical & Temple work for the living & for the dead.

Pres. Oveson took me to Price where I got train for home and arrived in Salt Lake at 9:30 P.M. I was met at the Depot by Orin in his car and mother accompanying. We called in Edna’s and visited for a while. I had no knowledge of Ina’s illness or confinement until after I arrived in town.

26 October 1925 • Monday

Home.

I attended to some work at the Temple. Called at the Richards Motor Co. place of business on 4th South between Main & 1st west West Temple, this being our opening day. I had some keys fitted to my car doors &c. Attended to other outside business. In the evening Mother & I called on Aunt Minnie Eckle whose husband died this morning. We called on Geo L. & Nerva & took supper with them and took them with us in our car & we went down to LeGrand’s & saw Ina and Ruby. The former was brought from the Hospital to-day & the latter arrived from her home in Cornish this evening. Mother & I took Sister Ashton, [page break] Ina’s mother, home from LeGrand’s.

27 October 1925 • Tuesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Assisted in Setting apart and instructing a company of missionaries. I set apart five of them.

Pres. Grant & wife went through with the first company for Colonel Alexander Gilchrist Haws & wife who have been dead about 14 years. I sealed them after they had been endowed for. Pres. & Sis Grant stood for them in the sealing. We, Mother & I put in about 12 hours in the Temple, leaving after the evening sessions got started. I wrote to Prests. Benson & Callis.

28 October 1925 • Wednesday

I went to the Temple as usual in the morning where I attended to my usual work & duties. From 10 A.M. to about 2:30 P.M. I was in meeting with the Presidency & the Twelve. I visited the Bureau of Information having been appointed to visit that mission. I have an appointment with Pres. Levi E. Young & assistants for 9:15 tomorrow.

I set apart Bro. & Sister Carrol as temple workers. Alice & I called on Aunt Minne Eckel in the evening. We also called and got Lucena and took her down to Edna’s and spent about an hour with them.

30 October 1925 • Friday

I went to the Temple as usual in the morning. Met with the Presidency of the Temple Block Mission by appointment and considered with them matters pertaining to that mission. In the [page break] afternoon I took Mother & Lucena down to Sugar House, calling on Mamie & at Nina’s New home, she being there at work, and we called at Inas & got Ruby and took her with us and rode out to Hyland Park Cemetery. I returned home and thence to Taylor Richards Motor Co. where I met my three oldest sons in directors meeting of the Richards Motor Co. From there I went to the Temple and spent a couple of three hours until the last company was under way, Large Companies to-night.

31 October 1925 • Saturday

I made some calls on way to the Temple in the morning. Attended to some business during the day outside the Temple and attended to some desk work at the Temple.
