1 March 1927 • Tuesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual; assisted in setting apart a company of missionaries. Mother & I went to a show.

2 March 1927 • Wednesday

Am well.

Mother & I spent the forenoon at the Temple. We went home at noon and I left on the U.P. Ry Train at 12:45 P.M for Butte and thence on to Wolf Point, Montana where I was to meet Pres. John G. Allred of the North Central States mission. Mother and Ray went to the depot with me. Edna, Estella, & Nina & children came to the depot to see me off. On the train I read and studied and at Pocatello I took a 50¢ supper at the Station lunch counter.

3 March 1927 • Thursday

Arrived at Butte at 5 A.M. Took street car and went to Great Northern Ry Station and got 7:15 A.M. train for Gt. Falls. Arrived in Gr. Falls at 1:20 P.M. Got 10:00 P.M. train for Havre. Sat up in day coach. Arrived at Havre at 1:50 A.M. Took a bed at the Grand Hotel, across the street from the Depot.

4 March 1927 • Friday

I got 7:25 A.M. Stub train out of Havre and arrived at Wolf Point at 2:35 P.M. I was met by an Elder [blank] who took me in his car to the Indian branch Meeting house several miles [page break] distant where meeting was in session, Pres J. E. Allred, speaking. I followed and occupied 60 minutes an Indian Bro. Davis, interpreted for me, After the dismissal of the meeting we heard several of the Indians make a plea before the members present about 50 in all, for the re establishment of the church school. We canvassed the congregation and found that [there] are 17 children in the colony of school age, 13 of whom are over 8 yrs of age and 7 of these have not been baptized. I advised them to make thorough canvass and make representation to Pres. Allred. that they will with local help do all for the School except furnish the teachers or teachers and he will furnish them an answer. There are two Elders living in the meeting house vestry room, Elders [blank] These Elders and Pres Allred & I went to Wolf Point and held meeting in an assembly room of the Hotel. About 22 were present. Bro Allred & I were the speaker. They were very attentive. We four Elders stayed the night at the Hotel.

5 March 1927 • Saturday

I, in some unknown way broke the bridge to my eye glasses but fortunately was able to have the bridge repaired at a jewelry Store, by a Mr Smith

Pres. Allred and I got train at 10:20 (Stiell train) and arrived at Haslem at 3:35 P.M. We went to the New England Hotel where we remained until after 7: P.M. where we were taken by Auto [page break] four miles to the Branch Meeting House where a meeting was held at 8 P.M. No Elders (missionaries) laboring here. We met at the Depot three local brethren, Jensen, Murray & Egbret. Harlem Branch, Johnson President. Here the people have a good from all purpose meeting house. About 80 or 100 in attendance. Pres Allred occupied about 15 min. and I 57 minutes. After meeting Bro Murray took us back to town about 4 miles and we stayed at the New England Hotel.

6 March 1927 • Sunday

Harlem, Mont. Bro. [blank] Munsey came out from home and took Pres. Allred and me to the Branch meeting about 80 to 100 in attendance. Pres. Allred occupied 15 min and I 63 minutes. After meeting Darrow Lott took us about 20 miles to Church in Wilford Coman’s car where we attended 2: P.M. meeting. Attendance 148 pres. Allred occupied 15 min and I 60 Min We took dinner at the home of Bro & Sister Cheeney. At the evening meeting Pres Allred and I were the speakers. He occupied 36 Min and I occupied 60 Min. Bro & Sister Wilford Cannon invited Pres. Allred & me to their home after the evening meeting with others of their friends and others we were entertained while waiting for a 1:10 A.M. train.

7 March 1927 • Monday

Pres. John G. Allred and I took train at Chinook, Mont. at 1:10 A.M. and arrived in Billings at 4:40 P.M. and put up at the Lincoln Hotel. Two Elders, Miller & Hendersen are laboring here. They report 62 baptisms in 14 months. We attended [page break] evening meeting in a Lodge Hall with an attendance of 124, many non members. Two missionaries occupied about 10 min., Pres Allred about 20 minutes and I about 60 minutes.

8 March 1927 • Tuesday

I wrote to my wife, wrote up my journal &c. Did some studying &c Pres. Allred and the two missionaries & I took train for Bridger, forty five miles from Billings on the Ry. running down to the Big Horn Stake. We took supper with a Mr. & Mrs. Teasdale. She is thoroughly converted & he is favorable. As the meeting held in the Methodist chapel at 7:30 there were about 100 in attendance We four missionaries spoke. I occupied 50 min. with good liberty. Pres. Allred, the two missionaries & I went to Belfry after the meeting. Pres. Allred and I stayed at the home of a Bro. & Sis. Yost the husband non member but is favorable.

9 March 1927 • Wednesday

Belfry, Montana.

Am well.

This is the 45th anniversary of my wedding day. I wrote to my wife.

Attended a public meeting in an upstairs room over a store. Attendance 76. Four of us Elders Spoke. I occupied 50 min. with good liberty. Meeting was held at 2: P.M. and at about 5:00 P.M. we left in Ford auto with Branch President Bro. Rigby for Billings. We had one puncture and made the trip of 60 miles in about two hours. Pres. Allred and I stayed over night at the Lincoln Hotel. [page break]

10 March 1927 • Thursday

Pres. Allred and I left Billings on the 5:30 A.M. Northern Pacific Ry. train for Minniapolis. No event occurred during the day worthy of mention.

11 March 1927 • Friday

We arrived in Minneapolis at 7:10 A.M. Our trip was pleasant.

Here I had my suit pressed, while I had a bath.

We went by auto to Dalbo Minn. about 68 miles where we held meeting and dedicated a chapel which had been bought by the Church. I offered the prayer of dedication, and spok[e] for about 50 min.

We got home about 2:30 A.M. Bad Roads.

12 March 1927 • Saturday

Minneapolis, Minn.

Stormy day.

I attended a missionary meeting from 1:00 P.M. until 5:30. About 35 present I spoke for about 40 min.

At 8:00 P.M. attended general meeting and occupied about 60 min. Rec’d letter from home & ans’d.

13 March 1927 • Sunday

Minneapolis.

Raining

At the 10:00 A.M. meeting I occupied about 45.00 minutes.

The afternoon and evening meeting were held in St. Paul, about 10 miles. distant from here. I spoke at each meeting occupying about 50 min. We returned by Auto to Minneapolis.

14 March 1927 • Monday

Minneapolis.

Am well.

Pres. Allred and I left for Duluth on [page break] on G.N. train at 9:35 A.M. Arrived at 2:25 P.M. Attended Missionary meeting at 4:30 P.M. and public services at 8:00 P.M. I occupied about an hour with exceptional liberty. We stayed at Holland Hotel.

15 March 1927 • Tuesday

Duluth.

Am well

Fine weather.

Pres. Allred and I left for Grand Forks at 8:35 A.M. Arrived at 7:10 P.M. Attended public services at 8:00 P.M. I occupied 50 min. Meeting held in Court House. We stayed at the Hotel Dacota. We are now in North Dacota State.

16 March 1927 • Wednesday

N. Dacota, Grand Forks.

I am well.

Weather fine.

There are [blank] missionaries here.

Attended missionary meeting at 11:00 A.M. Pres. Allred and I left for Winnipeg, Canada at 5:52 P.M. Arrived at 11:30 P.M. Stayed at the Fort Garry Hotel.

17 March 1927 • Thursday

Winnipeg.

Cold day

Am well.

Pres. Allred & I met the missionaries at the Photographers and had our pictures taken with them, thence to the meeting house and held meeting of about three hours duration. There were nine missionaries there. The Conference Pres. Elder Merkly and two short tenured missionaries were released. Pres Allred & I with two other Elders took dinner with a Brother Fritelat & family.

At the evening session there were present 104. Very cold windy night. I occupied 65 minutes with excellent freedom. [page break]

Winnipeg.

Am well.

Cold day.

Pres. Allred and I took 7:00 A.M. train for Minneapolis, arriving at 9:30 P.M. We were met by a Bro. Christensen and wife and Elder Raymond Nelson with auto. Stayed at mission Home.

19 March 1927 • Saturday

Minneapolis

Am well.

Crisp clear morning.

I took C.N.W. Ry. train at 9:35 for Omaha. I met Elder Carter of Park Valley who has just been released at Duluth, Minn. Where I met him a few days ago. He boarded the train at St. Paul and detrained about 80 miles south to visit friends. He is to be married next Wed. in Salt Lake Temple. Arrived at Omaha at 10:15 P.M. Took sleeper which I occupied until I reached home.

On board train all day between Omaha and Salt Lake.

21 March 1927 • Monday

Arrived home from my visit to the North Central States at 8:30 A.M. I left home Mar 2nd Attended thirteen Conferences or meetings in that many different towns or places. Had an enjoyable visit and was much blessed of the Lord.

Mother and Oliver met me at the Station and Mother & I went in my car and saw the different families of our sons & daughters. We accompanied Clarence & Mamie to a show in the evening. Our folks are all well. Weather pleasant. [page break]

22 March 1927 • Tuesday

I attended to my duties at the temple as usual. Spent about 10 hours in the Temple. I had an interview with the First Presidency.

In the evening Mother and I called on some of our family members.

23 March 1927 • Wednesday

Mother & I spent the day in the Temple from 7:55 A.M. to 10:30 P.M. I sealed a couple and a family of six children after the last company got through.

24 March 1927 • Thursday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Attended weekly Council meeting from 10 A.M. until noon.

25 March 1927 • Friday

Mother and I came to the Temple before 8: A.M. and after 8: P.M. we left for the University ward where we attended a Pictorial or living statuary & reading of the Bible History. We returned to the Temple where we were occupied until 11 P.M.

26 March 1927 • Saturday

I spent part of the day at the Temple working at my desk.

About 4:00 P.M. Mother and I accompanied my son George his wife and two children, Franklin & Robert and we started for Tooele to do some trading for them. I drove the car. George’s 50 Chrysler from near State St. to Erda and at Erda the car skidded in the loose gravel and tipped over. Mother had her back [page break] quite badly hurt, and had a bruise on her cheek bone near her ear. We returned in the Car but it was damaged to the extent of about $25.00

27 March 1927 • Sunday

I remained home all day as Mother was confined to her bed with a lame back. In the evening I went to the 33d ward and was the speaker upon the Subject by appointment, of Genealogy & Temple work. I occupied 50 min good liberty. My son George accompanied me.

28 March 1927 • Monday

I attended to som[e] desk work at the Temple. Went to Sugar House and got Nina, called & got Nerva & brought to our home to stay with Alice in my absence during the day. I also went down & got Estella.

The weather is beautiful. <Mother better>

29 March 1927 • Tuesday

Mother improving

Attended Temple meeting at 8:30 A.M. and at 9:30 went into meeting with the members of the Council of Twelve Quarterly meeting, which continued until about 4:00 P.M. I left the Temple about 6:00 P.M. Spent the evening at home with my wife who is getting up but still has a lame back.

30 March 1927 • Wednesday

Mother improving.

I was in the Temple before 8:00 A.M. as I usually am. Attended to my duties as usual. Spent the evening at home with Sister Richards

31 March 1927 • Thursday

Mother improving but still confined to the home.

I went to the Temple as usual.

Attended morning meeting 8:30 and the Weekly Council meeting from 10:00 A.M. to about 2:30 P.M. I went home about 4:30 and took Nina home from our house, Mother Edna & Estella rode down there & back. After Supper I returned to the Temple. Set apart Wm A Prahl.
