The month comes in like a lamb. A beautiful day.

Mother went to the Temple & I remained home and worked at my table, attending to correspondence &c.

I wrote Payne & Greenhalgh of Ariz. I mailed $30.00 check to J. A. Woods, Co. Treasurer of Graham Co., Ariz.

I also wrote to Marion D. Maloy of Ashurst. I mailed a proposal to him Feb. 5th to give him free use of my Ashurst land and water one year, he to plant, to cotton at least 25 acres of cotton and to use the water only on my land. Mailed checks in payment of bills &c.

2 March 1923 • Friday

At home all day convalescing. Read from “The House of the Lord.” Wrote letter of condolence to Pres. Rulon S. Wells & Family, Sister Wells having died this morning.

I sent in my subscriptions [page break] to the Literary Digest for one year, Price $4.00 including new Atlas of the World.

3 March 1923 • Saturday

Home.

Stormy Day.

I am gaining but still have cough and cold. I have been dressed and about the house each day since Tuesday last. To-day, I received a Daffodil plant and a nice bouquet of fresh sweet peas from Brother Nauman. His card bore these words: “It makes us all happy to know that President Richards is up again.”

A day or two ago I received two small jars of preserves from Sister F. Y. Taylor. a gift.

Yesterday and to-day I have enjoyed reading from “The House of the Lord.” We received letters to-day from Edna & Nerva. I wrote both of them in answer.

4 March 1923 • Sunday

I haven’t been out of the house since my illness. To-day I have been busy all day studying gospel subjects and arranging my Pocket Commentary for convenient use. I feel that I am getting better of my cold & cough though I am not feeling all right yet.

5 March 1923 • Monday

I worked at my Commentary [page break] until nearly 4 P.M. when I went down to the Dr. office and Doctors Gill & Ralph Richards gave me an examination and advised me as to my diet &c. I called at the temple for a few moments. In the evening I wrote to my sister Alice and to my daughter Ruby.

6 March 1923 • Tuesday

Weather still cold.

I went to my work in the Temple taking the 8:20 A.M. car. It is three weeks to-day since I left the temple with severe cold and cough. I am glad to be back and hope to be able to carry on now. I attended to important business with the Presiding Bishopric. Spent some time at the President’s office and attended to important correspondence &c. Left the temple for home at 5:30 P.M.

7 March 1923 • Wednesday

I took 7:50 car for the Temple. I presided and spoke at the Temple Meeting. Attended a H.J.G. & Co. Special meeting at the President’s office at 9:30.

I attended to the living sealings, 11 in the 2nd Company and 25 in the 3rd Co. 43 children. I arranged with the Presidency for Bro. Alfred Peterson to take the place formerly occupied by Bro Ramseyer at the same pay and excuse him from sealing work. Also that Bro Horace Cummings be blessed and set apart to perform [page break] sealings. I went with Bro Cummings after I had talked with him, to the President’s office where he was blessed by President Grant for this particular work of sealing and to assist in any work or ordinances when needed by those in authority in the Temple. Attended my prayer circle in the evening. Called on Georgina & Joel after meeting and saw their new born baby boy.

8 March 1923 • Thursday

I presided as usual at the 8:30 Temple meeting.

Attended weekly council meeting in the Temple from 10 A.M. to about 4 P.M. except while at luncheon and while I was doing some sealing.

I went home from the temple about 8 P.M. and with my son George administered to his wife Edith, and to Josephine and Franklin, all having sore throats.

9 March 1923 • Friday

Presided at Temple meeting as usual and attended a special council meeting in the Temple from 11 to 4:30 considering Seventies work and organization. Attended to [page break] other Temple duties.

This is the 41st anniversary of our marriage.

10 March 1923 • Saturday

I spent the forenoon at home making out my Income Tax Report for 1922. Had it acknowledged and mailed it to the Collector.

I criticised a paper prepared for the Reliefsociety Magazine on Women who Preside in the temples.

Did some work at my desk in the Temple in the afternoon. Left for home at 7 P.M.

11 March 1923 • Sunday

I called on my son George in the forenoon, he being ill with fever, sore throat, chills, aching of the body &c and in bed since last night. Joel & I administered to him. Mother & I visited Sister Wm. W. Kent and saw brother Kent’s corpse. Attended the funeral services at 2 P.M. in 27th ward. I was one of the speakers and occupied about 25 minutes. I also furnished flowers. After the services I returned home feeling that I had overdone a little. A cold wind blowing. My son George is the only one of our family whose health gives us concern tonight. There is much illness and there are many deaths [page break] these days. A sort of epidemic is going about.

12 March 1923 • Monday

I called on my son George and found him improved over what he was the day before. Took 8:20 car for the Temple. Presided at the special 9 A.M. Temple meeting. 128 of the Lesser Priesthood from Alpine Stake with 9 Bishops as chaperones were in attendance.

I set apart Arnold D. Miller and his wife Mary Jane Laub Miller as temple workers, assisted by Brother Albert W. Davis I tore up and had burned the ordinance books, sheets &c from the Salt Lake, Logan and Manti Temples, all of which have been replaced by loose leaf books and the most recent changes and rulings. I left the Temple for home at about 6 P.M. After supper Mother & I went up to our son George’s home where he is confined to his bed with a sort of Flu.

13 March 1923 • Tuesday

My son George is improving. I am feeling better but am not normally well. I went to the temple as usual where I attended to correspondence &c. Returned from the Temple about 3 P.M. and spent a couple of hours with [page break] my son George in his illness.

14 March 1923 • Wednesday

I presided at the 8:30 A.M. Temple meeting as usual.

Attended to the sealings of the living as usual, attended my Circle meeting in the evening.

15 March 1923 • Thursday

Attended Temple meeting at 8:30 and Regular Council meeting at 10: to 2: P.M. Was busy in the temple until about 8 P.M.

16 March 1923 • Friday

I am still having some trouble cough & weakness. My son George is out again. My grandsons, Richard Card & Orin Woodbury are ill.

I presided at the Temple meeting at 8:30 as usual.

I sent to the First Presidency a letter signed by the Temple Presidency asking for certain improvements to be made to the Temple Annex. Attended to my regular duties at the temple. Left for home about 8:30 P.M.

17 March 1923 • Saturday

I spent most of the forenoon at home and then went to the temple and worked at my desk &c. until about 5:00 P.M. I have not entirely [page break] got rid of my cold and cough.

18 March 1923 • Sunday

This is a cold day and as I am not entirely well and have no appointment, I remained home and doctored myself.

Most of the members of my family living in the City called upon me during the day. I wrote letters to Geo. L. & Nerva, to Jack & Ruby and to Charles & Edna.

19 March 1923 • Monday

I spoke at special temple meeting, 154 boys & girls having come up from Utah Stake to be baptized for the dead. Worked at my desk and consulted with the brethren on revision of a part of our working force. I left the Temple about 5:00 P.M. Spent the evening at home.

20 March 1923 • Tuesday

Rain & snow.

I went to the Temple as usual. Answered correspondence and did other desk and office work. Spent some time coaching Uncle A. D. Miller & wife [4 words redacted relating to a temple ceremony]. Left the Temple at about 6 P.M. for home where I spent the evening reading.

21 March 1923 • Wednesday

By my invitation, Bro. J. A. Widtsoe was Speaker at the Temple meeting. I sealed 50 couples and more than 100 children. [page break]

Attended my circle meeting at 6:30 to 7:30. Left the temple for home about 8:30 P.M.

22 March 1923 • Thursday

I attended Temple meeting 8:30 and Weekly Council Meeting from 10 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. and Sealed seven couples and 87 children besides other current work. I remained at my desk until after the evening company of 300+ got through Alice and I rode home with George & Edith.

23 March 1923 • Friday

Alice and I went to the Temple as usual. We usually take the 7:50 A.M. car.

Attended to the Temple meeting and the living sealings and Sealings for the dead &c.

I sealed 49 couples & 43 children.

24 March 1923 • Saturday

I went to the Temple as usual and attended to important business pertaining to the Temple. Through Bro Gibbs, I sought an interview with the Presidency but was denied, for the present. The Presiding Bishopric have a weekly appointment with the Presidency. I am thinking seriously of suggesting in our council meeting that the Twelve have a regular appointment or appointed time [page break] each week at which they may have the ears of the Presidency to present such matters as they may desire to receive their consideration &c. This being my Sister Alice Ann’s birth day anniversary, I wrote her a letter.

I wrote to the Valley Park Bank of Safford about a $2500. note of mine which they hold.

Alice and I went to the Pantages theater in the evening the first show of any kind I have attended for a long time.

25 March 1923 • Sunday

I attended 9 A.M. priesthood meeting and Sunday School in the 27th ward. Offered the benediction in the Tabernacle meeting, Bro. Ballard was the speaker. In the evening I attended 27th ward Sacrament meeting. Prof. Jensen Supt. of State School or Public Instruction was the speaker.

26 March 1923 • Monday

I went to the Temple as usual. Attended to several matters of business of importance to our temple work with Bros. Davis, Taylor, Christensen, Alston, Wilson & others separately. With Jos. Fielding Smith and Jos. Christensen I had an interview with the Presidency in regard to certain improvements we proposed to have made to the Annex to the Temple. It resulted in an appointment [page break] for the Presidency to meet us at the Annex Thu. next at 10 A.M. to look over the premises, plans &c. I was otherwise busy at my desk attending to Temple business.

27 March 1923 • Tuesday

I was in meeting of the Twelve in the Temple from 9:30 to 6:10 P.M. In the evening I attended a boy scout banquet of the Boy Scouts of the Ensign Stake and their dads in the 20th ward amusement hall with my son Ray on his invitation.

28 March 1923 • Wednesday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual during the day and in the evening Alice and I were with the other members of our council and their wives at the home of Melvin J. Ballard.

29 March 1923 • Thursday

Warm day. Attended to my duties at the Temple. Met the Presidency at the Annex, the P. Bishopric and architects Hansen & Young being present and we looked over the grounds and through the Temple approaches with a view to deciding what improvements are necessary to be made. President Grant told me I could go ahead and make a woman’s dressing [page break] room on the west of the Temple under ground to correspond with that on the men’s side. This I appreciate very much. I suppose an opening through the foundation will have to be made with hammers & drills. Attended Council meeting from 10:30 to 3:30 o’clock. I sealed seven or eight couples at lunch hour.

30 March 1923 • Friday

Beautiful warm day.

I attended to my duties at the Temple, as usual. Left for home about 8:00 P.M.

31 March 1923 • Saturday

Beautiful day.

I went to the Temple in the morning and attended to business requiring my attention and worked at my desk until about 4:00 P.M.
