21 September 1922 • Thursday

I went to the temple as usual enjoying good health. Attended Council meeting and sealed 23 couples and 60 children to parents besides regular correspondence answering questions &c. I left the temple about 7 P.M. after the night session had begun, a full house and many turned away.

I think of recommending the having of another night session each week and of calling into the service other workers for the evening work. I fully expect that we will soon be having three evening sessions of endowment work as we are now administering endowments three days a week & that we will be doing evening baptismal work. I hope the spirit of the work will continue to increase among the people so that there will be the demand for evening work five days of the week, three for endowments, and two for baptisms. Surely there is no more important work than the redemption of the dead. Other work can be carried on over there but the ordinances must be attended to here. I wonder how far the work over there is being impeded by our neglect here. May not those who accept the gospel there need the Priest[page break]hood and other ordinances so as to engage in the work of preaching. The gospel is to be preached to the teeming millions who have lived on the earth. The preaching is to be done by only those who have been members of the Church here, will be an everlasting work, but if those who become converted over there and have the work done for them here may engage in the work the force of workers will be constantly increased as we carry on the temple work.

Thoughts on an Important Subject

The Prophet Joseph Smith said: “The greatest responsibility in this world that God has laid upon us is to seek after our dead.”

Compendium p. 284.

Why?

Because it is the only work that may not be done on the other side and it is absolutely necessary for man’s salvation.

May it not be possible, since a man must be called of God by prophecy and the laying on of hands to preach the gospel, that hundreds of thousands of men on the other side have been converted and before engaging in the work there of preaching the Gospel, are waiting to be endowed with authority?

In the evening, I took Alice & Lucena to the ward carnival show.
