A man with a load of wheat came along and picked me up. I got to Fillmore Church in time to make a 25 minute’s talk as provided by regular program. In the afternoon I occupied about 60 min on Ward Teaching and how get an efficient ministry & what Deacons, Teachers, Priests & Elders can do when appointed. They should be privileged to thus magnify the priesthood and office they hold.

At 4:20 attended a special H. Council meeting where all present spoke briefly reporting their condition and the example they are setting.

At home.

I have a deep-seated cold and cough. Went to the Temple however where I spent the day at my desk and went home, sick, at night.

14 February 1923 • Wednesday

I was up a part of the day and the other part was in bed receiving treatment for my cold.

15 February 1923 • Thursday

About the same as yesterday. However, at midnight I was seized with a severe pain in what I thought to be my stomach and opposite in my back, but it was on the right side of the Sternum and front of the spinal column. I suffered excruciating pain for about seven or eight hours. I obtained some relief about 7:30 A.M. through prayer and hot pack applications. The hot pack treatment was repeated from time to time as the occasion seemed to demand.

Mustard & lard poultices & plasters were used until my body was blistered.

23 February 1923 • Friday

This is the 62nd anniversary of my birth. I had an attack of stomach trouble and sent for Dr. Gill Richards. I obtained some relief after having drunk four full glasses of warm soda water as fast as I could and then by putting my finger in my throat got to vomit a little. After this I had but liquid foods, hot water &c for several days.

I received a number of birth day presents including many beautiful flowers. The people at the Temple honored me by having endowments for one hundred, seventy five (175) of our kindred. Many phone inquiries were made as to my health &c. Letters from absent members of the family came to hand today for my comfort.

24 February 1923 • Saturday

Confined to my bed but for the most part comfortable but very weak. I am following the physicians directions in food and treatment.

25 February 1923 • Sunday

I am trying to endure myself and my condition and make the best of it.

One of these nights on [page break] or near my birthday I dreamed a dream in which the number 52 appeared and for some reason I had to divide it so that the result was 26 yr’s. Just what meaning, if it had any, I do not know, but I was left to wonder if it meant that I would live yet 26 years. That would bring my age to 88 yrs. Whether it meant that the world would come to an end in 26 or 52 years I do not know but it seemed to be a part of the dream.

26 February 1923 • Monday

I am beginning to be more like my normal self with normal temperature.

27 February 1923 • Tuesday

By permission of the Physician I dressed myself and sat up for several hours, read the papers, wrote letters and wrote up my journal from memory from the 13th inst. until the present.

My temperature is normal and I am otherwise feeling pretty well except when a coughing spell comes on and they are becoming less frequent. Others are usually well. The weather since the first of the month has been almost continuous wintry weather. A few bright sun shine days. [page break]

28 February 1923 • Wednesday

Beautiful day. This is my second day up and Mother left home for the Temple at 10:30. I was up when she left and I remained at home alone. My correspondence and other work having accumulated, I have much to do. Bro. & Sis. R. R. Lyman called in to see me.
