Loa.

Am well.

Attended and took part in the meetings of this day.

Addressed the afternoon meeting and recited “Get Somebody else”.

In the evening I went to Freemont Ward and spoke. Subject, two powers: choose ye this day whom ye will serve.

2 August 1920 • Monday

Returned home, Brother Geo. W. Okerlund of the Stake Pres. took me and others over to Loa from Sigard and brought us back in his Franklin car. We had a good and successful conference and convention.

3 August 1920 • Tuesday

I went out to Tooele in the morning by train and Mother and I returned with my son George in the evening.

My daughter Nerva gave birth to a baby boy Saturday July 31st which was the occasion of our being out there. [page break]

4 August 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

All well.

I spent the day at my office working on B. of M. contents &c. Some committee work with others. Retired early

5 August 1920 • Thursday

Attended weekly Council meeting from 10 A.M. to about 3 P.M. Did office work thereafter.

6 August 1920 • Friday

I spent the day at my office as usual. I set apart Sister Sadie Hulet of Snowflake a missionary to N W. States.

In evening I polished the floors. went to a show with Mother George & Ruby and for a ride after.

7 August 1920 • Saturday

I have the appointment to Juab Stake this week, only one day’s conference. I spent the forenoon at my office and in afternoon went to Nephi. Stayed at Pres. Reese’s home over night.

8 August 1920 • Sunday

Nephi.

Hot day.

I rode over to Lavan, 8 miles, with Pres Reese in Auto. Spoke at both forenoon and afternoon meeting and returned to Nephi and spoke at evening meeting. I sat [page break] in waiting room until 4:45 A.M. waiting for train which was belated by floods.

9 August 1920 • Monday

Rained.

Arrived home at 8:30 A.M. from Nephi; I spent the forenoon at home and the afternoon at my office. Went to Saltair with my folks in the evening. About 40 of the folks were present including Estella Lees’ family from Tooele and Annie Steed & family.

10 August 1920 • Tuesday

I worked at my office as usual. Attended committee meeting with Pres. Clawson and the presidencies of Salt Lake City Stakes from 10 to 1 o’clock.

11 August 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

All well. Cooler weather

I worked at my office until 4 P.M. Attended R Class Board meeting and with my wife accepted the invitation of Stephen L. Richards to go to his canyon home at Mt Air and take supper and spend the evening. The Presidency & Twelve & their wives were invited. We had a pleasant time.

Arrived home at 11:20 P.M. A young brother Jacobsen drove the car we were in & Pres & Sister Penrose were in same car. [page break]

12 August 1920 • Thursday

Home.

All well.

Attended weekly Council meeting from 10 A.M. to about 3 P.M.

Attended to office work and about 5:30 went up Emigration Canyon with Joel and others in his car. Nina and Mamie are up there.

I took 11:30 P.M. train for the Big Horn Stake.

13 August 1920 • Friday

Arrived in Butte at 5:00 P.M. and got 10:30 P.M. train out for Billings.

While in Butte I attended a picture show.

14 August 1920 • Saturday

I arrived in Lovell, Wyo. soon after noon. Had a good gospel conversation with a Mr. J. P. Ellerton, a bee man on this train with whom I sat for about 2 hrs on the train.

I spoke at the afternoon convention, conference meeting for abt, 30 min with good liberty.

Attended the evening social, 481 at meeting, 325 at social. Bro Jolley took me and other visitors out to see the town and factories. I went to Cowley after going to the Social and stayed with him over night.

15 August 1920 • Sunday

Lovell, Wyo.

I attended all the meetings of Groupe Convention and at the 2:30 meeting I occupied about [page break] 50 minutes with good liberty.

We got train and left Lovell at 5 P.M. for home. In the party were brothers, Dr. John H. Taylor, John W Walker and Sisters Hyde, Connelly and Ericksen. They preceded me to the Big Horn.

16 August 1920 • Monday

We arrived in Butte at 7:15 A.M. and missed the O. & G. train 15 minutes consequently had to wait in Butte until 6 P.M. I went to the Public Library and read from Graysons “Adventures in Experiences.[”] We also saw the pictures of “The Shepherd of the Hills.[”]

17 August 1920 • Tuesday

Arrived from Big Horn at 10:10 A.M. Went home, took a bath, wrote up journal &c before going to my office.

Mother and Edna are both complaining of summer complaint. I visited Sister Nellie Richards Webber.

18 August 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

Mother and Edna are feeling better.

I spent about six hours in committee of B. of M.

Spent the evening at home.

19 August 1920 • Thursday

Home.

Cooler at night.

Mother and Edna about well again. Clarence is ill [page break] with cold on his lungs.

I attended weekly Council meeting in temple from 10 A.M. to about 2 P.M.

At 3 P.M. I attended the funeral services of Colonel Thomas G. Webber who died Sunday 15th 84 yrs of age. The services were held at the home.

No preaching. Pres. C. W. Penrose offered the Opening prayr and Pres. A. H. Lund the Benediction.

I by request of the family offered the prayr of dedication at the grave. I visited the family Tuesday on my return from Wyoming and again this morning.

My son George and family & Mother, Ray & I went up to our home in Emigration Canyon. We went up in 47 minutes in Ford.

Returned home about 11 P.M. Nina & Lucena and their children who have been staying up there for several days came down in Orin’s car.

20 August 1920 • Friday

Home.

All well. Cooler weather.

I spent the day at home reading, writing, visiting &c.

In the evening, Mother and I went out with LeGrand and George & their wives riding

21 August 1920 • Saturday

I went to Spanish Fork and [page break] attended Nebo Stake conference. Spoke at both meetings and after meeting, assisted by the Stake presidency, set apart three Bishoprics. Returned home

22 August 1920 • Sunday

Home.

Accompanied by Pres. B. H. Roberts I went to Spanish Fork and attended Nebo Conference. I spoke at the morning meeting. Returned, reaching S.L. at 8 P.M. My sons George and LeGrand and their wives came in to see us.

23 August 1920 • Monday

Home— All well.

I administered to Sister Nola Larson and spent the rest of the day at my office Had a number of callers. In the evening I went down to my daughter Mamie’s home in Sugar House and took supper, other members of the family being present. Clarence brought us home and took us for a ride.

24 August 1920 • Tuesday

Home.

All well.

Warm night last.

I attended a Book of Mormon Committee meeting and worked at my office all day.

Mother & I rode out with George & family in the evening. [page break]

25 August 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

I attended meetings of the R. Class Gen. Board and my Circle.

Worked in my office correcting foot note references to B of M. In the evening I attended a meeting in the Tabernacle where Democratic Candidate for Vice President of the U.S. Roosevelt was the prinicipal speaker.1

26 August 1920 • Thursday

I attended weekly Council meeting in the temple from 10 A.M. until about 2 P.M. including luncheon which is usually served about 1 P.M. on such occasions.

I worked at my office as usual and attended the Roosevelt plolitical meeting in the tabernacle.

In writing up my journal for several days past I made the mistake of recording the last item under date of the 25th.

27 August 1920 • Friday

I worked at my office all day and went out to Salt air in the evening and took supper with some of my folks who had preceded me out there.

Returned and took 11:30 train for Rigby, Idaho. [page break]

28 August 1920 • Saturday

Arrived in Rigby, Idaho, at 11:15 A.M. on belated train.

Bp John Wells accompanied me. We were met at Ry station by a Bro. Call and taken in auto to the Stake Tabernacle where the Rigby Stake Conference was in session. Elder Wells & I both spoke. We made the home of Pres. Josiah Call our staying place.

At the afternoon meeting I also spoke occupying 40 min with good liberty. Text Moses 1:39.

29 August 1920 • Sunday

Rigby.

Cool weather.

No frost.

Attended and spoke at 10 A.M., and 2 P.M. conference meeting, also at a meeting of Bishops & Counselors. Assisted in setting apart some officers.

We left Rexburg for home on 6:34 train which was late.

30 August 1920 • Monday

Arrived home from Rigby at 7 A.M. All well.

At my office, I set apart Johannes Vreeken and Gerrit Von De Waard missionaries to the Netherlands. I also ordained Ephraim White an High Priest and a Bishop and set him apart to preside over the Willard Ward in the Box Elder Stake Bro Ivins and Bro. Stahl assisted me. Bro. Ivins set apart Ulysses C. Taylor Second Counselor. [page break] In the afternoon Mother, Ray and I accompanied my son Joel and family in his car to Tooele and return. We called at Saltair. Arrived home at 12:30 o’clock.

31 August 1920 • Tuesday

Home.

LeGrands’ daughter Norine went to the hospital today and had her tonsils and adnoids removed.

I spent the day at my office as usual. I set apart three missionaries and instructed the company of missionaries.
