I spent some time at the Temple and attended to odd jobs outside.

2 September 1928 • Sunday

I spoke 40 min at the funeral Services of Sister Max Popp in Miller Ward meeting house, 33d So. bet. Main & State Sts. Mother, Jack & Ruby, Spencer & Estella <& Edna> & I took dinner at Ninas breaking the fast at about 4:15 P.M. Visited with our folks from Cornish, Tremonton & Ogden.

3 September 1928 • Monday

Attended to my duties at the Temple in forenoon and in [page break] the after noon played a game of golf with George & Edith,

4 September 1928 • Tuesday

Labor Day.

Spent, the day partly at home & partly in Temple.

5 September 1928 • Wednesday

I spent the day at the Temple Had many sealings. I sealed about 25 Couples living, I was the speaker at the Temple meeting and was much blessed of the Lord.

I spoke of the common judges by whom they had passed. The big thing in life to every man & woman is Salvation. When we go to the other side to enter we must pass by the angels & the Gods & they will know our worthiness. Keys will be given you to-day by which to enter the kingdom Do not lose any of them. Viz. Worthiness, a wife, washings & anointings, a garment of the Holy Priesthood, [6 words redacted relating to a temple ceremony] Re ferred to Matt. 22:11–13. The man who appeared at the wedding without a wedding garment. He was Speechless & was cast out, banned. Will yours be a garment of the Priesthood. I referred to Peter while the Savior washed the feet of the Disciples. If I wash not your feet you shall have no place with me in the Kingdom. &c.

My Sciatica is giving me much pain.

I attended my prayer circle meeting in the evening and was administered to by the Brethren for my healing of Sciatica.

6 September 1928 • Thursday

I attended the Temple meeting at 8:30 Met with the Brethren of the Twelve in the Temple at 9:15 and with the [page break] regular council at 10: A.M. After the council meeting I met again with the Twelve to consider matters that had been left in the hands of the Twelve by the Presidency. I attended to the Sealing of seven Couples while the brethren were at luncheon. I attended to some correspondence &c. I met mother & daughter Nerva down town, took Nina & Thelma to Nerva’s home. Mother & I went on to Ninas & from there home where we spent the evening-

I have been better of my sciatica to-day.

7 September 1928 • Friday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual in the morning.

In the afternoon George & Edith, mother & I went to Ogden and attended the funeral Services of Jessie S. Richards son of C. C. Richards, held in the Tabernacle. Attended a directors meeting of Richards Motor Co in the evening. We decided to offer Edna $125.00 per Mo. to do office work for her us. I phoned her that evening but she did not accept. I invited her for Mother & me, to move him with us without charge. She did not feel to accept.

8 September 1928 • Saturday

I spent some time at the Temple, attended to several items of business outside and spent part of the afternoon and evening at home nursing my Sciatica. I phoned Bp John D. Hooper of Hooper ward accepting his repeated and [page break] pressing invitation to visit the ward and speak to the people. I arranged to go up there for tomorrow Sunday evening.

9 September 1928 • Sunday

I attended 27th ward Sun. School and later with Mother, George & Edith went in George’s car to Ogden & visited with Edna & then went on to Hooper, took supper with Bp. J. D. Hooper & family and attended & spoke at their evening meeting, 319 present or about 30% of the Ward population. My Son George & I were the Speakers. I had great liberty and occupied about 40 min.

My sciatica was very bad before I reached home and after.

10 September 1928 • Monday

Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual, where we spent most of the day. I went home early, however, and took a hot bath & retired with a hot water bottle to my hip & leg, my sciatica being bad.

11 September 1928 • Tuesday

I spent part of the day at the Temple, had my car washed and polished, attended to some odd jobs outside the Temple. Made appointment with Fred Michelson of Liberty Stake Presidency to examine the boundary lines between 3d & Liberty wards with a view of changing the boundary so as to give to the 3d ward a part of what is now the Liberty ward, at 5:30 P.M. and I filled that appointment and made a written report to the Twelve which was later approved by the Weekly Council [page break]

12 September 1928 • Wednesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple. I had help with the sealings. There were about 40 or more couples sealed, living.

Attended my circle meeting at 6:30 P.M. Mother & I went from the Temple to the Victory Show at 8:40 P.M.

13 September 1928 • Thursday

Attended Temple meeting at 8:30 to 9: A.M. Met with the Twelve from 9:05 to 10: P.M. Met with the Council of the Presidency & Twelve from 10: to 12: After luncheon, met with the Twelve again for an hour or so.

Worked at my desk and had a busy day. I reported to the Presidency on two matters they had submitted to me &c. I remained at the Temple in the evening and attended to sealing work after both companies.

14 September 1928 • Friday

Mother and I went to the temple in the early morning as usual. After spending a busy day at the Temple we went down to the Daynes Beebe Music Store and saw the Painting, The Man of Sorrows.” Thence by invitation of the Pantages Theater management we went and saw the play “The Dead Man.”

15 September 1928 • Sunday

I took the day at home until the middle of the afternoon except that Geo & I played a game of Golf. I took mother in the car; and visited the different branches of the family. We took H & Sarah & children for a ride. [page break]

16 September 1928 • Sunday

I took my auto and went to Ogden, taking with me, Mother, Hugh & Sarah. Mother went with me to the N. Weber Stake Conference held in the Tabernacle and Hugh & Sarah attended a M.I.A. Convention of three stakes held in the Academy building. On our return we four attended the Ensign ward meeting where Hugh had an appointment to speak. I occupied a few minutes when he had finished. At the conference I spoke at both meetings. At the forenoon meeting I advised that we do not follow the fashions of Babylon in religious matters, Ex.: Faith only needed. We must continue to work out our salvation as we have been taught. Do as well as you know and you will be saved. Knowing what you should & should not do if you do not those things required you will be under condemnation. At the afternoon session I read the character of the Three witness and commented upon their testimony & what it means also the Eight witnesses. Read from Apostate Conditions & commented on same and the Restoration.

17 September 1928 • Monday

Mother and I went to the Temple as usual in the morning. I took her down to Ninas in the afternoon. Estella & Spencer came down from Tremonton. We went to the Victory Theater in the evening.

18 September 1928 • Tuesday

Mother went home to Tremonton with [page break] Spencer & Estella leaving about 8:30 A.M. I left at the same time for the Temple where I remained until after noon working at my desk &c. This is baptismal day, Tuesdays & Saturdays. After 5: P.M. I played a game of golf with my sons LeGrand & Ray. I heard Albert Smith the Dem. Nominee for President making his campaign opening speech in Omaha from 8: to 9: P.M. A district radio hitch up.

19 September 1928 • Wednesday

I spent a busy day at the Temple. I did the speaking at the Temple meeting & had good satisfaction. I sealed about 25 living Couples and a number of Children to parents. Attended to correspondence &c. Attended circle meeting.

20 September 1928 • Thursday

I am better of my lameness. I met with the Twelve from 8: A.M. to 10: and with the Council of the Presidency & Twelve from 10: to 1: P.M. and continued with the Twelve until after 5: P.M.

21 September 1928 • Friday

I attended to my work at the Temple as usual.

22 September 1928 • Saturday

I spent the day at the Temple until about noon. I played a game of golf with my sons Geo & Ray & with Edith towards evening. [page break]

23 September 1928 • Sunday

I filled my appointment by attending the Salt Lake Stake Conference meetings. The forenoon and evenings meetings were held in the Assembly Hall and the afternoon meeting in the Tabernacle. I spoke in the morning meeting. Attended & spoke at the funeral Services of Charles E. Shill held in the 19th Wd. House at 12:30 I listened to J. E. Talmages’ radio address at 9:15 P.M. to 9:40 P.M.

24 September 1928 • Monday

Mother & I went to the Temple in the early morning as usual where we had a busy day.

25 September 1928 • Tuesday

I spent part of the day at the temple while baptisms were going on. Assisted in setting apart a large company of missionaries. I set apart six missionaries.

Towards evening I played a game of golf with my Son Ray. He, Mother, & I took supper at Nerva’s where Mother had been visiting all the afternoon.

26 September 1928 • Wednesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Attended my circle meeting in the evening.

27 September 1928 • Thursday

Am better of my sciatic lameness, though not well. Attended 8:30 Temple meeting and weekly Council meeting and after lunch met with the Twelve until nearly 4 P.M. Left the Temple at 6:30 P.M.

28 September 1928 • Friday

Mother & I went to the Temple in the early morning as usual. After the Temple meeting Elder J. F. Smith, H. Gardiner & I went down to the Daynes Beebe Music Store and selected an organ for the Annex assembly room.

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual during the day. In the early evening Mother & I went to the Gem Theater on complimentary invitation and witnessed the “King of Kings.” I think such a play might with propriety be exhibited on the Sabbath day.

We returned to the Temple where I sealed two couples after the last company.

29 September 1928 • Saturday

I spent the forenoon home studying. In the afternoon I took mother and we called on our daughters, Nerva, Mamie & Nina. At 6: P.M. Geo. & Edith and Mother & I left for Ogden where I attended the Priesthood meeting of the Mt. Ogden Stake held in the 9th ward chapel 271 or 15% of the Priesthood being present. I occupied about 35 minutes with good liberty. I was a good meeting. After the meeting we returned to Salt Lake.

30 September 1928 • Sunday

I took my Franklin car and was accompanied by Mother, Sarah & Hugh we went to Ogden where Hugh & I attended the meetings of the Mt. Ogden Stake [page break] We both spoke in the morning meeting and I spoke in the afternoon meeting in the Tabernacle. Mother & Sarah visited with our daughter Edna. Returning home mother & I took supper with Sarah & family. We called at LeGrands but he & Ina were absent from home. Later they called upon us.
