It will be a great advertising medium & the eyes of [p. 51] men will be turned this way & money be proffered. The dam will be built annuo & better permanent. The sympathy of the state officials will be extended. The Governor & legislators have expressed a desire to do Some thing for this people, having the desire they will find a way. The County & state will without doubt rebuild the bridges. You will have a greater St Johns a greater Northern Arizona. Five or ten dollars per acre will rebuild the dam, the project then will be a valuable one & lands & water yet reasonable in price. The faces of this people are not turned away from St Johns &c. &c. Smith’s where we administered to brother & Sister Smith’s afflicted baby Lulu and engaged in council over stake matters. Gave advice to the Stake Presidency to supervise the ordaining of Elders and not trust it to the Presidency of Elders quorums as they are usually inexperienced and it is important that the ordaining be done right. Recommended that such ordaining be done at the priesthood meeting where they are sustained to be ordained. I advised that the Stake Presidency if possible visit each ward every quarter and that each bishop and High Counselor be furnished with an extract or transcript of the ward reports and be requested to use them. The 20th blow broke the boulder. Paul sowed, Appolis watered but God gave the increase &c. “We should be anxiously engaged in a good cause &c. Sunday 10:00 A.M. meeting I was one of the speakers and occupied about 40 min. Subject Gist of my conversations on train coming down here. You people should look for opportunity to speak for the Lord & his work, to teach the gospel. Every time you find your habits different from your friends the out sider it will afford an opportunity to explain why & thus be preaching the gospel. Example is the most potent means of preaching. At afternoon meeting I also was one of the speakers and occupied about 30 min., Subject Tithing, America a land of promise yet some of the greatest wars ever fought were fought on this land. It is to be a land of peace & plenty on condition of faithfulness on part of the people. Loyalty to the Nation & Loyalty to the King [p. 65] of Kings & Kingdom of God. &c.

Attended 8:00 P.M. meeting under the auspecies of the Reliefsocieties & Primaries and by request spoke. The Lord respects the young as well as the old or middle age, the girls as well as the boys. Related my experience in administering to my mother when 17 yrs of age as an example. The boys & girls are entitled to the Spirit of the Lord to guide them in all their religious work if they live for it and that is all the Prophets have & it is by this means that the children of Israel were led out of bondage & the church is organized & the Gospel restored &c & the Kingdom built up. I urged the young people to use the strength of their young man & woman hood the cause of the Lord. Wired J. E. Robinson. We leave Tues. Morn. Between meetings we went out and saw the canals &c. I spoke & read from D&C & B. of Mormon the future of the Lamanites & how some became white in earlier times. All are sons & daughters of God & my brothers & sisters. We should try to be like our Heavenly father. The glory of God is intelligence. You can not help having black skins but you can help being ignorant. You should learn from the whiteman all that can be learned that is good without adopting their evil practices, see what intelligent men have accomplished In engineering the Roosevelt Dam & reservoir & farming under it. The Autos you see us ride in, Other lives ex. Ry. Steam Ships, Airoplanes, Telephone, phonograph, telegraph, [p. 67] wireless &c &c. Send your boys & girls to school & let them get education & intelligence. You beautify your homes & make them attractive so your young people will come back to you & stay with you after being educated. Be gallant to the women. Build good homes & let the women stay in & beautify & care for them & learn to keep their hair & clothing like these white sisters. You young men get education & then be a blessing to the race as Booker Washington has been to the Negro race. You regard your parents & progenitors, magnify them, & bring them up to a higher standard of civilization & religious development. Teach your children the gospel, to pray, be honest &c. Though your skins be dark your hearts should be white, you are responsible for the heart whether black or white. I had good liberty.
