Am better of Cold.
Fine weather.
I made a trip down town and attended to some business, made small purchases.
In my Son LeGrand’s last letter of Sept. 4th from Holland he said the First Presidency had send a man over there who takes first place among the Elders and that they may have had in view making him president of the mission, and that he would make a good president. I inquired here of brother Kooyman and learned that his name is Butterworth and that he left here July last and filled a good mission in the Netherlands four [p. 170] years ago. I brought these facts to the attention of Pres. F. M. Lyman who said he would bring it to the attention of the Presidency.
I mailed bank pass book to my daughter Nerva with letter to Tooele and Lucena’s pass book I enclosed with letter to my wife who is staying with Lucena in Logan. I also handed to my son Joel his pass book.

Met Pres. Lyman, Elder McKay & two Hatch brethren at Pres. Lyman’s office between meetings.
At afternoon meeting I presided at the Assembly Hall which was crowded, a number standing in the door ways. I was the concluding speaker of five & occupied about 30 minutes. [p. 171] I read from 1st & Second chapters of 1 Cor. and spoke of the little things in our religion which do not appear to men of worldly ambition & greatness but which go to make great men in the eyes of the Lord & which go to make the Church great & prosper Zion. Sermon taken verbatim.
Elder D. O. McKay presided at the out door meeting.
Pres. Lyman reported to me that he presented the matter of LeGrands release which he indorsed and that Pres. Smith made some notes of it and will probably act in the matter.

Pres. Heber J. Hale of Boise Stake told me today that he had received a letter from Solomon Hale his father now in Los Angeles with whom I labored last April saying that my talk appealed to him as no other talk had done and that he had quit his bad habits and was appreciative of my labors. Pres. Jos. E. Robinson of California mission brought me word from Brother Hale that he is as clean as a pin thus far. When I talked with brother Sol. Hale, I asked him if he was keeping the W of Wisdom. He acknowledged he was not. I look up a labor with him & he came back to me later the same day or the next and said my talk had considerably disturbed him and he wanted to talk further. He finally said if I thought he could and should keep the W. of Wisdom that he would try & do so. I told him he was not in complete [p. 173] harmony with the General authorities & never could be until he observed that law, that I thought with the Lord’s help he could quit and that he ought to do so. He said he would try & asked a blessing especially for that purpose & Pres. Robinson & I layed hands on him & I pronounced the blessing. It is gratifying to note the fruits of my labors. May the Lord be praised.

I attended morning and afternoon sessions of a Religion Class convention of seven stakes held in the Granite Stake House and occu[p. 176]pied fifteen minutes in the afternoon session. Subject. Stony path of R.C. workers, Do the Stones speak & tell a story. Let’s see: The stone by the stone mason is not discarded because it does not seem to fit in to the structure. So bishops, parents & others should view RC work if they can not see it at first. We will prove its necessity. Which of the 20 blows broke the Stone? No more the last than the first. The last could not have done it alone. We as R Class workers are striking a blow with parents, schools & other church organizations towards the perfecting of boys & girls. God has no nobler work. We may not see the fruits of our labors but like bread cast upon the waters it will after many days return. We will have interest in the perfected product the boy and girl’s salvation.
We had a nice lunch served in individual boxes between the meetings.
