Cold weather.

I spent most of the day at home. We had Nerva & Geo. L. & their children to dinner and later the grandchildren & most of the parents came and we had a program, played games and served ice cream & cakes.

2 January 1927 • Sunday

All well.

Snow & cold.

I attended the 27th ward fast meeting; and was a speaker at the funeral services of Jos. C. Lyon and made brief remarks. I was the speaker over the Radio in the evening. A busy day, but enjoyable with all.

3 January 1927 • Monday

I was in the Temple before 8:00 A.M. where I spent most of the day. Attended to some important work within and without the Temple. In the evening I took Mother, Geo & Edith to the Pantages.

4 January 1927 • Tuesday

Home

Weather moderated.

All well.

I spent about 12 hour in the Temple. To-day as the beginning of the year we inaugurated a new system of Roll call and changes in the wash rooms.

5 January 1927 • Wednesday

I attended to my work at the Temple as usual. Sealed several couples living and twenty odd couples of dead. I took Mother & [page break] her sisters Anna & Estella to the Wilks Matinee and took them home after. Mother & I called at the homes of our daughters Nina & Mamie. We spent the evening at home.

Later: the latter part of the above under Wednesday was on thursday, written from memory. I made a mistake.

6 January 1927 • Thursday

Had a busy day at the temple until about 2:30 when the above occurred.

7 January 1927 • Friday

I attended to my duties at the temple as usual except that Mother & I went down to Nina’s for a while in the afternoon. We returned to the Temple for the evening work.

8 January 1927 • Saturday

I spent most all day in the Temple at my desk, and the evening at home. All are well.

9 January 1927 • Sunday

At home.

All well

Moderated weather.

I spent the forenoon at home reading and writing. Wrote to my daughter Sarah in Switzerland. I heard Andrew Jensons Tabernacle talk by radio also a talk by Prof H. M. Woodward of BYU on the “Worlds Greater Need.” I also heard Stephen L. Richards’ radio address in the evening. Subject “the Home.” Attended 27th Ward meeting and heard my son Oliver & Bro Christensen talks [page break]

10 January 1927 • Monday

Home.

All well.

I was with the Council of Twelve in Quarterly meeting in the Temple from 9:30 to 5:15 P.M. except that at noon adjournment I attended funeral service for my cousin Anna Richards Young, daughter of Henry P. Richards. In the evening Mother & I, Oliver & Marie Ray & Miss Andersen went to the Wilks. The M. Men of Ensign Stake [illegible]

11 January 1927 • Tuesday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual where we had a busy day. We have fixed up a room with curtains making three partitions to the room in the Men’s wash room as a trial or experiment and used it this morning for the first time.

I sealed 25 couples of dead & three couples living.

12 January 1927 • Wednesday

Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual, where we spent a busy day.

13 January 1927 • Thursday

Attended weekly Council meeting and attended to my other Temple duties. In the evening I took mother & Lucena to the American. Oliver had the mutual workers at our home & refreshment were served in the evening.

14 January 1927 • Friday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Pres. Grant had a conversation with me at temple. Pres David K Udall who is to preside over the Arizona temple spent some time with me. [page break]

15 January 1927 • Saturday

I left on D. & R.G. train 8:15 A.M. for Redmond where I attended North Sevier Stake Conference. Priesthood being emphasized. Attended and spoke at afternoon & evening meetings. Stayed at Pres. Jos. F Petersons’

16 January 1927 • Sunday

Redmond, Utah.

Am Well.

Fine weather.

Attended three public meetings and spoke at each, occupying about 40 min. Attended to business between. I set apart three Presidents of 107th Quo of Seventy. A busy but enjoyable day.

17 January 1927 • Monday

I left Redmond in auto with Earl Wright at 10: A.M. and arrived in Salt Lake at 3:30 P.M. Dinner at Provo. Found all pretty well.

Mother & I took Nina & baby home to Sugar House, they having been visiting with mother during the day.

18 January 1927 • Tuesday

We went to the Temple as usual in the early morning, where we spent a busy day leaving the temple after 6: P.M. Later we went to the Paramount.

19 January 1927 • Wednesday

Mother & I were in the Temple before 8: A.M. as we aim to be each morning, four days each week. We had big companies & a busy day. We went out for a while in the afternoon and visited Temple workers who are ill, viz.: Sister Phoebe Peart, Bell Sears, Harvee H Cummings & John P. Robinson. We remained in temple until after the last session was finished. Had a late marriage. Attended Circle meeting. [page break]

20–21 January 1927 • Thursday–Friday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. I was in council Meeting with the Presidency & Twelve from 10: A.M. to about 4: P.M. In the evening <Friday> mother had a phone call from Edna and we went down there and I left her with Edna where I took leave to go to Moore, Ida.,

22 January 1927 • Saturday

Arrived in Moore, Idaho at 11:10 A.M. A Bro. Black met me at the train and took me to the meeting house where the people had gathered for Conference but had not begun meeting. The brethren & Sisters met for opening exercises and then separated for program work. The Priesthood program was carried out including a talk from myself. A lunch was served at the meeting house at in the afternoon meeting I addressed the meeting before the separation and again at conclusion of the Priesthood program.

I was assigned to stay at the home of Sister Judith Hannah Babcock. Here I met Mr. Roe C. Bird who is staying with Sister Babcock & teaching School in Moore. I had a lengthy conversation with him on gospel themes and I believe he was favorably impressed. He came from Dalas, Texas, his home town last month. The cold wave is felt here with the Thermometer at 30° below zero last night and this morning. Frozen up autos prevented a number of people from coming to meeting, according to reports.

23 January 1927 • Sunday

Am well.

Weather very cold. I had a comfortable nights’ sleep & rest.

I attended and spoke at three public meetings. [page break] Subjects treated: Thy will be done, word of wisdom, tithing &c; History repeats itself & marriage. I ordained & Set apart a number of officers. I took supper at a Bro. Waddoups, Stake clerk. Both days I lunched with the people at the meeting house.

24 January 1927 • Monday

I took train at Moore at 11:10 A.M. And went up to Mackay & back to Blackfoot and home. Arrived in Salt Lake @ 11:50 P.M.

25 January 1927 • Tuesday

I went to the Temple as usual. Pres. Grant called me over to his office and the First Presidency then decided several important points pertaining to the Temple ordinances making a finish of the work which has been under consideration of a committee of five of the Twelve for several years. These points to-day decided will be reported to the council for their approval next Thursday.

I assisted in setting apart a company of missionaries, and presided over the meeting. Mother & I called on W. B. Richards, it being his 80th Birth day We took my Sister Nerva home via Sugar House.

26 January 1927 • Wednesday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. In the afternoon Mother & I went down to Nerva’s where Nerva, Lucena, & Mamie were visiting and spent a little time with them. We later went down to Edna’s & temple, Mother to Edna & 3 to the Temple. Attended Circle meeting. Attended the [Anunson?] in evening Thu.

27 January 1927 • Thursday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual except that I attended regular weekly Council meeting from 10: A.M. to about 4: P.M. Mother & I went to a show in the evening.

At the Council meeting the last of the Committee’s recommendations concerning the endowment ceremonies was approved. It now remains to have them written for all the Temples.

28 January 1927 • Friday

Mother & I spent between eleven and twelve hours in the Temple without going outside.

I received appointment this evening to attend Oquirrh Stake Conference tomorrow and next day. Wells ward at night.

29 January 1927 • Saturday

I took my car and went to Pleasant Green, Oquirrh Stake, to attend Conference at 2: P.M. I was one of the Speakers and occupied about 40 minutes. Subject: Priesthood & offices & Church ministry.

I returned to Salt Lake after meeting.

30 January 1927 • Sunday

I returned to Pleasant Green and Spoke at forenoon & afternoon meetings and returned to the City and spoke at Burton ward in the evening. I called at LeGrands home and at Mamies and later LeGrand & Ina called on us & stayed until nearly mid night. [page break]

31 January 1927 • Monday

I went to the Temple before 8: A.M. as usual. Attended to correspondence & other desk work. Mother & I accompanied Geo. & Edith & LeGrand & Ina to the Paramount as guests of Geo.
