I spent the forenoon at home and in the afternoon Mother & I went to the Play House & saw “Skidding”. My brother E F R died to-day.

2 February 1930 • Sunday

Thawing weather.

I attended 27th ward Sunday School and Fast Meeting and spent the remainder of the day and evening at home. Oliver & Mari[e] & Joel & Georgina call on us in the evening.

3 February 1930 • Monday

Mild weather.

Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual. I went to Sugar House and got our daughter Nina and took her to the train, for Los Angeles 11: A.M.

4 February 1920 • Tuesday

I attended a meeting of the Twelve, the Seventy & Bishopric in the Temple from 8:30 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. I attended the funeral services and burial of my brother Ezra F. Richards and offered the dedicatory prayer at the grave. I took my car & took flowers. I took Israel Call & my Sister Nerva & her daughter Marcia.

I took Mother and some of our Grand Children to the Temple to a 6:15 P.M. appointment for baptisms of the dead.

5 February 1930 • Wednesday

I was in meeting with the Twelve and First Council of Seventy in the Temple from 8:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Attended to correspondence and other desk work. I signed my Will & had George & Joel sign as witnesses, giving all to my wife.

6 February 1930 • Thursday

Attended to my duties at the Temple including attendance at the 9:00 A.M. Temple meeting, the meeting of the Twelve and the regular council meeting at 10:00 A.M. Mother & I went through with the last session and I did some sealings after.

7 February 1930 • Friday

Mother and I went to the Temple as usual where we had a busy day. I sealed 29 Couples of dead for the Robinson family.

I left the Temple after 8: P.M. and with my Son George went to the wrestling match on complimentary tickets.

8 February 1930 • Saturday

Having no appointment for this week-end I spent the forenoon at home. In the afternoon I took Mother to Sugar House & got Ninas Wallace & Maryland and brought them to our home their parents being in California

I spent two or three hours at my desk in the Temple. Took Mother to the oculists. &c

9 February 1930 • Sunday

I had no appointment for this week-end, and had planned to go to Tooele to attend the funeral services of Ephraim Gowans and about 15 min. before I would have started a phone call came from our daughter Ruby from Logan saying that her husband, Jack Alvin Hanson died suddenly at about 10:00 A.M. to-day. [page break] We immediately changed our plans and went to Logan. I took my car and with me, Mother, George & Edith; Joel took his car and Georgina, Nerva & Geo. L. Tate; Oliver took his car and Georgina, Hugh & Sarah; Clarence took his car and Mamie, Lucena & Rega. We found Ruby all broken up with sorrow & despair. A number of friends had come in to help and Comfort her. The body had been taken to the Lindquist Mortuary Co. Parlor. Mother, Nerva, Mamie and I stayed through the night.

10 February 1930 • Monday

Logan, Cache Co.

A beautiful Day.

I took Mother Ruby & Nerva to the Mortuary where we selected a fine metal casket for $225.00 which included funeral expenses except clothing and taking the body to Salt Lake for the latter $25.00 is added. We went to my niece Alta Palmer’s to dinner. I left Logan for Salt Lake at 2:40 P.M. Mamie & her little boy Roy with me. We were 2 hrs 30 min from Ruby’s to Main & So Temple without incident. I called at the offices of the Continental Life Ins. Co. and informed them of Jack’s demise. After taking Mamie to her home in Sugar House I went to the Temple and spent a couple of hours, before going home.

11 February 1930 • Tuesday

I spent most of the day at the Temple and attended to some business outside. Had car laundered &c. [page break]

12 February 1930 • Wednesday

I attended Temple meeting, and then left for Logan in my car and with me, my Sister Nerva. We arrived in Logan about 12:30 Noon. Found Ruby as well as could be expected. The body, dressed and in the casket was in their home. Many people from Logan & Cornish called during the day. I attended to some business for Ruby and rendered such comfort and assistance as I was able during the day & evening & slept at Ruby’s.

13 February 1930 • Thursday

Logan.

We left Logan at 9:00 A.M. with Jacks body in the Lindquist hearse and a number of cars in procession for Brigham where a very impressive service was held at 11:00 A.M. in 4th ward. After the service we drove to Salt Lake about 12 or 13 Auto Loads and the body was buried on my lot in the City Cemetery. A place next to him is reserved on the north of Jack’s grave for Ruby when it shall be needed.

Ruby stood the ordeal well. She came home with us to live. I dedicated the grave.

14 February 1930 • Friday

Valentine day.

I went to the Temple as usual in the early morning. Attended to important business outside with my daughter Ruby, looking after Life insurance claim &c. Went to the wrestling match in the evening with my son George, complimentary tickets. [page break]

15 February 1930 • Saturday

I having appointment to attend the Oneida Stake Conference to be held in Preston, the first meeting to begin at 7:30 P.M. to-day, I took my car as far as Logan and took Mother, Ruby and Nerva with me. I went on by train to Preston. They stayed in Logan packing & preparing Rubys’ effects for moving to Salt Lake.

I occupied about 50 minutes at the evening at which there were 150 present. I spent the night at President Tayler Nelson’s home.

16 February 1930 • Sunday

Preston, Idaho.

I attended and spoke at both forenoon and afternoon meetings, occupying about 40 minutes in each. I took dinner at the home of Geo. E. Burgi’s and left for Logan on 5:10 P.M. train. Mother, Ruby and I returned to Salt Lake in my car. Leaving Logan at 7:30 P.M., we arrived in Salt Lake at 10:30 P.M.

We left Ruby in Logan with Jack’s brother Ike to ship her belongings.

17 February 1930 • Monday

Beautiful day

I went to the Temple in the morning and attended to other important work. Had my car washed, greased &c

18 February 1930 • Tuesday

Spring like weather.

I spent some time at the Temple. Took Mother to Sugar House where we looked at dining room sets obtained prices &c. We had [page break] Bro. Chaston call and estimate cost of resurfacing floors and finishing the down stairs and stairs woodwork. He offered to do that much for $200.00. We can get a beautiful 9 piece dining room set and large mirror at So. End Furniture Co for $200.00

We are thinking of making these improvements since deciding to not move into apartments.

19 February 1930 • Wednesday

Ruby came from Logan yesterday. I spent part of the day in the Temple and then took Mother, Ruby and Robt Chaston the painter &c and we inspected several homes to get some idea as to how we will have our home fixed up.

I bought a dining room set of 9 pieces and a mirror for $200.00 and made my check to cover. I blessed my grand daughter Alice Cannon assisted by her father and I took her & her parents to the Hospital where Alice is to be operated upon for removal of the appendix tomorrow.

20 February 1930 • Thursday

I went to the Temple as usual in the morning after taking Mother & Ruby to the LDS Hospital where Alice Cannon was operated upon for removal of the appendix. Attended weekly council meeting. Had fly wheel renewed in my car effecting the steering gears. Went to the Hospital & blessed my grand daughter [page break] Alice Cannon and Bro. Geo. Bowles.

Mother & I went to the Temple at 8:30 P.M.

21 February 1930 • Friday

I went to the L.D.S. Hospital and got Ruby & brought home at 8: A.M. I went to the Temple where I had a busy day. I was interviewed by a number of people among them Bp Kidman of Gunnison. Attended committee meeting Bro. Ballard & 27th Ward Bishopric at 5: P.M. in my office.

22 February 1930 • Saturday

I took R.G.W. Train for Ephraim at 7:35 A.M. my son George taking me to the depot. I was met at the station by H. Counselor Thompson and taken to the home of Bishop Peter D. Jensen where I spent the time not spent in meetings while in Ephraim. We held meeting of the Stake Presidency at 6:30 P.M. and a meeting of the Stake Priesthood at 7:30 P.M. I spoke at both. In going to meeting in the evening we had a head-on collision. Both cars were damaged but no one seriously hurt. Several young men supposed to be drunk ran into us as we were about to turn a Corner onto the paved highway.

23 February 1930 • Sunday

This is the 69th anniversary of my birth.

I am well and happy. At <Ephraim>

I attended and spoke at forenoon & afternoon meetings of the So. Sanpete Stake Conference, and got train at 3:00 P.M. for home, arriving in Salt Lake at 8:30 P.M. My Son Oliver [page break] met me at the train with an auto. The married members of my family resident in Salt Lake called in the evening and were served with Ice Cream & cake, pine nuts & apples.

LeGrand came from Glendale, Cal, last night. He returns taking Ina and children with him Tuesday.

24 February 1930 • Monday

I attended Temple meeting and did desk & other work at the Temple.

I engaged Robt. Chaston to paint upstairs rooms & plain & finish borders of floors & my den room floor to be painted all over $150.00

I went through the Temple with the second session in the evening for John Shackleton.

LeGrand & family stayed the night with us. I paid Auto tax of $12:90 and License 7:50 for 1930. Had New plates put on my Car Number 24, 632.

25 February 1930 • Tuesday

I went to the Temple after breakfast where I had a busy day.

I made out a report to the First Presidency of committee work by Bro. Ballard & me. Prepared Temple statistics for B. H. Roberts to go into his history &c. In the evening I went to the Play House with Hugh & Sarah, Mother & Ruby also accompanying. I took them home after the Show.

26 February 1930 • Wednesday

Mother & I went to the Temple in [page break] the morning. I went to the Hospital between 2: & 3:00 oclock and Got my grand daughter Alice Cannon and with her parents took her home. We remained at the Temple until after 7:00 P.M. In the later evening my daughter Nerva & Son Oliver called and I gave to them each a number of books from my library Nerva got a library Set of 20 Vols. Oliver a set of 10 vols on Short Sermons and many others.

27 February 1930 • Thursday

A heavy fall of snow came last night and to-day.

I took Norinne to the U. on my way to the Temple. Attended Temple meeting, Committee meeting of the Twelve from 9:30 to 10:00 & Regular Council meeting from 10: A.M. to 2:15 P.M. including luncheon.

28 February 1930 • Friday

I attended to my work at the Temple as usual.
