Cooler weather.
I spent several hours at home and attended to some business down town. Attended Religion Class Bd. and Y.M.M.I.A. Bd. meetings and my circle meeting in the temple at night.
My daughter Nerva came to town yesterday morning and Geo L. Tate came to-day [page break] Geo. went through the temple and Nerva went to see Dr Udall and received treatment.
The work on the house is nearing completion and it is going to look nice. We will be satisfied when it is finished.

I attended Quarterly meeting of the Twelve and the Presidency from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Fasting and sacrament day. I restored by the laying on of hands the Priesthood, endowments and sealings to Bro. [first and last names redacted] of California mission, assisted by Pres. Jos. W McMurrin by written authority of the First Presidency.

Cold & Stormy.
I attended the two sessions of conference and was one of the speakers at the afternoon session. I occupied the time from 3:40 to 4:10 with good liberty. I reported the conditions in the European mission and devoted most of the time to the subject of the League of Nations. Had many com[page break]pliments and I acknowledge the hand of the Lord or inspiration from Him.
Pres. Grant & Pres Lund were the speakers in the morning session and Presidents Penrose and Clawson & I were the speakers in the afternon session. Mother Estella Lee and I accompanied Orin & Nina in their car down to LeGrands, Mamie’s and Lucenas in the evening.

My daughter Nerva and Estella Lee are in from Tooele.
I attended Conference meetings at 10 A.M. and 2 P.M. in the Tabernacle and enjoyed the spirit and the instructions.
Attended to some business between and before the meetings.
Attended Liverpool General Priesthood meeting in the Tabernacle and later the Liverpool Conference reunion.

All well.I attended Religion Class Officers meeting at 8:30 A.M., the 10 oclock meeting in the Tabernacle and the 2 P.M. meeting in the Assembly Hall. I presided at the Latter also made closing remarks.
The others speakers were Elder Orson F. Whitney, Alonzo A. Hinckley, [page break] Frank Y. Taylor and Richard W. Young but in the reverse order. The house was full to overflowing.
I attended the Sunday School Union Conference in the Large Tabernacle which was full to overflowing. By request I offered the opening prayr.

I attended Special Priesthood meeting from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. I took the three youngest children to the fair.
In the evening Alice and I attended a reception by the First Presidency in the Assembly Room of the Bishops Building for General Authorities & Stake Presidents and their escorts.
I offered closing prayr.

Attended a meeting of the Twelve, the Seventy and the Mission Presidents in the temple from 9 A.M. to 1:55.
Attended a missionary meeting at 2 P.M. and set apart five missionaries. Attended to business down town
In the evening Alice and I attended a reception by Bp. C. W. Nibley at Hotel Utah. [page break]

I worked at my office several hours, attended M.I.A. General Board & Circle meetings.

I did some work at my office and attended weekly council meeting from 10 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
Alice and I went to the tabernacle recital and saw the King and Queen of Belgium. Their majesties were introduced by the Mayor Montferry and the King made a brief address.

All well.
I spent the day until 4:30 P.M. at my office. I have promised to speak to the Granite Stake High Priests in Forest Dale Ward meeting house next Sunday at 2 P.M. and in Sugar House at 6:30.
Mother and I went shopping after 4:30 and we bought three rugs for the front room at a cost of $45.70.
We have an invitation out to my son Georges’ home for this evening.
My daughter Nerva has been with us since the 1st. [page break] She is taking daily treatments from an ostepath docter.

I spent the forenoon at my office and the afternoon at home, corrected conference discourse &c.
Towards evening Joel took his family and Mother and me and some of the children in his Auto for a ride. We took Nerva to the Ry. station to the 7 P.M. train on her way home. We then visited Bro. Samuel. F. Ball who has been seriously ill for many months and administered to him. I left a X with him. We called on Sarah and Hugh and as the latter was ill we administered to him. Later we took Lucena and her children down town.
This is our boy Ray’s 9th birth day and he had a party.

Except for colds, we are all well. Ideal fall weather.
I spent the forenoon home studying having two appointments to speak later on. I addressed the High Priests Quorum of the Granite Stake in the afternoon and the Sugar House Ward meeting [page break] in the evening, twenty-one members of my family were present at the Sugar House meeting. After the meeting we visited at LeGrands. Mother, Oliver and I went down with LeGrand and returned with Joel. A pleasant day and evening. I occupied about 50 minutes at each meeting Subject at evening meeting was, “Character Defined and the power of thought in information.[”]

I spent the forenoon at my office down town, witnessed the parade this being the first celebration in the state in honor of the discovery of America Oct. 12, 1492 by Christopher Columbus. It is now a public holiday in the state by act of the LeGislature. The Italians were very conspicuous in the parade. Mother & I went to the Empres. at night.

Mr Ayer is cleaning our floors.
I spent part of the day in my office. I set apart five missionaries. Mother and I went shopping and bought another rug and cabinet for the Bathroom. [page break]
This week should see us through with house repairs and furnishings. The painter is nearly through with the outside painting.

I attended to important business at Dinwoodys, spent some time in my office attended Board & Circle meetings &c. Geo. & LeGrand went home with me to lunch.

I spent the day in council at the temple until after 4 P.M. Assisted Clarence Silver installing new lights in the evening.

All well. Georgina expecting.
I spent the forenoon at home assisting Mother to clean rugs and put our furniture in place after floor cleaning.
In the afternoon I attended the funeral services of Elias Conway Ashton held in the Assembly Rooms and went to the cemetery. LeGrand & Ina called at our home. This day marks the ending of our house repairs & furnishings, practically. We placed [page break] in our home a davenport costing $256.50 to-day.

All well.I took 8 A.M. train for Lewiston in company with Bp. John Wells. We arrived at about 1 P.M. Attended afternoon session of the Benson Stake Conference and was one of the speakers. We stayed at Pres. Hendricks’ home.

Lewiston.
I attended Religion Class Convention at 9 A.M. Conference meetings at 10:30 and 2 P.M. and a meeting of the Presidency & H. Council & Bishops and spoke at all the meetings. At 10:30 meetings I talked on R.C. topic, co-relations of R. Classes with Home night. Afternoon I occupied 50 min on Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream. Kingdom established &c.
We returned in the evening; I learned that Joel’s home had been blessed with a third son, born Sat. 18th, 6 P.M.

I spent about five hours in my down town office studying and writing.
We had company towards [page break] evening. Sister Martha Wray & her daughter Gladys and Mabel Easter called on us from England. Hugh & Sarah, Rega & Lucena, Clarence and Nina took supper with us and spent part of the evening.
I this day received a copy of the D&C & Commentary from England.
I paid a plumbing bill of $74.15 to-day.

I assisted in setting apart a company of 47 missionaries. I set apart five of them. I also gave instructions to the missionaries. The remainder of the day I spent in my office. No 213. I voted at the primary election. Mayor, Redmen, Commissioners Hodgeson & Burton. I wrote to Pres. Geo. A. Smith, Liverpool.

The painter finished his work on the house to-day, painting the cellar walls & ceiling, one room for $4.00 one coat.
I attended to business at my office and attended meetings of the Y.M.M.I. Board and of my Circle. I went down to Lucenas’ home between State & Main to Supper. [page break] LeGrand took me down aftr Circle & George brought Mother & me home later.

I attended weekly Council meeting in the temple and attended to business at my office.
In the evening, Mother & I visited with married members of our family and circle members & families at Patriarch H. G. Smith’s home.

All usually well. Snowed this day.
Accompanied by the Patriarch Hyrum G. Smith, I left Salt Lake on the 12:30 P.M. train for Evanston where we arrived about 50 min We were taken by a Brother Bendict in auto to Randolph about 35 miles from Evanston. James Brown of the Stake Presidency accompanied us and we three stayed at the home of Bishop Geo. Peart Jr. During the night about ten inches of snow fell and then the weather turned cold and froze the ground where bared by travel.

Am well in body & spirit.
I attended conference meetings at 10 A.M. and at 2 P.M. and a Stake Priesthood meeting at 7:30 P.M. and spoke at all [page break] meetings. Attendance light on account of the bad roads. We ordained the Bishopric of the Kemmerer Ward. I was mouth in Ordaining Harold Roy Harrison Bishop and setting him apart to preside over the Kemmerer Ward. Bro. Hyrum G. Smith set apart the First Counselor and Edward Sutton and I ordained John Robertson McPhie a High Priest and set him apart Second Counselor.

I attended Religion Class Convention at 9 A.M., Conference at 10:30, Seventies meeting at 12 noon, a service of dedication of Reliefsociety building at 12:30 and conference meeting at 2 P.M. I spoke at all these meetings and offered the dedicatory prayr. I ordained James Brown a Patriarch, set apart James E. Eyre an alternate High Counselor.
Leaving Randolph we at the close of the afternoon meeting. We went to Evanston and spoke at a house filled audience at night. After the meeting at my suggestion the Bp. Matthews & counselor, Bro. H. G. Smith & I visited Sister Bloomfield a sister with whom the Elders lodged in Norwich while I was there.
Bro Smith slept at “Hotel Evanston” and the Proprieter, Geo Spencer would not accept pay. A full day. [page break]

Bro. H. G. Smith and I left Evanston at 8:50 A.M. on No. 19 train two hours late and arrived in Salt Lake at 1:30 P.M. Found folks well. Snow on the ground and still snowing.
I was the speaker at the regular monthly meeting of the Ensign Stake Priesthood in the evening.
Topics treated. The accumulated intelligence present, willing to be directed as evidenced by their presence, by the presidency authority to and Gods work, the saving of souls. What generalship is needed to properly plan for and direct the intelligence and energy that the most good possible may be accomplished. The nobility of the Cause, Moses 1:39, demands an efficient ministry. To obtain which we should begins at the foundation and build up. The foundation in the boy or the child. I then treated the subjects of “Home Evenings,” R. Class work, Lesser Priesthood activities including ward Teaching.

I assisted in setting apart missionaries and attended to usual office duties.
Made ready arrangements for going to Canada, leaving tomorrow. Spent the [page break] evening at home very pleasantly.

All usually well. Snowed.
I spent some time down town in the forenoon, called on Presidents Lund & Penrose & discussed political situation and election with them.
Accompanied by Bishop David A. Smith, I left Salt Lake on the 1:15 P.M. train for Cardston Canada. Pres. Heber S Allen of the Taylor Stake was also on the same train. Before leaving home, I received the printed proof sheets of my two discourses delivered at Conference. I read and corrected the one delivered in the Assembly Hall and mailed to the Deseret News before leaving Salt Lake. Between Salt Lake & Ogden I corrected the one delivered in the Large Tabernacle and mailed it back to the News from Ogden.
I spent the afternoon and evening pleasantly visiting the brethren and reading and had a good nights’ sleep.

On train, Butte.
Am well.
Arrived in Butte about 4:25 A.M. and got up at 6:30 A.M. We took breakfast at the O.S.L. depot ang got Gt. Northern train out of Butte at 8:00 A.M. [page break] for Gt. Falls arriving there at 2:35 P.M. We took rooms at the “Park Hotel” $1.50 each and they were nice enough for any body. I spent the time on the train reading and visiting. I finished reading H. R. Drigg’s Book on “The Art of Teaching.” We are to remain in Gt. Falls until tomorrow morning & then continue on to Cardston. We attended a picture show in the evening. I wrote home to my wife.

Some snow on the ground and heavy wind most of the day.
We left for Cardston at 7:20 A.M. & arrived in Cardston at 6 P.M. We were met at the station by Pres. Edward J. Wood and Bro Hendrickson in the latters sleigh and taken to the formers’ home where we were made comfortable during our stay in Cardston. The evening was spent about the stove in pleasant conversation.
