1 June 1920 • Tuesday

Arrived home at noon having traveled more that eighteen hundred miles going to and returning from Manassa, Colorado. I went direct to my office and met other members of the Book of Mormon Committee and engaged with them in reading the Book of Mormon.

Assisted in setting apart [page break] missionaries and presided at the meeting. Continued Book of Mormon reading in committee from 3 to 5:30.

Hyrum & Estella Lee and their children came in from Tooele in an auto and returned in the evening. They are contemplating moving their home in Salt Lake. My grand daughter Thelma Tate came in with them and remained here for a visit.

2 June 1920 • Wednesday

All well. Fine day.

I sat with the B. of M. Committee reading from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. Attended meetings of the R. Class general board, the YMM Bd. and my Circle meeting. A busy day.

I spent the evening at home Clarence and Mamie and their children visited us.

George & Edith and LeGrand & Ina left this morning for St George by auto on business and pleasure combined.

All well. Fine day.

I attended weekly Council meeting in the temple. Sat with the B. of Mormon Committee reading the B. of Mormon from 2:30 to 5 P.M. Attended to some work in my office. [page break]

4 June 1920 • Friday

All well Fine day.

Accompanied by Alice and Elder M. J. Ballard I left S.L. City at 8 A.M. and arrived in Logan at 12 noon. We were met at the station by Pres. Serge F. Ballif and Dr. Oliver Budge of the Cache Stake Presidency and taken to the former’s house where we got dinner. We then took Alice to my brother Freds’ home & we went into council on the matter of dividing the Cache Stake. We met with the High Council and Bishops at 2 P.M. and with the stake Priesthood in the evening. We wer in council between the meetings. We made good progress. Alice & I stayed at my brother Freds at night.

5 June 1920 • Saturday

Logan.

Am well.

Met with the selected presidencies for the two stakes, Cache & Logan made up of the old Cache Stake.

At 10 A.M. we went into Conference. I was one of the speakers and occupied 40 minutes. Subject, Two powers God & the Devil. Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

We were counseling with the presiding authorities between meetings.

At the afternoon meeting [page break] of the Conference I presented the authorities and question of stake division, names of stakes &c. All voting in the affirmative including the vote to annex College ward to the Logan Stake. I also occupied about 35 minutes commending the retiring officers for their faithfulness and encouraging the new officers.

In the evening we set apart the officers selected and sustained for the two stakes.

Oliver Budge was made president of the South stake named Logan Stake and Jos. E Cardon was set apart the president of the North division called Cache Stake.

6 June 1920 • Sunday

Logan.

All well.

At the forenoon meeting I made closing remarks of about 7 minutes

Took dinner at Jos E. Cardons and administered to his little Girl. At 2 P.M. meeting I was the concluding speaker and occupied 30 mins following Bro Ballard on Faith & works, Had good liberty and a successful conference.

I set apart two counselors & bishops after meeting.

Alice, Bro Ballard & I left Logan at 6 P.M. and arrived in Salt Lake at 9:40 P.M. [page break]

7 June 1920 • Monday

Home.

I spent the forenoon at my office and in the afternoon with Joel & family, Mother, Estella and I went to Tooele. I administered a blessing to my daughter Nerva who is nearing confinement We called at Salt Air on our return trip. Arrived home at 12:40

8 June 1920 • Tuesday

Estella ill.

I worked at my office. Set apart missionaries, attended two sessions of the Book of Mormon Committee of which I am chairman. Six members of the Twelve are members of this committee. Mother, Estella, Oliver Aunt Nerva & Alice Lomar Bingham were baptized for our dead kindred, 20 names each.

9 June 1920 • Wednesday

Estella sick in bed with sore throat and fever.

I took dinner with my daughter Sarah, attended Y.M. Bd. Meeting & my Circle

Spent some hours in my office. LeGrand & Ina took Mother & me, George & Edith for a ride in the evening. We all had supper at George’s.

10 June 1920 • Thursday

Fine day

Estella continues quite ill in bed. Joel & I admin[page break]istered to her and I had her prayed for in our Council meeting.

Attended Council meeting from 10 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. & then attended a committee meeting. Clarence and Mamie took Mother & me and Annie Steel for a ride up Emigration canyon. The flowers are profuse and the scenery beautiful.

Alice’s Sister Sarah and daughter Izola, also Ruth Richards, Wilford’s daughter came from Bear Lake and stayed with us.

11 June 1920 • Friday

All well,

I attended Y.M.M.I. Conference meetings at 10 A.M. & 2 P.M.

Attended to some work at my office. I ordained Bro Wm Cameron a H. Priest and set him apart 2nd Counselor to Bp. Woodruff of Forest Dale Ward.

Alice and I went to the Y.M. & Y.L. Mutual officers party in the Odeon Hall for a short time. Estella Lee came in on the 9:55 P.M. train

12 June 1920 • Saturday

Estella dressed herself and sat up the first time for several days. Others well.

I spent several hours in my office. Attended Mutual [page break] Officers meeting and offered the opening prayr. Attended the Mutual Rally.

I attended 8:30 A.M. testimonial meeting of the Y.M. & Y.L. Conference, the 10 A.M. conference meeting, the 2 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. meetings. A busy day. Excellent meetings.

14 June 1920 • Monday

Warm.

Lucena, Nina and Mother ill. I visited Lucena & Nina and in the late evening administered to Mother.

I spent the forenoon at my office and the afternoon at home. Geo. & Edith in their car took us to see Lucena & Nina Maria Clark, Sarah J. Dunn and Estella Lee, Alice’s Sisters were visiting here with us.

Mother has a severe cold.

My son George took Mother and me out to Lucena’s in or beyond Sugar House. George, & Rega & I administered to Lucena She is nauciated all the time.

I later went to the hospital & blessed my niece Ruth Hymas who is about to be operated upon for appendicitis. [page break]

I spent part of the day in my office. A part of what I have included in Tuesday’s record should have been in this day’s record. I attended meetings of Y.M.M. & R.C. Boards and of my circle.

Am well

Lucena same. Weather beautiful.

I attended weekly Council meeting in the temple from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Worked in my office until 6 P.M. and thent went down to Nina’s and took dinner and later went to Lucena’s and administered to her.

I left on midnight train for McCammon, thence to Montpelier, thence by stage to Star Valley Pres Chas. R. Hart accompanied me. We arrived in Afton at 8:30 A.M. Fri. I stayed at the home of Arthur Burton.

Afton, Wyo.

Pleasant weather.

Am well.

I attended Conference meetings at 10 A.M. & 2 P.M. and spoke at both. Subjects, Becoming false witness & tale bearing; and History repeats itself. Hear the prophets and be prepared for the things which are to come to pass in our time. [page break]

Am well.

I attended three public conference meetings and a meeting of the Seventies of three quorums and spoke at each.

Subj: Profanity, tithing and sacredness & Responsibility of fatherhood this being fathers day.

21 June 1920 • Monday

I left Afton, Wyoming at 8:15 A.M. and arrived in Salt Lake City about 11:50 P.M.

I found my family folks improved, i.e., Lucena & Mother.

22 June 1920 • Tuesday

Home.

Mother went to Tooele with her brother Henry and her sisters Annie & Sarah.

I spent the day in my office

With Elder Ballard I went to the hospital where we administered to a Sister Monde who was about to be operated upon for appendicitis; also to my niece Ruth Richards Hymas, the latter having gone through an operation.

23 June 1920 • Wednesday

Lucena still in bed. Others well. Fine weather.

I attended to business with F. D. Richards at Genealogical office at 9 A.M.

At 10:30 A.M. I met a member [page break] of the Richards’ family at the Capitol building and presented to the State the painting of Father Willard Richards by Harwood. I made a few remarks of presentation and Secretary of State, Harden Bennion for the Governor & the State accepted the painting and had it placed on the wall of the Secretary’s office. I attended Mutual Board meeting and my Circle.

After supper George took Mother Sarah Jane Dunn & me out to For Lucena’s and we administered to her.

24 June 1920 • Thursday

I attended regular weekly Council meeting from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Attended the Richards family reunion at Saltair in the afternoon & evening.

25 June 1920 • Friday

Home.

Pleasant day All well but Lucena who is ill.

I spent part of the day at my desk. Attended to some business down town.

Attended a missionary farewell for Elder McFarlane in the Ward house.

Took 11:30 train for Rexburg.

26 June 1920 • Saturday

In company with President Levi Edgar Young and Sister Donnetta Smith Kesler, I [page break] arrived in Rexburg, Idaho at 10:40 this morning. We were met at the Ry Station by Sister Austin & son with their car and driven to the tabernacle where the Fremont Stake Conference was in session. One of the Bishops was talking. After him President Mark Austin and I each spoke. I occupied 30 minutes. Subj: obedience. 619 present stake pop. 6744

At the afternoon session 959 were in attendance or 14%+ of the stake population. I did not speak at this meeting. Elder Young occupied the time after 3 P.M. The attendance was unusually large for Saturday, due to special effort having been made at my suggestion in Teton Stake recently, President Austin having been present.

At 8 P.M. a general priesthood meeting was held at which I spoke 189 were present. At a Seventies meeting at 4:30 P.M. I also spoke & recommended that they organize to do missionary work among nonmembers at home.

27 June 1920 • Sunday

Rexburg, Idaho.

I attended conference session at 10 A.M. & 2 P.M. and spoke at each. Subject in forenoon Reliefsociety work & afternoon the Martyrdom of the Prophet & Patriarch. [page break] Assisted in ordaining about 31 Seventies.

We had a good conference and at 6:10 we left for home arriving next morning at 7 P.M., found all pretty well. Lucena improving.

28 June 1920 • Monday

Arrive in Salt Lake from Rexburg at 7 A.M.

Hyrum & Estella Lee & family were here expecting their son Grant to-day from a mission to the Southern States.

I went to the Station with the folks and met Grant Lee and Alice & I spent the afternoon and evening with them, the latter at Saltair.

29 June 1920 • Tuesday

I set apart five missionaries and attended Quarterly Con. of the Twelve from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. exepting a brief intermission.

30 June 1920 • Wednesday

Mother, Sarah and I went to Provo and attended special exercises at the B.Y.U. for the Teacher’s Training classes.

I made a brief talk. We went with Elder D. O. McKay and Mother & I returned with our son Joel late at night.
