I spent the day at the temple as usual. Attended Y.M.M.I.A. Gen. Bd. meeting at 5 P.M. and my Circle at 6:30. LeGrand went home with me from Circle and took supper. Later Mother LeGrand & I went up to George’s and he cut our hair i.e. gave to LeG. & me a shingle.

2 February 1922 • Thursday

Am well. I went to the temple as usual. Pres Adolph Merz of the No. Sanpete Stake was the Speaker in our temple 9 A.M. meeting.

Attended Council meeting from 10 to 1 P.M. Attended to Sealings &c. A busy day.

Alice & I attended the wedding reception of Louise Richards & her Husband [blank] Covey.

3 February 1922 • Friday

I attended to my temple duties as usual. Pres. Wm H. Smart of Roosevelt Stake was the speaker at the 9’oclock meeting. Alice and seven other members of the Robinson family went through the temple and had sealings done, I officiated in the sealings. [page break]

Administered to Pres. Adolph Merz of North Sanpete Stake Presidency at the temple.

Tomorrow, Feb 4th, being the 90 aniversary of the birth of Pres. C. W. Penrose we are having a special night session to-night, where work will be done for his dead kindred. Our capacity is 280. We can accommodate that number. I went through with the night session for Henry Penrose & took train later for Idaho.

4 February 1922 • Saturday

Arrived at Moore, Idaho at 11 A.M. and went to Conference at the Lost River Stake, I spoke at the forenoon meeting on the Live of C. W. Penrose; in the afternoon on Bearing False Witness.

Slept at the home of Pres. Pattese.

5 February 1922 • Sunday

Occupied 55 minutes at morning session. Subject, Two Powers in the world. Choose ye this day whom ye will serve.

Bishop David A. Smith who was with me did his share.

We took 12:50 P.M. train and arrived in Salt Lake at 10:40 P.M.

I read 116 pages from Essentials of Church History.

6 February 1922 • Monday

Had a busy day at temple supervising the reseating of the endowment rooms &c.

This is my son LeGrands 36th birth day anniversary and [page break] I with other members of the family spent a pleasant evening at my Son Georges’ home in LeGrands’ honor.

Lucena was ill and, she and Rega were not at George’s. Rega and I administered to Lucena.

7 February 1922 • Tuesday

I spent a busy day at the temple. Jos. F Smith Jr & Willard Young were with me considering the endowment ceremonies

Investigated Edward Ray who has been assisting us with the work in the temple and told him we could not use him longer. He claims special gifts in healing and embarrasses the other brethren by his presumptions.

Spent the evening at home.

8 February 1922 • Wednesday

We are prepared to take care of companies of 300 and four companies a day three days each week. Three of the four companies are full today. Something over 1100 endowments were administered today.

I attended to my duties at the temple as usual. Attended the Y.M.M. Bd. Meeting & my circle meeting.

Alice was taken with chill, followed by fever & sore throat. I administered to her before retiring.

9 February 1922 • Thursday

I attended to my temple duties as usual and at[page break]tended weekly Council meeting of the Presidency, the Twelve & Patriarch in the temple from 10 A.M. to about 3 P.M.

I met John Wells at the Office of the Presiding Bishopric & we together called upon John Ruff the engineer at the L.D.S. Gym and we there repaired to the temple where we considered a ventilating scheme for the temple. We are to meet tomorrow at eleven A.M. with Bro Lawrence to consider further this important matter.

I spent the evening at home, Orin & Nina spent the evening with us.

10 February 1922 • Friday

I went to the temple as usual and attended to my regular duties there. Met with a committee on ventilation for the temple composed of David A. Smith & Jno Wills of the Presiding Bishopric, John Ruff Engineer, John Lawrence machinist, Theo. Tobidson Builder, Jos. Fielding Smith & myself. We having been authorized by the First Presidency decided to prepare the shaft beside the North Elevator shaft in west end of temple as a flue size about 2'–6" x 4' or 5' running up to upper floor & roof of the temple and out at a north window facing the N.W. tower.

When this is done we will then determine whether or not it will be necessary to install a fan. [page break]

I brought my grip and paraphanalia with me to the temple this morning intending to take 4 P.M. train to Preston but I did not get through with the sealing until after 4 P.M. so decided to wait until morning which will cause me to miss Sat. morning meeting.

Alice has a severe cold and is quite ill and I am glad to not have to leave home tonight.

11 February 1922 • Saturday

I left Salt Lake on Electric car at 8 A.M. and arrived in Preston 1:15 P.M. I was met by Pres. Parley M. Condie and taken to a restaurant to dinner, thence to conference of Oneida Stake.

I occupied 55 minutes, Subject Financial condition. The necessity for our living near to the Lord so that we can have his help in time of special need. Be merciful as we would like mercy shown toward us of God. Be prayerful & devoted to the Lord. &c.

Pres B. H. Roberts arrived soon after the close of the afternoon meeting.

At 4:20 we attended a meeting of the High Council where 20 of us spoke. Bro Roberts & I slept at the home of Pres. Taylor Nelson of the Stake Pres.

12 February 1922 • Sunday

I spoke 45 min at afternoon session on loyalty to God and to Government, Good Citizenship. Two powers Christ & Satan; two roads, broad & narrow “Thy will be done”. We came here to do Father’s will. I attended a [page break] genealogical meeting and gave instructions.

We took train at 4:55 and were held up on the divide account of the snow and arrived in Salt Lake at 10:40 P.M. My son George picked me up on the street with his auto and brought both Bro. Roberts & me home.

My son Joel was at the evening meeting of the 27th ward made Bishop with Bros. Olsen & Hardy as his counselors. Pres. Clawson and the Stake Presidency were present and attended to the business or reorganization.

With my son George I went to Joels’ home where were Mother, Ray, LeGrand & Ina, Rega & Lucena & Edith

We stayed there until about 12 o’clock.

13 February 1922 • Monday

This day is a public holiday observed by some. Our work at the temple went on as usual.

I spent part of the day in the temple. Returned to my home early and in the evening Alice & I with Hugh and Sarah as guests went to the Pantages theatre.

14 February 1922 • Tuesday

Valentine Day.

I attended to my work at the temple as usual. Leroy C. Snow was speaker at the temple meeting.

I assisted in setting apart missionaries. Spent the evening at home. All well.

Weather continues cold, much snow. [page break]

15 February 1922 • Wednesday

I went to the temple as usual where I attended to my regular duties. I was called to the office of the Presidency for consultation on a case where a young man who is to leave today for a mission after having been endowed decided to marry and married outside the temple. He claims innocence of any impropriety in his course. I recommended that we take his word and let him go on his mission feeling that there is no ban upon him. This met the approval of Pres. Penrose and Pres. Maggleby of the So. Sevier Stake from where the young man came.

I attended M.I.A. Bd meeting, my Circle meeting and a benefit concert in 27th Ward for Jos. A. West who is in ill health. Gave $5.00

16 February 1922 • Thursday

I spoke at temple fast meeting, attended weekly Council meeting in the temple from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. Attended to temple duties as usual. My sister Nerva, my wife and Ruby went through today.

Alice, Ruby and I went to the Wilks theatre and saw, “Way Down East.”

17 February 1922 • Friday

Attended to temple duties as usual. Answered correspondences

In the evening Alice & I attended the Tabernacle Concert Madam SchumanHeike was the artist.

I took 11:30 train for Rupert, Idaho. [page break]

18 February 1922 • Saturday

I met Mr Taggart on the train at Minnidoka. He is Government Inspector &c Had long talk with him.

I was met at Station at Rupert by Bp. Borup and Pres. Adamson and went to meeting there in session. I spoke upon the subject of Lay Citizenship.

I took dinner with Bro. & Sister Seymour Fackrell and administered to their adopted child whom they thought had tonsillitis. She was all right next morning, praise the Lord. At the afternoon session I occupied about 60 minutes on principally, Service. Had good liberty. Administered to several people. Took supper with Richard May & family where I spent the night. At the Priesthood meeting in the evening there were present 174. I occupied about 40 minutes on How to Get an efficient ministry and Vitalization of quorum and other officers. Commence with the 8 yr old boy & prepare him all along the way to H. Priest. Teach him what he can do to magnify his calling, learn well to do it and give him the work to do. What a deacon do? &c.

19 February 1922 • Sunday

I spoke at 9 A.M. Bishops’ meeting. Gave instructions about issuing recommends, preparing the people before hand for the blessings they are sure later to seek. Put them all on probation Bp. a Judge. [page break]

At 10 A.M. meeting I occupied 40 min. Subject, Bearing False Witness and Tale Bearing and I touched Honoring Parents. Showed how one can suffer mentally, Ex. Cal. Miner, Jesus on Gethsemine. Recited Which Loved Best, the Decalogue, Gossip, Think Gently of the Erring One.

Took dinner with Bp. Astle & family of Rupert 2nd Ward.

At afternoon meeting by request of Pres. Adamson I took the time 1 hr 20 m. and spoke with great freedom on “Two Powers.” Read Rev. 12:1–12; Moses 1:1–22; 4:1–5; The war is still on. How some are lending encouragement to the enemy. Thy will be done. Follow Jesus. Allow the Authorities to interpret the will of God where we have doubt. Secret orders, card parties & card games Word of wisdom, fashion, non practice of Plural marriage. The message seemed to go home. I blessed a Sister Robinson who was approaching confinement, administered to John R. [blank].

I took supper at Bp. Borups’ Took train at 8 P.M. for home.

20 February 1922 • Monday

Arrived in Salt Lake 7:15 A.M.

Took parcel to post office and sent to Alice Ann parcel post.

Wrote Pres. Grant at Santamonica Cal. recommending the increasing of the temple veil from 8 to 17 & how after having presented same to his counselors. Gave directions to the work at the temple. We are tearing up and rebuilding or repairing to [page break] mak more ‘dressing room[’] for the men folks who come to the temple. &c.

Geo & Edith, Alice & I went to the Wilkes theatre in the evening. George was not feeling well and during the night he had high temperature.

21 February 1922 • Tuesday

I arose early, shaved, bathed and with my son Joel visited and administered to my son Geo and Sister Isabella Gibson before going to the temple. Later my son LeGrand & I visited and administered to George and to Orin. Mother went with us to Sugar House to see Orin. We called at LeGrands’ home and he brought us home.

I attended to my duties at the temple. Attended a stock holder’s meeting at the Utah Implement Vehicle Co. and was elected a stockholder director, and I qualified as such.

In the evening Alice & I called on George & Edith. George is feeling better. Stormy day, Snow.

22 February 1922 • Wednesday

This is Washington’s Birth Day and tomorrow will be mine. Sixteen of the family including myself went through the temple for our family folks.

I attended to the sealing of the living as usual at the temple.

I took Alice and Lucena to the Empress theatre in the evening.

George much better, Orin slightly better. [page break]

23 February 1922 • Thursday

This is the 61st anniversary of my birth.

I went to the temple as usual.

Elder Geo. Albert Smith was the speaker at our temple meeting.

I attended weekly Council meeting in the temple from 10 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Attended to sealing work &c.

This being my birth day my sons Geo., LeGrand & Joel & their wives took Mother & me to New House Hotel and gave us a good supper. Later we had as many of our family together as we could get at our home & spent a pleasant evening.

A number of small presents were given me. Nina & Orin could not be with us on account of Orins illness.

24 February 1922 • Friday

I went into the temple before 8:30 and remained until 6 P.M.

Made ready and took 11:30 train for Burley, Idaho in company with Pres. C. H. Hart.

25 February 1922 • Saturday

Arrived in Burley at noon and were met by Pres. Langlois and we went with him to his home. Later Pres. Hart went with Counselor M. C. Barlow to stay.

The population of the Burley Stake is 3992– The attendance was 310—706—1101—1223 or 7¾%, 17½, 27½, 30½%

At the afternoon meeting I occupied 65 minutes with good voice and liberty on the subject of Two Powers, God & Satan—Good & Evil—Strait & Narrow road vs Broad way. War in heaven. Jesus’ platform. He came to do his Fathers will. [page break] We came for a similar purpose. We should be willing to let the living oracles interpret his will for us. cards & card parties, secret orders, Word of Wisdom, dress & fashions &c.

I attended a meeting of the 200th Quorum of Seventy and spoke to them outlining the missionary work they can do at home.

26 February 1922 • Sunday

I spoke 43 min. in the 10 A.M. meeting where there were many young people & children using as my text, “Honor thy Father & thy Mother.[”] I had good liberty & much satisfaction in my talk.

At the 2 P.M. meeting, I occupied the last 25 minutes on the subject of service. Quoted—[‘]Get Somebody Else’. Merely touched the Subject.

Pres. Hart and I took 7:40 P.M. train for home.

27 February 1922 • Monday

I walked up from the O.S.L Depot and went to the temple at 7:30 A.M.

Wrote up my journal, my card report, considered several letters of correspondence &c.

Phoning home at 7:50 I learned that Orin Woodbury’s illness is declared to be small pox but that he is feeling better than he did a few days ago. In the afternoon I went with my wife, Estella, Mamie and her two children and we were all vaccinated for Small pox.

I spent the evening at home. [page break]

Both mother and I have colds.

Oliver was home from school on account of cold &c. Cold day.

28 February 1922 • Tuesday

Cold wind all night. Our water pipe in the basement froze up.

I went to the temple as usual and attended to my duties there.

Spent the evening working on my Commentary.
