1 April 1930 • Tuesday

I spent most of the day at the Temple. Had repair made on the front fender of my car where some body had run into me & evidently while my car was parked. The painters are finishing the painting in our house to-day. There are two of them and they began four weeks ago to-day. The Contract price is $350.00. I have paid them $300. and will pay the balance to-day. There will be some extras.

Beautiful weather

I had a busy day at the Temple attending meetings, sealing couples &c. I was nearly 14 hours in the Temple.

4 April 1930 • Friday

Lovely weather.

I had a busy day at the Temple

My daughters Ruby & Estella are at our home and Estella is in bed ill to-day.

Attended wrestling match in the evening, complements of V. McCullough [page break]

5 April 1930 • Saturday

I spent most of the day at my desk in the Temple. I attended a general public Genealogical meeting in the Barrett Hall in the afternoon. I offered prayer in the opening and spoke briefly by request in the closing. Answered questions &c.

Estella & Spencer, Ruby & Edna are with us.

6 April 1930 • Sunday

Mother, Ruby, George & Joel & I were in attendance at this meeting where admittance was had by ticket. It was a remarkable occasion. The Address by the Presidency to the Church and to the world was read by Pres. Grant in 39 min, It was well read and its contents was a remarkable and impressive presentation of the Gospels history & truth, The voting by the conference by quorums was well done and impressive as also was the Hosannah Shout.

Mother, Ruby, Edna, Norinne & I attended the 1st session of the Pagent in the Tabernacle at night.

7 April 1930 • Monday

I was the first speaker in the afternoon session of Conference and occupied 22 minutes.

After the afternoon Conference meeting I attended a meeting of the Howe Sir Name family organization as its President and was re-elected for one year. [page break]

8 April 1930 • Tuesday

The weather has been warm and delightful through conference so far. The Conference meetings are well attended. A good influence & spirit prevails and good instruction given & received.

9 April 1930 • Wednesday

We had a good rain storm during the night. The day was somewhat cloudy but most pleasant. Grass & trees out in green & the country washed clean.

We had excellent Conference meetings and towards evening I took some of the folks for a ride, viz.: Mother Nerva, Ruby, Sarah & her Alice & Dean. We held a directors meeting of the Richard’s Motor co. after 8: P.M.

10 April 1930 • Thursday

Oliver’s birth day the 26th I spent a busy day at the Temple as usual.

I went in about 8:30 A.M. and came out about 7:30 P.M. or 8:00

11 April 1930 • Friday

Weather beautiful

I spent a busy day at the Temple as usual.

My son George & I attended the wrestling match in the evening, on Complementary tickets.

Ruby is with us as a fixture in the family and Estella & Barbara are with us temporarily.

12 April 1930 • Saturday

Fine day.

I went to the temple in the morning and did some studying of Gospel subjects.

Attended Tabernacle Services in the afternoon, Pres. Grant & Alonzo A Hinckley speakers.

I spent the evening at home. Heard Elder Talmage’s Radio Address

14 April 1930 • Monday

I was in meeting with the Twelve & Seventy from 8:00 A.M. to about 3:00 P.M.

Attended to duties at the Temple until evening when Mother and I went through the

Temple for endowments for the dead. We spent about 13 hours in the Temple.

15 April 1930 • Tuesday

Stormy day.

I was one of three Speakers at the funeral services of David Horsley

Spent several hours in the Temple. Called on Lucena, our daughter, who this day met with an auto accident, by which a man ran into her car broadside and shook her up and bruised her considerably.

Mother & I went to the Play House and saw, “Within the Law”, in the evening.

16 April 1930 • Wednesday

Cool, clear, weather.

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual, and attended a missionary meeting and set apart the missionaries.

Beautiful day.

I attended to my meetings at the Temple as usual including regular Thu. meetings. All usually well.

18 April 1930 • Friday

Fine weather

I attended to my work at the Temple as usual.

I went to Centerville and administered to Bro. Melvin H. Randall

My Son George & I attended the wrestling match in the evening on complimentary tickets.

19 April 1930 • Saturday

My son Joel, his wife, Mother & I left in DeSoto 8. at 6:20 A.M. for Kanab. We went to the Bryce Canyon on the way, 20 miles off the road and arrived in Kanab, 320 miles from home at 7:20 P.M. and attended and spoke at the first of the Stake Conference meetings.

20 April 1930 • Sunday

Staying at Kanab Hotel.

I attended three public conference meetings and spoke at forenoon & evening meetings, Subject Easter & the life, death & Resurection of our savior. Attended a meeting of the Presidency at 9:00 A.M.

Set apart a counselor, Bro. Chamberlain in the Orderville Bishopric.

21 April 1930 • Monday

Kanab.

We left for home and drove to Richfield where we spent the [page break] night, attending to business along the way and going 62 miles out of the way to Zions Canyon through the Tunnel cut off.

We spent the day attending to business and getting home, arriving safely at about 9:30 P.M.

I spent a busy day at the Temple.

24 April 1930 • Thursday

I spent a busy day at the Temple except the time going to Centerville where I spoke at the funeral services of Melvin H. Randall, one of our Temple workers. I took with me in my car, Pres. Christensen, Call, Harris, Howells & Clark.

25 April 1930 • Friday

I spent a busy day at the Temple. In the evening wrote to Ray & sent $40.00 check. Attended wrestling match in the evening, complementary with George.

26 April 1930 • Saturday

I spent most of the day in the Temple, studying, writing &c. I[n] the evening I attended an entertainment given by the Waterloo ward with Oliver & paid $2.00.

27 April 1930 • Sunday

I filled my appointment to the Pioneer Stake. Attended three public Conference meetings and spoke at two of them. [page break]

28 April 1930 • Monday

I spent a busy day at the temple and went through for John Gill in the evening.

29 April 1930 • Tuesday

Much rain fell.

I spent two hours at the dentists. Had two fillings put in and my teeth cleaned.

Attended to desk work at the Temple.

I discovered last evening that in 1886 my mother & her brothers & Sisters except Wm, were sealed to their parents, and I think William who was then living, has not been sealed to his parents. I have to-day informed his daughter Sadie Wright of this apparent neglect and she said she would write to her Mother to-day to learn if she had had any thing done for him. Wm & Lottie were sealed in the Endowment House the same day that they had their endowments, 18 Oct. 1869.

A telegram from Pres. Grant in Los Angeles stated that he would be in Salt Lake on this evening’s train & called a meeting of the General Authorities for 9 P.M. We considered the advisability of filming the Pageant, the “Epoch of the Ages”. We adjourned at 12 o’clock until ten o’clock tomorrow morning not having reached a decision, Pres Ivins the one of the General Authorities opposing it.

30 April 1930 • Wednesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. At 10: A.M. attended a meeting of the General Authorities at which it was decided to not film the Pageant at present, but that it might be perfected more nearly & after School is out for the Summer, it may be done. [page break]

Assisted by Elder Jos. F. Smith & Pres Jos. J. Daynes of Grant Stake, I set apart Charles Edward Rich an Alternate H.C. I also ordained my Son Oliver an High Priest and set him apart Second Counselor to Bp. Anderson in the Bishopric of Waterloo ward, at the Temple annex, assisted by the above named brethren.

I had a busy day at the Temple. Attended to some sealing work after the last evening session got through the veil. Mother, Nerva, Ruby, Mamie, Geo. L. & Thelma taking part.
