On train at Butte.

Arrived in Butte at 4:20 A.M.

Detrained before 7: A.M. and left Butte via. G.N. Ry at 7:15 A.M.

Arrived in Gt. Falls at 1:20 P.M. Elder Whitney and I put up at Park hotel, Sister Allen went to the Rainbow Hotel. I took a $1.50 room and was Comfortable. I read during the day “The Life of Karl G. Maeser” a book of 180 pages.

My health is good.

To obviate Kidney trouble, avoid sweets, red meat, highly seasoned foods and pastry, the Doctor’s prescription for Bro. Whitney.

2 November 1928 • Friday

I left Gt Falls at 7:35 A.M. and arrived in Lethbridge at 4:10 P.M. 204 m. Sister Allen of the Reliefsociety went to Lethbridge, while Elder Whitney changed trains at Sterling and went to Cardston, We were met at the Station by Pres. Asael E. Palmer and Counselor Geo. W Green, also Sister Harvey & Green of that Stake Reliefsociety. I went home with Pres Palmer three miles out from Town to the Experiment Farm. In the evening I accompanied Bro Palmer to the Theater, an English Company playing a Revolutionary play. It was good.

3 November 1928 • Saturday

Lethbridge.

I attended two public meetings of the Priesthood Convention Conference and a social & banquet in the evening and spoke at each. I had a busy time between meetings counseling with the brethren, administering to the Sick &c

4 November 1928 • Sunday

Lethbridge.

I attended and spoke at the three public Conference meetings, sat in Counsel with the Presidency and H. Council & later with the Presidency by them selves. Set apart the Presidents of the 151st quorum of Seventy & a counseler to Bp Brown of [blank] Ward. Administered to a Sister Anderson.

It was a busy & strenuous day.

The Conference finished I feel well about the work. Pres. Palmer says that I have given him more helpful Suggestions than any others of the Brethren from headquarters. [page break]

Other compliments were given me which makes me feel that I have done some good. I met my wife’s Cousin David Wilcox & her niece Annie Steed Green.

I also met a Brother [blank] who reminded me of a time when in London, Sister Richards & I were attending a meeting in Finsbury Park where Bro Hawks & I were the Speakers. He said he was one of the mob to whom I preached & he & others were made to sit up & take notice. He later Joined the church & married one of our London girls whom I called to be a missionary. He is now President of the First quorum of Elders, and quite active.

5 November 1928 • Monday

Lethbridge

I left for home on 9:30 A.M. train, arrived in Gt. Falls at 7:00 P.M. 204 m. I took a room at Park Hotel $1.50 and went to the Liberty Theater and saw “Mother Knows Best.” It was good.

6 November 1928 • Tuesday

Gt Fall, Mont.

Election Day.

I took train at 8: A.M. for Butte on G.N. Ry and arrived in Butte at 2:30 P.M., 170 miles. On the train I formed the acquaintance of Raymond E. Dorius of 23 Third North St. S.L.C. I asked him how he would like to go to Denmark & preside over that mission. He is a traveling man 44 yrs old & has a wife and several young Children, & Speaks the Dutch Language. He has never been upon a mission abroad but is active and intelligent. He is a President of Seventy. Has done good missionary work in his travels.

I went direct to the O.S.L. Depot and [page break] took dinner and remained there until train time 5:10 P.M. when I left for home. This writing I am doing at Butte while waiting. I am well and have been since leaving home.

My mission to Lethbridge Stake has been pleasant and successful.

7 November 1928 • Wednesday

I arrived home from Lethbridge this morning on 7:55 A.M. train O.K. Attended and presided at the Temple meetings, attended to desk work &c. Attended to some business outside the Temple. Did the living sealing work. Attended my prayer Circle meeting in the evening.

8 November 1928 • Thursday

I presided at the Morning Temple meeting as usual. Attended weekly Council meeting from 10: A.M. to about 3: P.M. including luncheon which is served in the Temple. Attended to other Temple duties.

This day I put my Franklin Car in the Franklin Motor Sales Co. Shop to be sold, and I bought a new Delux foredoor Sedan of the DeSoto make of the Richards Motor Co. I took Mother, her Sister Estella and my Sister Minerva up to Centerville to see Sister Ford, one of our Temple workers who recently lost her husband and since then stepped on a rusty nail and is laid up with lameness I administered a blessing to her at her request.

Mother & I took Estella Lee down to her home in Sugar House and later called on members of the family. [page break]

9 November 1928 • Friday

Mother and I went to the Temple as usual in the morning where we attended to duty as usual.

We later visited and I administered to Wilford A. Kimball, Sister Ericksen and Joel F. Grover. Returned to the Temple and attended to Sealing work for Pres & Sis. Grant. Assisted by Bros. Roberts & Rogers. I administered to Bro Chas. R. Jones for his eyes, as he intends having an operation tomorrow.

10 November 1928 • Saturday

Accompanied by my wife, my son Joel & his wife & baby I went to Tremonton in my New DeSoto Car, and leaving the women at Tremonton Joel & I went on to Garland and attended the Bear River Stake Conference & Priesthood Convention. We attended two sessions during the day, and a social entertainment in the evening. I spoke at each. Joel spoke once.

11 November 1928 • Sunday

Tremonton & Garland.

I attended and spoke at two public conference meetings and ordained [&] Set apart a number of officers, including two H. Counselors; two Bishoprics, Two Presidents of Seventy &c We returned home after 5: P.M. having a successful trip-

12 November 1928 • Monday

Armistice having come on Sunday this day is celebrated. Pen & Estella are with us, I did some sealing [page break] work at the Temple, attended them morning meeting &c. I played golf in the afternoon.

13 November 1928 • Tuesday

I had a glycerin Preparation put in the radiator of my DeSoto car for winter use. I took Mother down to Sarah’s below 21st So. and later went down and got her & took her home. I assisted in setting apart and instructing a company of missionaries. Mother had engaged some of our grandchildren to act as proxy in being baptized for the dead. I went up home and got them and took them home after. I made preparation to leave tomorrow morning for the Southern Arizona Stakes.

14 November 1928 • Wednesday

I took 8:15 A.M. train for Los Angeles on my way to Thatcher, Ariz., to attend St Joseph Stake Conference. On the same car was Sister Zou Irvine going to the same Conference representing the Reliefsociety. I spent a pleasant day on the train resting, reading and studying.

15 November 1928 • Thursday

On the train 5½ hours behind scheduled time when I awoke in the morning. We continued behind time until we reached Losangeles and had less than an hour’s wait for the 3:00 P.M. S.P. train to leave on our way to Safford & Thatcher, Ariz.

16 November 1928 • Friday

Sister Irvine & I reached Safford at 3:00 P.M. where we were met at the Depot by Pres. Harry L Payne and wife and were taken to their home [page break] Later Sister Irvine was taken to the home of Counselor Ellsworth where she made her stay while in Safford.

Our trip from Salt Lake on the train was pleasant; my health is good. I have scarcely had a touch of Sciatica since I left home. May the Lord be praised.

17 November 1928 • Saturday

Safford, Arizona.

I slept cold last night with five thicknesses of quilts, a spread and a sheet over me.

I attended and spoke at the two general Priesthood Convention Conference sessions and at the Social in the evening. I also spent much time conferring with the Stake Presidency & others looking to reorganization, filling vacancies &c. I spent a busy & strenuous day but have satisfaction The Lord blessed us. At night I slept comfortably with an electric bed warmer to assist me.

18 November 1928 • Sunday

Safford, Ariz.

We continued the Convention con. I spoke at three meetings, and ordained and set apart a number of officers, including the Bishopric of the Layton ward, the Presidency of the High Priests Quorum, four Presidents of the 89th quorum of Seventies & ordained 10 or 15 Seventies, set apart an alternate H Counselor &c. I had a strenuous day but much was accomplished and I am happy.

19 November 1928 • Monday

Safford, Ariz.,

Sister Alonzo B. Irvine and I left [page break] Safford at 10:18 A.M. She left the train at 3:50 P.M. at Tucson where she has a niece attending School. I went on to Los Angeles and put up at the Del Mar Hotel where I have a pass for 1928. I had a pleasant day & night and am well & happy.

20 November 1928 • Tuesday

I arrived in Los Angeles from Safford, Ariz. at 7:20 A.M. Took Taxy cab to the Del Mar Hotel, 1026 Worf, 3d St. Corner 3d and Beaudry Street. Fare 85¢ paid by the Hotel Company. I took a room with a bath no. 302.

I talked with Preston D. & Claude Richards I wrote a letter to Mother and one to Pres. Payne of St. Joseph Stake. On invitation of Preston D. Richards, I took luncheon with him and went with him to the M.I.A. meeting in Santa Monica ward where I spoke to the Priesthood & later to the assembled men & women. We called at the Marvista ward chapel and saw through it. It is a marvel of beauty & comfort and cost about $63,000.00 I stayed at Preston Richard’s home over night.

21 November 1928 • Wednesday

Los Angeles, Del Mar Hotel.

Preston D. brought me from his home to the hotel on his way to work. I shaved, cleaned up and read & studied &c. wrote letter to Pres Price of Phoenix. In the afternoon I played a game of golf with Preston D. Richards and took supper with him. After Supper we went up to the new Stake house where the Wilshire ward people were working. From there we went over to Broadway [page break] and rode up & down the Street which is beautifully lighted and adorned with signs making a beautiful sight. I am indebted to Preston for a pleasant time had these two days in Los Angeles. We played 14 holes of golf and quit because it became too dark to play. The last 5 holes we were tied in strokes.

22 November 1928 • Thursday

Del Mar Hotel, Los Angeles

Am well.

Fine weather.

Claude Richards called up and invited me to go home with him to luncheon about noon. I accepted his invitation.

Later Claude Called for me having Pres. Rey L Pratt with him. He drove us to Glendale, his home. There we administered a blessing to his wife Mary Taylor Richards, I being voice. We then drove back to Town & at Claude’s expence took dinner at an eating house, and from there went and saw a home Claude & Pres. Pratt were figuring on buying as a home for the President of the Mexican mission. They were trying to get it for less than $16,000. but I think if they get it for $20,000. they will have a bargain. It suits Pres. Pratt & his wife to a tee. I took 6:30 P.M. train for Mesa, Arizona.

23 November 1928 • Friday

Am well

Arrived in Mesa, Arizona at 9:22 A.M. I was met by Pres. J Robert Price & counselor John Cunnard of the State Presidency also by James Leseuer of the Temple Presidency The Temple Services had been delayed until my arrival that I might talk to the people so I was taken directly to the Temple and I addressed the meeting [page break] for about 20 minutes. I spent the day at the Temple and the night at Pres David K. Udall’s home

24 November 1928 • Saturday

Mesa, Arizona.

Am well

Temperate weather

I attended the 10: A.M. & 2: P.M. meetings of the Stake Priesthood Convention Conference, a funeral of a little [illegible] yr. old girl, daughter of a Brother Clarence Taylor, and a banquet. social in the evening and spoke at each. After the Social I rode to Phoenix, 18 miles with Pres Robert Price and wife and spent the night at [t]heir home. A busy day. I took dinner at Pres. John Cunnards’.

25 November 1928 • Sunday

Phoenix, Ariz. Mesa.

Am well & happy.

I accompanied Pres Robt. Price to Mesa where we attended forenoon and afternoon meetings. I spoke at each occupying about 35 min at each with good liberty. Attendance large at 10 A.M. meeting 936, at 2 P.M. 1305. or 30% of the stake population. I took dinner at Pres. Hibbard’s home and before taking train ate again at the home of Pres John Cunnard. I ordained John Nash a Patriarch, set apart the Presidency of the High Priests Quorum, two high councilmen, an alternate & others after the meeting. I took 7:05 P.M. Train for Los Angeles. Cal. The day was a strenuous one but I was blessed of the Lord & may his name be praised.

26 November 1928 • Monday

Arrived in Los Angeles from Mesa, Ariz. at 7:20 A.M. [page break]

I took breakfast at the Depot Restaurant and went up stairs in the Station house where there are chairs & tables for writing and wrote up my journal for the time since last Thurs. Prepared my reports &c.

I went up town and attended two shows at a cost to me of 60 cts.

I took 6:05 P.M. train out of Los Angeles for home.

27 November 1928 • Tuesday

I arrived home on 8:40 train. Mother, George, Ray, Oliver & wife & babe met the train with two cars.

George called in home and remained until after 11: P.M. visiting.

28 November 1928 • Wednesday

I spent a busy day in the Temple, Attended my prayer circle meeting before leaving for home.

Spencer & Estella came from Tremonton in the evening.

29 November 1928 • Thursday

Cold, clear, day.

Edna came down from Ogden with a Mr Olsen from Peterson, Weber Co.

They went to the Football game as did Geo. & I. Pres Grant gave me two passes which we used. The U of U beat UAC team 20 to 00. Mother & I took dinner at Nina’s. Mother & I called at Sarahs. I administered a blessing to Hugh who was in bed with the Flu.

30 November 1928 • Friday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual.

About 12: Noon. Pres Clawson called and requested me to go to Boise [page break] I took 11:10 P.M. train for Boise.
