1 October 1928 • Monday
My sciatic Rheumatism which has afflicted me for six months is better. I walk without limping and suffer but little pain, May the Lord be praised. Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. Prof. Ed. P. Kimball entertained us on the New organ & then made a brief but excellent talk. I attended to my work at the Temple as usual and spent the evening at home.
2 October 1928 • Tuesday
Attended a quarterly conference of the Twelve from 9: A.M. until about 5:00 P.M. after which I went home and spent the evening there.
3 October 1928 • Wednesday
I attended Temple meeting at 8:30 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. and attended the meeting of the Twelve & Mission Presidents from 9: to 12:30, then sealed twenty four couples living people and a number of children to parents. Remained at the Temple and attended my prayer circle at 6:30 P.M. I this day bought a new pair of [Frasham?] black high top shoes for 10.00 [page break]

I attended Temple meeting at 8:30 A.M. Attended weekly Council meeting of the Presidency & the Twelve. Attended to the living sealings as usual.
5 October 1928 • Friday
Attended two sessions of the General Semi-annual Conference and the Choir Concert at night. Attended a meeting of Stake Presidencies in the Assembly Hall at 4:15 offered opening prayer.
6 October 1928 • Saturday
Attended the two general sessions of conference and the General Priesthood meeting in the evening. I was the first speaker in the afternoon meeting. I occupied about 17 minutes.
7 October 1928 • Sunday
I attended the two public sessions of conference and the evening session of Sunday School Union. We have had an excellent conference, may the Lord be praised.
8 October 1928 • Monday
I spent most of the day in the Temple, regular ordinance work being there administered.
I took a medical examination at the Salt Lake Clinic which took one hour of my time including the wait, which is usual.
In the evening, Mother and I attended a reception tendered by the First Presidency in Bps. Bldg. [page break]
9 October 1928 • Tuesday
I spent the forenoon at home. Attended missionary meeting at 2: P.M. where 90 missionaries were set apart. I set apart five of them and instructed the company.
I played a game of golf with my three sons, Geo. LeGrand & Oliver after 5: P.P. Spent the evening at home Estella & baby are with us.
10 October 1928 • Wednesday
Am better of my Sciatica, no more lame but have some trouble there yet.
Mother and I went to the Temple as usual for the morning meeting where I always preside when present. I left the temple for a while to attend to some outside business. Took Mother, Nerva, Alice Tate & Marie down to Mamie’s. In the evening I took Mother & Estella to a show. Attended my circle meeting.
11 October 1928 • Thursday
I was the speaker at the Temple meeting. Attended regular weekly council meeting as usual.
A change of weather, turning cold with wind and later rain & Snow. I am getting well of my Sciatica, thanks be to the Lord. I spent 11½ hrs in the Temple.
12 October 1928 • Friday
After attending the morning temple meeting I sat and answered questions for about 45 minutes and at 10: A.M. attended a committee [page break] meeting of about 1½ hrs duration at Pres Clawson’s office.
Attended to my sealing work at the Temple &c. Made preparations for a trip to Montpelier to begin tomorrow morning if the weather permit taking my Franklin Car & Alice & her three sisters Maria, Annie & Estella.
13 October 1928 • Saturday
Mother & her three Sisters <& I> left Salt Lake at 7:00 A.M. in my Franklin Car for Bear Lake. We went via Collinston & McCommon. About 7 miles this side of Georgetown in meeting a car I drove too far from the hard road and the car started to slip in the soft dirt and to save myself & the car from tipping over I s[t]eered down the dugway into a wire fence at the foot. It was quite miraculous that we did not tip over. It will require about $35. to repair the damage done to the car. We were delayed about two hours. Reached Sarah Dunns just before or at dark. They had snow and freezing weather there. Excepting the distance from the main road to Wm’s home about 1½ miles the roads were good. We spent a pleasant visit with Sarah & Wm Dunn & spent the night there. All are well & thankful we are alive. May the Lord be praised for ever. [page break]

Georgetown, Bear Lake, Idaho.
We left Georgetown at 11:30 A.M. going via. Bancroft, Mt Cammon, Preston & Logan, arriving in Salt Lake @ 7:00 P.M. driving 35 & 40 miles per hr.
15 October 1928 • Monday
Mother & I went to the Temple in the early morning as usual. During the day I spent some time getting repairs made on my car. We spent the evening after 8: P.M. at home. We remained at the Temple until the evening work & workers were well under way as we usually do.
16 October 1928 • Tuesday
I went to the Temple at the usual hour and worked at my desk.
Assisted in setting apart two companies of missionaries.
Attended to the sealing of the living, about 12 or 15 couples.

Busy day at Temple.
18 October 1928 • Thursday
I attended a special meeting of the Twelve in the Temple from 8:30 A.M. to 10: A.M. and regular council meeting of the Presidency & Twelve from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and after luncheon met with the Twelve again. Attended to business, &c. Took Mother down to Nerva’s and played golf with my Son George from 5: to 6: P.M. Mother and I went back to the Temple in the evening. All usually well. [page break]

Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual. We left Salt Lake for Tremonton in our Franklin, Nina & two children & Delpha Card at about 5:00 P.M. Called at Edna’s for a few moments on the way and arrived in Tremonton at about 8:30 P.M. Where we spent the night.
20 October 1928 • Saturday
Tremonton, Utah.
I left Tremonton in my car at abt 8:30 A.M. and arrived in Malad at about 9:35 A.M. I went to Wm Richards home where I was entertained during my stay in Malad. Talked over with Pres. Richards the matter of a proposed stake Presidency’s reorganization. I attended 10: A.M. Priesthood Convention-Quarterly Stake Conference and was one of the speakers. At the close of this meeting a meeting of the Leading men of the Stake was held 23 in number. I received written expression from them as to their choice for a Presidency. The three, later chosen, were clearly indicated by these slips 28 in number.
Attended 2: P.M. CC meeting I was one of the Speakers. We spent much time counseling together between meetings and in the evening attended a social for the leading officers of the Stake and companions
21 October 1928 • Sunday
Malad, Utah.
I attended 10: A.M. & 2: P.M. Conference meetings and spoke at each. Met the H. Council and presented business to them. [page break] I presented the business of the reorganization of the Stake Presidency, the Malad 2nd ward Bishoprics &c After the 2: P.M. Meeting I set apart the officers sustained, and left for home at 5:05 P.M. distance 139 miles. Called at Tremonton & got the folks and spent a half hour with Estella & Ray and reached home at 10: P.M. O.K.
22 October 1928 • Monday
I attended to my duties at the temple as usual. Had my car greased & oil changed, milage 41997. Mother & I bought Six theater tickets from 27th Ward, $6.00 and took Hugh & Sarah and my sister Nerva & Alice’s sister Annie to the Show at night. After the theater as we turned the corner of 1st So. and State going west a man stepped in front of our car and was struck and lifted up into the air and thrown out to one side. He got up and swung his arms & seemed to be unhurt. I think it was purely carelessness on his part.
23 October 1928 • Tuesday
I took Hugh J. Cannon down to the golf course and played him a game of golf, paying the expenses & [Loaning?] him clubs, balls, &c. It was his first game of golf and made it in 79. I spent part of the day at the temple working at my desk.
Spent the evening at home. Visited & administered to Wilford Kimball at Hospital.
24 October 1928 • Wednesday
Am almost well of my lameness, sciatica, May the Lord be praised, [page break] Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual. I sealed about twelve couples. Attended meeting at 8:30 as usual. and my circle in the evening. I did not go out of the Temple from 8:10 A.M. until after 10:30 P.M. I prepared a statement to send out to members of the family showing what each had contributed or done in Endowment work. &c.
25 October 1928 • Thursday
I was in meeting with the Twelve from 8:30 to 10: A.M. and with the Council of the Presidency & Twelve from 10: A.M. until about 2: P.M., then continued the meeting of the Twelve. I received the appointment to Lethbridge Stake, Canada for Nov. 3 & 4.
I remained at the Temple until about 7:30 P.M. Spent the remainder of the evening at home. Oliver & Marie & Geo. F. Jr called on us in the evening.
26 October 1928 • Friday
Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual and remained until after noon. We went home and made ready to leave for Cornish, thence tomorrow to Grace, Bannock stake, Idaho to fill my appointment.
Mother, Geo. F. Jr. Mamie, her two smallest children & I left in my car for Cornish @ about 5: P.M. and went to Cornish where we spent the night at Ruby’s.
27 October 1928 • Saturday
Cornish, Utah.
Am well.
My son George & I continued on to Grace, Idaho, distance 58 miles, & [page break] then attended Bannock Stake Conference. This is Priesthood Convention quarterly conference. We held our regular meetings, and between times reorganized the Stake Presidency and Central Ward Bishopric.
28 October 1928 • Sunday
Grace, Bannock Stake.
Attended the meetings of the Convention Conference & Spoke at each Sustained and ordained & set apt. the officers newly chosen.
My Son George & I left Grace at 3:45 P.M. and drove 58 miles to Cornish arriving at 6: P.M. We took supper and with the other folks left for home at 6:30 P.M. arrived in Salt Lake at 10: P.M. No accident or mishap in all the trip.
29 October 1928 • Monday
Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. We attended the funeral services of Ann Groesbeck in the 18th ward & I was one of the Speakers. We also called at the home before the funeral service. Attended to our work at the Temple as usual A busy day. We went to the Wilks’ Theater in the evening as guests of LeGrand & Ina.
30 October 1928 • Tuesday
I spent some time in the Temple and some time at the Garage having repairs made on my car. After 4 o’clock I played golf with my son George. We played a 9 hole game in 1:10 one hour & ten minutes. My score 48. His 51. [page break] We, Mother & I called on Oliver & Marie after 6:30 P.M. and at 8:30 attended a directors meeting of the R. M. Co, at our home, of about 3 hrs duration
31 October 1928 • Wednesday
I issued a number of checks in payment of bills rendered.
Mother and I went to the Temple where I presided at the Temple as usual and worked at my desk until time to take train 12:30 for Lethbridge, Canada.
Elder O. F. Whitney joined me at the Depot, he going to Alberta Stake. We found Sister Allen aboard the train on her way to Lethbridge, representing the Reliefsocieties. I spent the afternoon and early evening reading. I finished Pres. Leo Muirs Book Semiphore.
