I took 7:55 train for Price Arriving there about 1:20 P.M. Attended afternoon meeting and evening social.
2 October 1927 • Sunday
Price, Utah.
Attended a meeting of the Stake Presidency at Heiner at 9:00 A.M.
I spoke at the morning & afternoon meetings meeting and got train at 5:15 P.M. for home, arriving home about 11:00 P.M.
3 October 1927 • Monday
All usually well I played a game of golph with my sons George & LeGrand. Attended to some business at the temple. George & I went to the State Fair in the afternoon. In the evening, with my car, Mother & I took her three Sisters home they having stayed [page break] the day at our home quilting. We afterward called at our Daughter Nerva’s and took her, Thelma & Alice to a party between 5th & 6th So., 2nd West & left them there.
4 October 1927 • Tuesday
I attended Temple meeting at 8:25 A.M. and from 9:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. was in session with other members of the Twelve ten in all.
5 October 1927 • Wednesday
Attended Temple meeting at 8:25 A.M. and a meeting of Mission Presidents with the Twelve & Seventy from 9:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. I solemnized the marriage of my grand daughter Alice Elizabeth Tate to Frank A. Jentzisch, also the marriage of Charles Felts daughter to [blank].
Some of the thoughts had in the Missionary meeting.
1. Advantage of hearing what other Presidents are doing
2. Exchange of ideas.
3. Use of Local saints.
a. Short termed missions
b. Acquire the habit of doing missionary work

In the evening I attended my Circle meeting and later the wedding reception of my grand daughter Alice Elizabeth Tate.
6 October 1927 • Thursday
I attended my Temple meeting & weekly Council meeting.
I obtained permission of the First Presidency [page break] to have Bro. Joseph S. Clark blessed with the sealing power that he might assist us in the Sealing room. I went with Bro. Clark to the Presidents office where he was blessed & set apart to do any work in the Temple to which he might be assigned & particularly to do sealing work.
7 October 1927 • Friday
I attended General Semi-Annual Conference of the Church in the Large Tabernacle in forenoon and afternoon. The minutes are kept in the Church, I need not record the details in my journal.
8 October 1927 • Saturday
I attended the morning and afternoon sessions of the General Conference and General Priesthood meeting in the evening and later went to the Liverpool Reunion in the 2nd Ward chapel.
9 October 1927 • Sunday
I attended the forenoon and afternoon sessions at the Gen. Conference in the Large Tabernacle, and the S.S.U. Conference at night in same place. I was one of the Speakers in the forenoon Session and occupied about 12 min. Subject, “Salvation.”
10 October 1927 • Monday
I attended a committee meeting from the Richards Family Surname Association, 13:00 to 3:30 P.M. I played a 9 hole game of Golph with my sons George & LeGrand in the early morning. Spent some time at the Temple. Had some work done on my car &c.

Fine weather
I attended to my duties at the Temple. Attended a missionary meeting and I set apart nine short termed missionaries. In the evening Mother & I attended a dinner party at Hotel Utah given by Pres. Chas. W. Nibley. This is Our Son Ray’s birth day anniversary the 17th.
12 October 1927 • Wednesday
I have a cold.
I attended to my duties as usual at the Temple. Attended circle, &c
13 October 1927 • Thursday
I attended to my duties at the Temple except that I was in weekly Council Meeting from 10: A.M. to about 2: P.M.
14 October 1927 • Friday
I attended to my regular work at the Temple and at about 10: P.M. went to the depo & took train for St. Anthony.
15 October 1927 • Saturday
I arrived at St. Anthony at about 11: P.M. I was met at the Depo by Pres. Clington of the Stake Presidency and we went to the Stake Tabernacle where I attended the meetings of the Yellowstone Stake Conference. [I] spoke at both forenoon and afternoon meetings and attended a meeting of the Stake Presidency of 3 hrs duration in the evening. I stayed at night at the home of Pres White.
16 October 1927 • Sunday
I attended and spoke at both meetings of the Conference; attended to ordinations &c Bro Lowe, Geo. H; was released from the position of [page break] first counselor in the Stake Presidency and Pres [blank] Spires was chosen to succeed him. I took 5:40 P.M. train for home.
17 October 1927 • Monday
I attended to important business at the Temple and Ch. Offices Building. Played Golph with George & LeGrand.
18 October 1927 • Tuesday
I set apart six lady missionaries, attended special meeting of the Twelve at Ch. Off. Building. S.S. outlines were considered.
Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual.
19 October 1927 • Wednesday
I made arrangements to leave to-morrow morning with Mother to attend the dedication of the Temple
Attended to the Sealings of eleven couples, Attended Temple meeting and other temple work. Attended Circle Meeting.
Edna came from Ogden on 8:40 P.M. train.
20 October 1927 • Thursday
Mother and I with other General Authorities of the Church and their wives occupying two pullman cars left for Mesa Arizona to attend the Temple dedication. We took train at about 8:30 A.M. and had a pleasant ride in comfort the whole day & night.
21 October 1927 • Friday
We arrived in Los Angeles at 8:30 A.M. to-day. We were met at the train by delegation from the two Stakes & the [page break] California mission. By the Counting of the Los Angeles Stake Authorities we, about 50 in all were taken in two large busses through the business center of the City and out to the Beach at Santa Monica, thence to Hollywood, where at the expense of the California Mission we were banqueted and by the Hollywood Stake Authorities we were taken to the Chinese Theater where we saw the photo Play “The King of Kings.”
We left Los Angeles at 6:30 for Mesa.
22 October 1927 • Saturday
We arrived in Phoenix at about 9: A.M. and a part of the Company was detrained here. Sister R. & I went to stay at the home of John H. Udalls, Phoenix.
That afternoon & part of the forenoon We spent at the Temple. We returned to Mesa Phoenix to sleep.
23 October 1927 • Sunday
Mother & I attended the three Sessions of dedication. I was one of the Speakers in the first and 10th or last sessions.
Three sessions held on Sunday, Monday & Tuesday & one on Wednesday.
We had a baptismal service Wed. 2 P.M.
26 October 1927 • Wednesday
We finished the dedication services in the forenoon. Had baptismal in the afternoon. Also had practice of workers, a rehearsal.
27 October 1927 • Thursday
Mesa, Arizona.
We took the first Company of 101 through the Temple between 8: A.M. & 9:30 P.M.
28 October 1927 • Friday
We continued the temple work [page break] and took 7: P.M. train for Los Angeles.
29 October 1927 • Saturday
Arrived from Mesa, Ariz. at 7:30 A.M. We went to the De Mar Hotel, where we spent the forenoon. Alice’s Sister Anna in answer to a phone call, came to the Hotel & spent several hours. We then went to a show and she took car for her staying quarters & Alice & I took [illegible]:05 P.M. train for home.
30 October 1927 • Sunday
All day on train until 8:30 at night. We were met by my sons Geo. & Ray with auto. At home we learned that a Mr. Green, son in Law of J. G. Ahlstrom of St. Johns, had met death by coming in collision with a car driven by our Son Oliver. No blame attached to the latter.
31 October 1927 • Monday
Weather cold.
This early morning Ina J. A. Richards was taken to the Hospital where she had a miscarriage. I administered to her a blessing. I played a game of golph with my son George in the afternoon. Spent some time at the Temple considering mail &c. Took Mother & Lucena down to Mamies & later brought them home. &c
