Home.

My cold no better.

I went to the temple where I spent most of the forenoon. At about 11:00 A.M. I went home & got Mother & Lucena and took them down to Mamie’s in Sugar House. We took dinner with Mamie and I took Mother, Ina, Nina and Mamie to see the “Dark Angel.” Mother & I having complimentary tickets for the Pantages, we took Rega & Lucena to that play house.

2 February 1926 • Tuesday

I had a tough night and feel rocky this A.M.

I took my car and Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. I presided at the 8:30 meeting as usual. Remained until 4: P.M. [page break]

3 February 1926 • Wednesday

I went to the Temple, feeling much improved, where I spent the day of about eleven hours. Sealed 15 couples living & a number of children & some dead couples, i.e. mixed.

4 February 1926 • Thursday

Am feeling better of my cold &c

Went to the Temple as usual and at 10:00 A.M. attended weekly Council Meeting until about 2:00 P.M. Mother and I went down to Sugar House and Forest Dale & saw Sister Babbit and Sister Mary Clark and I administered to them. Both are Temple Workers and both ill. We called and saw our daughter Nina and later called on Edna on So. Temple. Having a car makes it possible to do what was impossible with us before getting a car.

5 February 1926 • Friday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual in the early morning. I spent a busy day at the Temple as usual leaving for home about 5: P.M. Made a trip to Sugar House.

6 February 1926 • Saturday

My Son LeGrand’s birthday, the 40th. I wrote to my son LeGrand. Spent part of the day at the temple and part at home Studying &c &c.

7 February 1926 • Sunday

I attended S. School, 2: P.M. Sacramental meeting and the evening meeting in the 27th ward. I took my folks down to Nerva’s Sugar House, to dinner on her initiative. [page break]

Home.

All pretty well.

My cold some better.

This is a beautiful day, mild and dry pavements. Went down town with Mother & Lucena and we called at Nervas on our way back and brought her up to Lucena’s where the folks are visiting to-day. I went to the Temple and was busy until after 6:00 P.M. Spent the evening at home.

9 February 1926 • Tuesday

I went to the Temple in the early morning as usual. Was out of the temple for two or three hours. Attended U.I.V. Co Director’s meeting and Stockholders meeting. Had some repairs made on Auto. Mother & I left for home about 6:30 and spent the evening at home. I retired early. I evidently took cold in my neck during the day for I had pains in the neck during the night and in the morning my neck was stiff and painful.

10 February 1926 • Wednesday

Beautiful day.

I have a still neck and other symptoms of Flu.

We went to the Temple as usual and I did the speaking at the morning meeting. I sealed six couples and six children in the Same company. As an accommodation to Rega, I signed a note with him for $350.00 at the U.S. Nat Bk. payable in three months.

I attended the H.J.G. & Co. Directors meeting. Attended to some business at the Genealogical Society. Attended my circle meeting in the evening. [page break]

11 February 1926 • Thursday

I attended Temple meeting as usual and the weekly Council meeting of the Presidency & the Twelve from 10: A.M. to 1:30 P.M. I formed a company of 12, my wife and daughters and took them to the Wilks to see (“Silence”) They enjoyed it. I spent the evening at home.

12 February 1926 • Friday

Lincoln’s birthday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Returned home about 6:30. Later took train for Idaho Falls. I still have some lameness in my neck and a touch of Rheumatics in my left leg. Others well

13 February 1926 • Saturday

I arrived in Idaho Falls at 9:00 A.M. Was met by Pres. Caine of the Stake Presidency and taken to the Stake House where I met the Presidency and with them was in a meeting for about 40 minutes. At 10 A.M. we attended the priesthood Convention in connection with the Quarterly Conference I made a talk for about 30 minutes. At 2:00 P.M. we held Stake Priesthood meeting while the Sisters were in session. I spoke at this meeting. From 7 until 10 o’clock P.M. I was in meeting with the Stake Presidency. A number of changes are being made out it requires much counseling together. After 10 P.M. we called in the social for a few minutes. While in Idaho Falls I stayed with Pres. Caine & family.

14 February 1926 • Sunday

At 9:00 A.M. I met with the S. Presidency and H. Council. At 10:00 A.M. I met with the Conference and occupied [page break] about 45 minutes with excellent liberty. Subject: The interest the Sisters should take in the Priesthood and those who hold the Priesthood. What it means to them. Lesser Priesthood and Ministry of the Church, Vitalization of quorums.

At the Afternoon there were present 1085 I occupied 40 min. Subject: Disappointments which could have been averted, the Roberts case & the Huntington case sited; Patriarchal blessings. Advised the people to patronize the Patriarch. So live & labor as to be satisfied in the end of life. Temple vs. Civil marriages.

After meeting I ordained one Bishop (Jas. Laird), ordained five high priests, Set apart the Bishopric of the Idaho Falls 1st Ward and five presidents of Seventy & a Counselor in 2nd Ward Bishopric. I set apart the counselors in the H. Priests Presidency & five H. Councilors. A Strenuous day. I took 7:05 P.M. train for home.

15 February 1926 • Monday

I arrived in S. Lake from I. Falls at 7:00 A.M. Cleaned up my car and myself & went to the Temple where I spent several hours at my desk answering correspondence &c. Spent the evening at home. Wrote to Hugh & Sarah

16 February 1926 • Tuesday

Snowed all day.

Mother & I went to the Temple in the Morning as usual. We went with auto to Farmington and attended Mary Alice Richards Stevenson’s funeral service. I was the concluding Speaker. My Sister Nerva, Freds wife Carlie and Aunt Annie Steed went and returned with us. Jas. Clark rode up but remained there. Our Franklin behaved well in the Storm & Snow. We returned to the Temple to work. We got home about 8:00 P.M. [page break]

17 February 1926 • Wednesday

Home.

Deep snow & Still Snowing. Some wind which is needed to drift the snow into the ravines as reservoirs.

Mother & I took the 7:30 street car to the Temple, on account of the deep snow. We saw several stalled cars on the road This is much needed storm, a boon and blessing to the country.

Axil A Madsen was the Speaker at the Temple meeting and Mrs Dr Payes Sang, “Not understood.”

I sealed thirteen living couples and a number of children to parents and was otherwise occupied putting in about twelve hours in the Temple. Set apart two workers Bro. Weenig a proxy and Paul Van Nordek proofreader. Attended circle meeting in the evening.

Home.

Deep snow and a very cold night last.

Mother & I went to the temple in our Franklin Car & had no difficulty.

I registered $30.00 to Oliver, three ten dollar bills.

Attended weekly Council meeting of the First Presidency & the Twelve from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

Alice & I left the Temple soon after 5:00 P.M. Did some shopping and went to Sugar House, called at Nina’s & Mamie’s We took Hyrum & Estella Lee with us home, i.e. to their home in Sugarhouse. I took Mother, Lucena, Sister Gibbs and some of their lady friends down to Whitney hall in the evening and later went and brought them home.

Cold night last but moderated with the [page break] rising sun.

I took my satchel with me to the temple in the morning and later took 12:45 P.M. O.S.L train for Arimo, Idaho. Was met at depot by Bp. Lucian C. Farr Jr., and taken to his home where I made my headquarters while in town. No meeting at night.

20 February 1926 • Saturday

Arimo Home.

Stormy, light snowfall.

I attended 10:00 A.M & 2:00 P.M. meetings of the Stake Conference, Priesthood convention and took the parts assigned to me. After the afternoon priesthood at which there were 99 in attendance and where I addressed for about 45 minutes I was taken with a violent headache followed with inclination to chill. As soon as I got home (to the Bps) I lay down had a hot water bottle put to my feet, took a drink of hot lemonade and unsetled through the night with a splitting headache, fever and nautia. No night meetings held

21 February 1926 • Sunday

Arimo, Idaho.

Stormy day.

I had a horrible night last night and this morning did not feel able to sit through a meeting so I remained at the Bps home lying on the couch. As I was not able to attend and minister at the afternoon meeting I took the 1:30 P.M. train for home. The Pres. of the Stake & counciler & the Bp. Administered to me before I left the Bp’s home. I stood the trip home well, feeling better when I got home than when I left Arimo.

I made some repairs about the house and at 1:00 P.M. Sister Richards and I went to the 27th ward Reunion which lasted until 4:00 P.M. Quite a nice affair including a banquet. We later went to the Temple where we spent an hour or so and later in the evening went to the American.

23 February 1926 • Tuesday

All well.

Snowing

This is the 65th anniversary of my birth day. Mother & I went to the temple as usual where I had a busy day until about 4:00 P.M. when we left the Temple and made some calls upon our friends and family members. We called upon Aunt Phoebe Peart at 302 Center St. She has not been to her work at the Temple for months on acc’t of her illness. We found her up and dressed but poorly. We next called on Ina who has been ill for a few days. She is feeling better again.

After 9:00 o’clock, the members of my family here in the City excepting Geo L. Tate who is ill, Ina, same cause & Chas whose work was crowding him, Called and remained until a late hour. We played games, had radio music & refreshments. Cut the birthday cake. Had read, written sentiments of love & esteem from different members of the family, and I spoke to them for a short time. Home.

I am fairly well. Some trouble yet in my neck and face. It snowed some.

We went to the temple as usual. Pres. Clawson was the Speaker at the morning meeting, on my invitation. I sealed fifteen or sixteen couples of living and some couples, one of which was living and a number of children to parents.

I wrote Oliver and registered it with $30.00 to Oliver in Germany. Attended my Circle Meeting &c.

25 February 1926 • Thursday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual except that I was out awhile. Mother and I went up to the hospital and called on Sister Edith Smith and Sister Moroni England.

I called at the Capitol Building and got my license & license plates for 1926. No. 42,451.

I went to the dentist and had a tooth treated. At 8:00 P.M. Sis. R. & I met a number of friends at Dr Parks and we were entertained with a very instructive lecture and views of places prominent in Church history.

26 February 1926 • Friday

I went to the Temple as usual in the early morning where I attended to my duties. In the afternoon Mother and I went down to the County Infirmary and I there administered to Sisters Clara Grimsly and Cora Christensen. We called and saw Sister Edna L. Smith who met [page break] with a serious if not fatal accident, having fallen & stricken fatally her head. We also called & saw Sister Campbell who has a sick husband.

I gave instructions to Recorder & Door keepers to not go about in their shirt sleeves or with a tooth pick in their mouths, or to eat in the presence of others not in the dining room.

27 February 1926 • Saturday

I took 6:00 A.M. Electric train for Preston arriving there at 11:00 A.M. I went to the Priesthood Convention meeting and took part there addressing the meeting. I also addressed the Stake Priesthood in the afternoon. I stayed with my nephew Lynn Richards & wife Lucile Saturday night.

28 February 1926 • Sunday

Preston, Idaho.

Beautiful day.

Am well.

Attended and spoke at the 10:00 A.M. and the 1:00 P.M. Conference meetings held in the Opera House, attendance 800 & 945 respectively. Had good help from the Lord. I got 3:00 P.M. Electric train for home, arriving in Salt Lake at 7:40 P.M. I was met at the Station by Mother, Ray, Nina & her children. We took the latter home and called on Clarence and Mamie & children. Ray went with me to the Station Saturday and drove the Franklin home. He drove it, with the folks, to meet me & where we went. He is a good driver.
