Mother and I arrived in Memphis at 7:45 A.M. and we were met at the Station by an Elder Decker from Snowflake Ariz. who had gone to this station to meet some one else but whom he did not meet. Elder Decker knew that we were expected and that Pres. Callis had gone to the other Station to meet us and though Elder Decker did not know us, when he saw us he thought it might be us he thought it might be us and enquired. We were glad and thankful to the Lord that we were met thus and escorted to the Hotel Claridge where Pres. Callis was requested. After breakfasting at the hotel we went for a walk & visited the Peabody Hotel the site of which is said to be the place where Pres. Woodruff as a Priest commenced his ministry. A local brother Mitchem with his Ford took us for a ride and we had three punctures. We saw through the Ford assembling works where 1200 people are employed and where 325 cars are turned out daily. We took dinner with a Sister Emma Pristly.

Faith, repentance, baptism, reception of the Ho Ghost & going on to perfection adding virtue, knowledge, patience, &c. I had good liberty & spoke deliberately. We had luncheon served at the meeting house. A Bro. Williams & family fed Alice, Bro Callis & me. There were present 150.
At the 2:30 meeting the attendance was 153. I was last speaker and occupied 50 min. Joseph Smith’s works prove him a Divinely inspired prophet. History repeats itself. Pre-existence, what it teaches us &c. I had good liberty, praise the Lord.

Four elders did most of the work of building. $750. was received as insurance on former Chapel which was burned down some years ago supposedly incendiaryism.
The Lord surely blessed me in my ministration these two days in the six public talks of about 50 minutes each.
After the meeting Pres Callis, my wife & I rode 19 miles to the town of Senatobia on the railway with a Non member, Wallace Ivy from Memphis; he and Elder Decker went on in the Ford car to Memphis.

At the 2:30 meeting I was the concluding speaker and occupied with good liberty 50 minutes. Subject Natures testimony of Gods existence and his love. Jos. Smith’s accomplishments an evidence of his Divine Call & guidance. By their fruits ye shall know them. What was accomplished in Brigham’s day evidence him a Divinely inspired leader, Same with those who have succeeded to the Presidency The part played by other leaders and by the people.
The evening service was one of dedication. The Chapel cost $1400.00 plus the labor and is sufficiently commodious. I told Pres. Callis that I thought he and Pres Bennion ought each to speak about 20 minutes but they overruled me and after the opening exercises and a brief report of the building I was introduced and I occupied about 60 minutes with deliberation & freedom. A number of investigators were present. I spoke upon the Subject of the Gospel defined. The audience sat almost as if spellbound all the way through and at the conclusion I offered the Dedicatory prayer. Surely the Lord helped me even more This time even more, I think than ordinary. I blessed a baby <Geo Clarence Shaw> and administered to a Sister Pertle, assisted of course, by Pres. Callis. This has been a glorious day. Regretted that thousands of good people were permitting themselves to be misled and they would surely meet with disappointment. The Lord helped me this day. I had good liberty all the way through. I followed Elder Bowman on Authority, Read Matt 28:— Christ’s commission to his disciples. Read D.&C. 13. Told of restoration of the Priesthood. Which would you rather. If we had no claim to authority from John & Peter, James & John we would have as much as other denominations have. Would you not rather take the sure case. Atlanta, Georgia
I have some cold.
Stormy day.
I spent the day at the Mission Home except that I went down town in an auto to see proofs of photos taken yesterday for the papers. We had a splendid Thanksgiving dinner cooked by Sister Callis. Eighteen of us sat at the Table at once. Pres. Callis on behalf of the Mission made me a present of a soft leather backed bible with index, concordance and the Ready Reference bound up with it. This book sells for $5.00. I was in need of this book. While in Independence on my way out Pres. Bennion presented me with a combination Book of Mormon, D & Cov. & P of G. Price. These two books are a good match and constitute the Standard Church works with which I am greatly pleased.
Mother, Sis. Callis and others went to a show. I sat up & worked & read scripture until after eleven o’clock.
27 November 1925 • Friday

28 November 1925 • Saturday
Atlanta, Ga.
I have a severe cold.
I spoke at three public conference meetings and at a missionary meeting. At the morning meeting I occupied about 45 min. Subject: The Gospel is a blessing to us above price The testimony accompanying it, likewise. The Gospel makes us one and alike. God so loved the world quoted; also, I lay down my life for the sheep. Love, Sacrifice & [page break] Service of the highest type. We are given the command to love God with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves. I fear none keeping these commands what manner of men & women we would be & comments.
At the afternoon meeting I occupied 55 min. which met with good favor. The main topic was the evil effects of bearing false witness, tale bearing, &c.
Except ye are one ye are not mine. The Savior our exemplar. Read about the woman who was caught in the act & forgiven of the Savior.
At the evening meeting I spoke on marriage, rearing children, salvation & work for the dead, occupying 45 minutes. It seemed to take well. Many said they enjoyed it. A letter came from Estella.
29 November 1925 • Sunday
Atlanta, Ga.
My cold is still on but thus far no cough to speak of.
I attended the 11 A.M. dedicatory services and after Pres. Callis made a 5 min report & singing, I spoke for about 50 min. Subject: The Earth was made for man, the earth at first was in one place. In the days of Peleg the earth was divided. God who made the earth knew what he was about when he divided it. Eden or Adam on diamon was on this continent. Pioneers ancient Israel, Jaredites, Nephites, Columbus, Pilgrim fathers, L.D. Saints. We are here in a land of promise prepared for us with a gov[ern]ment got inspired which we appreciate. The Constitution &c. &c. I had tolerable freedom. A song was sung & I offered a prayer of dedication of 20 min duration. A number of people spoke of the talk & prayer as being beautiful &c. [page break] I feel very thankful for the help the Lord gave me as I had been advertised so widely. The house was packed with extra seats and all filled & some people were standing in the rear.
After the meeting a photograph was taken of the saints and missionaries and luncheon was served in the basement room of the Chapel.
At the 3:00 P.M. meeting, I was the concluding speaker and occupied 35 or 40 min. Consideration of Mormonism vs. Atheism & Infidelity & Sectarianism, under the heads Atheism & Mormonism. If we were found to be wrong we would still be as well off they &c. First principles taught. I had good liberty.
At the evening meeting I occupied about 45 minutes with good freedom and many people after meeting told me they were pleased with my talk. I reminded the strangers of the fact that the scriptures predict a falling away, history tells of such a condition. The scriptures tell us of a restoration. That restoration has come. We are the witnesses. We affirm these things. Those who oppose these things [illegible]. It is a satisfaction to have been right, a disappointment to have been wrong. Even so it will be in the end. Should we be mistaken we will still be as well off as they, but we are not mistaken; their disappointment will be great but they will be judged according to the light they have.
This finishes a very successful Conference. I have addressed 24 public conference meetings since coming into this mission; and have spoken at a number of missionary meetings, Save in their work & prayer [illegible] to Elder. [page break] I have administered to a number of people.
