Mother & I went to the Temple as usual before 8:00 A.M. and had a busy day. Wrote to my daughter in Evening after my Circle meeting.

2 December 1926 • Thursday

Attended weekly Council meeting and later met with members of the Twelve. Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual.

3 December 1926 • Friday

Home.

Weather fine

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Spent the evening at home. Had radio man repairing my radio Set. I took 11:10 P.M. train for Minicdoka, thence to Malta.

4 December 1926 • Saturday

Arrived at Minidoka at about 6:30 A.M. and after an hour’s wait, Isaac J. Neddo Jr. of the Stake Presidency of Raft River Stake & a Bro. Shaw, with the latter’s car came and took me to Malta where the conference was to be held. We arrived in comfort before the meeting commenced.

I attended and spoke at both the forenoon and afternoon meetings & attended a meeting of the Stake Presidency in the evening.

At the morning meeting I occupied 40 min. Text “Feed my Sheep.” The Lord would have an efficient ministry What constitutes a satisfactory minister,

At the afternoon meeting I occupied 40 min. Pre-existence as a fundamental of the Gospel & History Repeats itself.

5 December 1926 • Sunday

Malta. Raft River Stake.

Am well

I occupied 50 min. Text. Incentive A. Hope of Reward. B. Fear of Punishment. How to erase from the screen of our lives the undesirable things we have thought, said or done. Repentance is the Key. At the afternoon meeting I occupied 50 minutes. Text, “Come out of her O ye my people” ye are the Salt of the Earth. We should be an example and set the fashions for the world, ex. In marrying and in the right way, avoiding those things which contribute to disappointment and divorce; and as husband & wife do our duty in the bearing of children.

I set apart Stake clerk, a High Counselor, the Bishopric of Almo ward and Pres of the 193 Quo. of Seventy. Pres Elisen took me to Rupert in his Ford Coupe. His daughter accompanied us. I got train for home at about 7:20 P.M.

6 December 1926 • Monday

I arrived in Salt Lake City at 7: o’clock this morning. I spent part of the day at the Shop with my car and in shopping with Mother, and spent some time at the temple. Spent the evening at home Retired at 11:20 P.M.

7 December 1926 • Tuesday

I went to the Temple as usual Mother and I spent an hour [page break] with Oliver & Marie going out to see a house they are about to bargain fore. Later Alice & I went down to 945 Princeton Ave. and called on Sister Edith Smith one of our Temple workers who has been laid up for eleven months with a fractured hip bone. We called on Lucena and on Nerva while out. In the evening, Edna and Estella called for Mother and me and we went down to Nina’s in Sugar House and Mamie came over and we had a nice visit.

8 December 1926 • Wednesday

It rained last night and turned cold and some snow fell. It is a cold raw morning.

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. Ray rides down with us to the L.D.S. School and he is due there at 7:50 so we get to the temple about 7:50 each morning. Our car comes in handy.

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Attended a committee meeting of the Richards family consisting of F. S., C. C., & S. L. Richards and myself, self constituted. S. L. & I were appointed to arrange with the Genealogical Society to make a survey of the Richards Family record and report to us. We made this arrangement. Attended my Circle meeting in the evening.

9 December 1926 • Thursday

Attended temple meeting at 8:15 A.M. and the Weekly Council meeting at 10:00 A.M. the latter continued until [page break] about 5:00 P.M. We had under consideration a revision of the Temple ordinances. The question of Retribution took considerable time. I had battery put in charge.

Between 7 & 9:30 Mother & I went to the Paramount. We returned to the Temple and I sealed two couples from Delta.

10 December 1926 • Friday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. Our Son Ray L. has to be in School at the L.D.S. at 7:50 A.M. and we bring him down in our Auto so that we are usually in the temple before 8:00 A.M. Four days a week we give endowments and three days, T. W. T. & F. we hold a 30 min. meeting in the Assembly room of the Temple annex Commencing at 8:30 sharp. The doors close at 8:25 and at that time the organ plays while the people from the Recorders room assemble. I preside at all these meetings when present as a rule. This day I spent the time between 2 & 5 o’clock in a meeting of the Twelve in the Temple In the evening Mother & I having complimentary tickets went to the Salt Lake Theater and saw “Barbary Worth” presented by the L.D.S. Students.

11 December 1926 • Saturday

Mother, Ray & I went to Z.C.M.I. where I got a suit for myself and a suit for Ray. Yesterday I bought a suit for Oliver. I had some repairs made on my car and the battery newly charged was installed, so that my [page break] car is in apple pie condition. Mother & I went down to Nerva’s and brought her up town to do shopping. I spent some time at the Temple working at my desk. Mother’s Cold on otherwise we are all well.

In the evening I took my car and with me. Mother & Edna and went down to my daughter Lucena’s, 13th South. She is quite indisposed, and on account of their finances they were feeling badly.

12 December 1926 • Sunday

Home.

Stormy & Snow.

I did some studying in the morning, after the morning work was done. Mother and I attended the funeral services of the grand daughter of Pres. Grant, the daughter of Robert Judd, held in the Ensign Ward house at 12:30. Elders Widtsoe & S. L. Richards were the Speakers. We took dinner with Estella and Spencer and later visited at Nina’s, Mamie’s and Lucena’s. Edna was with us. I heard Adam Bennion’s address over the radio and a part of the Tabernacle services.

13 December 1926 • Monday

Very cold. I spent some time at the temple answering correspondence &c Did some shopping and spent the evening at home.

14 December 1926 • Tuesday

Home.

Snow & ice on the ground and freezing weather. [page break]

Mother & I went to the Temple before 8:00 A.M. as usual. I attended to my temple work and assisted in setting apart and instructing a company of missionaries.

I called on the President. (Grant) and received authorization to give to each of our temple workers the usual amount of $10.00 for Christmas. I signed a note of renewal with my son Rega Card of a $250.00 note at the bank for 3 months. Spent the evening at home.

15 December 1926 • Wednesday

Home.

Very cold with snow & ice on ground.

Mother & I were at the temple as usual before 8: o’clock. Attended to the sealings of living couples. [blank] in number. Mother and I on invitation of Clarence and Mamie took dinner with them at Hotel Utah at 12: noon. This is the eleventh anniversary of their marriage date. Did some shopping and attended my Circle meeting. Spent the later evening at home.

16 December 1926 • Thursday

Attended to my regular duties at the Temple as usual. Attended a meeting of the Twelve from 9 to 10 o’clock and a meeting of the Presidency and Twelve from 10 A.M. to about 3 P.M. This was a very important meeting. At this meeting the Report of the committee of apostles on Temple ordinances was accepted with a few minor Changes. This necessitate the writing of the ceremonies for all the Temples. It is hoped to have these ready [page break] for the beginning of the New Year. Mother & I took Clarence & Mamie with us to the show in the evening.

17 December 1926 • Friday

Mother & I attended to our duties at the Temple as usual.

I attended a director’s meeting of the Richards’ Motor Co.

Mother & I spent an hour or two shopping for Christmas. I took 11:30 P.M. train for Rexburg.

18 December 1926 • Saturday

Arrived in Rexburg at 10:45 A.M. Was met by Pres. Arthur Porter and taken to Conference. I occupied 40 minutes. Subject: History Repeats Itself. Two great incentives, viz: the hope of reward and the fear of punishment

At afternoon Session, I occupied 35 minutes Subject: Joseph Smith, His works prove him a prophet.

19 December 1926 • Sunday

Rexburg, Ida.

Am well

Much snow

I attended the Conference meetings of the Fremont Stake & spoke at each meeting At the Morning meeting I occupied 43 minutes, Subject: Jos Smith, “his prophecies, & what others say of him.[”] In the afternoon meeting I occupied about 40 minutes, Subject: Jesus Christ and Christmas Birthdays & presents. Lace Gifts. I took 6:02 P.M. train for home. I ordained & set apart a number of officers. Stayed at the home of Pres Geo. S. Romney.

20 December 1926 • Monday

Arrived in Salt Lake at 8:30 late. [page break]

I assisted Mother with Xmas shopping. Called on my daughters Nerva & Lucena. In the evening Mother & I attended the pagent, “Elijah” in the 20th ward.

21 December 1926 • Tuesday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. We had eight Companies. We would have had another but that the weather was so rough in the evening. Heavy Snow & wind out of town. We were expecting a large company from Ogden who did not come.

This week is Memorial week for the Presidents of the Church.

In the evening Mother & I went to the Wilks.

22 December 1926 • Wednesday

I went to the Temple as usual.

Had a busy day and attended my circle meeting in the evening. Mother & I went down to Nina’s later in the evening. Edna & Estella came while we went there. I had a busy day.

23 December 1926 • Thursday

Attended a committee meeting of Temple ordinance from 8:30 to 10:00 A.M. And regular Council meeting from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Sealed eight couples and went through the temple with Pres. Grant and nine of the Apostles. I stood for Christopher Shackleton.

I spent about twelve hours in the Temple. [page break]

24 December 1926 • Friday

Home.

I attended to Xmas shopping visited my family members in different parts of the City &c. We were up until 2:30 & 3:00 P.M. in the morning. Those who had their Christmas with us this year were: Jack & Ruby, Orin & Nina & children, Charles & Edna; Pen & Estella besides those of us at home.

25 December 1926 • Saturday

Christmas.

All usually well & happy. We had the usual happy time. Those named above took dinner with us and in the evening we had all the grown ups of the family at our home including Jack & Ruby from Cornish and excepting Hugh & Sarah who are in Switzerland.

26 December 1926 • Sunday

I addressed the High Priests quorum of Grant Stake in the Wells ward meeting house at 2: P.M. In the evening I attended the Xmas Cantata in the First ward Meeting House and by request made a few closing remarks. Mother & I called at Bro. & Sis. Busah’s after the meeting & from there heard the Radio address of Jos. Fielding Smith.

27 December 1926 • Monday

I attended to several items of business down town. Went to the Temple where I spent some time attending to correspondence &c. At 2:00 P.M. & until about 4:30 I [page break] was in committee meeting with other members of the Twelve considering Temple Ceremonies. In the evening Mother & I took supper with Geo L. & Nerva and with others of the married folks Members of the family spent the evening there.

28 December 1926 • Tuesday

There is a good amount of snow and cold to hold it so that we are having real winter weather.

I spent the forenoon at home doing odd jobs, writing &c.

Attended to some desk work at the Temple.

29 December 1926 • Wednesday

I spent some time in the Temple and in the afternoon took my wife and five daughters to the Victory Theater.

30 December 1926 • Thursday

I spent the day in the temple from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. We had a lengthy Council meeting from 10:30 to 4:20 P.M. in the evening Mother & I spent the evening with the other members of the family at my Son LeGrand’s.

31 December 1926 • Friday

I went to the Temple in the morning and married a brother Ellis & my Sister Wealthys daughter Mary. Attended a meeting of the Temple Recorders and Bro. Jos. F. Smith and submitted to them a plan I had evolved effecting the record taking, making of roll, checking the company in the Creation room &c. My plan was approved with scarcely a suggested change [page break]
