Dense smoke.
I arose at 6:00 A.M. had a good bath & otherwise made ready for a busy day. I read the discourse delivered by Pres F. M. Lyman at the funeral services of Pres Rudger Clawson’s mother while Bro Clawson was in England 1912. Vol 74, p 145 Wrote up my journal for past two days. I spent about six hrs. at the Temple. Alice & I, Geo and Edith, & Geo L. & Nerva by courtesy of Pres & Mrs Heber J. Grant went to the Salt Lake Theater and saw the Passion play by moving pictures. Called on our daughter Edna who is in bed with what seems to be tonsillitis. Nina & Orin, Joel & Georgina & Lucena called in to see us in the evening.

At home.
I spent part of the day in the Temple, Called upon the First Presidency about Temple matters. I took Mother and Aunty Zina Y. Card down to 1194 McCleland ave. to Bertha Teasdales’ and in the evening I went after them and brought home Sisters Edna L. Smith & Julia Smith and took them all to their several homes. In the later evening Mother & I went up to Joels where we met the other members of the family and played games &c until after midnight.

Edna is improving.
I spent the forenoon in the [page break] temple with a committee considering the Temple ordinances I took Mother up to 1363— 2nd ave a saw Sister Wendall Lyman a corps & her loved ones extending our sympathy and later we took Bro & Sister Geo S. Gibbs and went to the funeral services and to [illegible] Wasatch cemetery. In the evening Mother, Ray & I went down to Ednas she having been sick in bed for four days. While there my Son LeGrand & wife called & we had a nice visit. He leaves for the Eastern States next Wednesday

I left home with my car at about 7:20 A.M. Took Mother to the temple and Ray and one of his Companions to the West High School Gymn., thence to the temple. I was the Speaker at the Temple meeting. I sealed 9 couples and attended to much other business. Afternoon I attended a missionary meeting and set apart my Son LeGrand, Orson Alton & Henry Gardner and two three other brethren and instructed the meeting. Mother & I left the temple at 7:30 P.M. and went to a show. The Wanderers founded upon the parable of the Prodegal Son.
What I have written above should have been labeled Tues. Jan 5th. Monday I spent part of the day at the temple called on my daughter Edna who has been sick in bed for several days. In the evening mother & I attended a farewell reception or testi[page break]monial for Henry Gardner held in the Ensign Ward House. I was one of the speakers.

I presided as usual at the 8:30 Temple meeting. Was busy at my desk and otherwise in the temple until the middle of the afternoon, Sealed 18 couples. Saw my son LeGrand off for his mission in the Eastern States.

All well.
Weather continues moderate without snow. I went to the temple in the morning as usual, presided at the Temple meeting & sealed several couples living & some children. I attended weekly meeting of the First Presidency & the Twelve and was lead in prayer. I took Mother & Edna down to Mamies and spent some time there. Later the family met at Nervas where we spent a pleasant evening, arriving home at 12:00 o’clock.

I presided at the Temple 8:30 meeting as usual and was otherwise busy in the temple until 3:30 when I went to the 3:45 P.M. train to Eureka, Tintic. I was met at the train by Pres. E Frank Birch and taken to his home, my headquarters while in Eureka. I spent the evening with Pres. Birch & his Counselor in consideration of stake affairs. [page break]

I attended and spoke at the two sessions of the Priesthood Convention and at the afternoon session of the womens meeting and in the evening I met with the Stake Presidency and Bishop of Eureka considering their problems
10 January 1926 • Sunday
Eureka. Am well. Weather still clear and pleasant. At the forenoon session I occupied about 45 min with much freedom on priesthood & offices growing out of Priesthood Topic Lesser Priesthood. Ministry to Please the Lord must be worthy, willing, faithful and efficient. Our classes & conventions are for the purpose of making the ministry of the church all that the Lord expects of it, &c.
At afternoon meeting I occupied 30 min or more on the Subject that man is that he may have joy (Many of our disappointments and sorrows are the result of thoughtlessness, or wrong doing. [Brought?] Examples of the Huntington woman, the Robrt family &c.
After meeting I was driven to Pason 35 miles & got train at 7:15 P.M. for home reaching Salt Lake at 8:45 P.M.

No snow yet except in the Mountains.
I spent the forenoon at the Temple and in the afternoon I took in my Franklin Car, my wife, my sister Nerva & daughter Lucena down to Riverton & saw and administered to my sister Mary Stevenson who is dying of a cancer. [page break]

More spring like than ever. It looks as if we are not going to have any winter.
I attended regular 8:30 temple meeting, and from 9:30 to 12:15 a quarterly meeting of the Twelve. At one P.M. I assisted in setting apart a company of missionaries, I setting apart three men and two women. At 2:30 P.M. I attended another missionary meeting and set apart 6 missionaries.
Visited my daughter Mamie & family in Sugar House & administered her three children.

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual, sealed 16 couples and some families of children to parents I took a Mr. Henrie, a stranger whom I met some months ago, about town in my Auto. Attended my Circle in the evening, and just as I came from meeting I received a call from Dr. Schow of Sugar House saying that my Daughter Nerva needed me to bring her home in a closed car. She had some teeth extracted, and fainted in the chair. Mother & I went down and got her & took her home and stayed with her until she got to feeling better.

I attended the regular weekly meeting of the Council of the First Presidency & the Twelve in the Temple from 10 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Attended to my sealing & other Temple work and in the evening Alice & I called on Inas family, she was not at home, all well there. We called on Nina and I admin[page break]istered to Dorothy & Orin R. both being in bed ill. We called on Mamie & family, She & all the children are ailing, We called at Nerva’s & found all abed, but we went in and visited a short time. Nerva has been in bed all day.

A change has come in the weather. At an early hour it commenced snowing and continued until we had a depth of about [blank] inches.
Until this time it has been like fall weather. The snow is much needed and its coming will bring much joy.
I attended to my duties at the temple as usual.

I spent part of the day at the temple and part outside. Visited my family in Sugar House, i.e. Mamie & Nina & their families.
17 January 1926 • Sunday
I attended Liberty Stake Conference meetings, not by appointment but spoke 15 min in Assembly Hall. Attended 9: A.M. 10: A.M. & 2: P.M. meetings. In the evening I attended meeting in the Sugar House Ward. Visited with my folks in Sugar House & my daughter Nerva who is ill. A full day. Pleasant weather with icy roads. [page break]

Snowed all day, a large quantity of the beautiful is the result.
I was in the temple at 7:10 A.M. before daylight. Had an appointment with Temple ordinance committee at 8:00 A.M. We were in session until 1:00 P.M. and made good progress. I spent most of the afternoon at home. Received letters from LeGrand & from Oliver and answered both.

Much snow & snowing Mother & I took our car as usual to our work at the Temple. I spent a busy day at the Temple. I spent a busy day at the Temple and went through for Thos. Allen of our line in last company. Got out at or before 11:00 o’clock.
20 January 1926 • Wednesday
Clear & cold night last. Mother & I went to the Temple as usual where we spent a busy day. I sealed eighteen living couples and a number of children.
I attended my prayer circle in the evening and later Mother & I went to the missionary farewell party tendered Eugene Robinson Steed in the Wasatch Ward chapel. I spoke a few moments.

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Attended the weekly Council meeting of the Twelve & Presidency from 10 A.M. to about 2:30 P.M. I went home about 4:30 P.M. Spent some time at my daughter Lucena’s with other members of the family.

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I sent Dr. Stringham to See Sister Halcett who fell in the Creation room last night and broke a rib, according to report. I attended the funeral services of Sister S. B. Young and offered the opening prayer.

I took 7:00 A.M. UP train to Brigham where I attended Box Elder Stake Priesthood Convention being held in connection with their quarterly conference. When through with the convention work I got 4:15 P.M. U.P. Train and arrived in Salt Lake at 6:15 P.M. I found my Son Ray very sick with high fever, delirium pains in the back & limbs &c. He had had a bad night Friday night and all day Saturday in bed having nursed and doctored by his mother, I administered to him, along with other treatments.

I took train again for Brigham. I was met at the Station by Bro. Jos. N. Stohl of the Presidency both yesterday & to-day and taken to & from the Tabernacle. Attended and spoke at both meetings in the forenoon upon the Subject of Who constitute the ministry of the Church. The part the Saints as members should take: qualifications necessary for ministers &c. At the afternoon meeting I spoke upon the subject of History repeats itself. Disappointment & Sorrows that might have been averted & here is the place to prepare for Eternity, Genealogy & Temple work &c [page break]
I ordained one man a high priest and set him apart an Alternate H. Councilor. I also set apart six presidents of the Seventies of the 58th, 59th, 211th & the 133 Quorums and a secretary for the 133rd Quorum during the two days.

I spent the forenoon in the Temple and the afternoon at home studying and preparing my memorandum or Commentary books. I went down to Sugar House and got Nina & her children and called & got Nerva and the two youngest about 1:00 P.M. and took them up to our home. They stayed for supper & Geo L & Orin took supper with us. I took nerva & Geo home in the evening.

I went to the Temple as usual in the morning where I was occupied until about [blank] o’clock except that I was out about 35 minutes attending the H.J.G. & Co. Stockholders meeting.
Alice was not very well and Ray though convalescing from an attack of the Flu. was not in a condition to stay alone so she did not go to the Temple. The Flu epidemic seems to be unabated and has continued for some weeks. I wrote to my Son LeGrand who is filling a short term mission in the Eastern States, located at New Bedford, Mass. We received a letter from Sarah in Basel, Switzerland dated Dec. 29, Jan. 6 & Jan. 11th. I went down to Edna’s apts. and got her & Charles & took them back. Edna did for mother & Ray and Charles did some work on the Radio. [page break]

I went to the Temple as usual in the early morning where I spent a busy day. Attended my Circle meeting in the evening and later the Ensign Stake Priesthood meeting at which Pres. Grant was the Speaker. I offered the Benediction.
28 January 1926 • Thursday
I attended weekly Council meeting from 10:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. including luncheon. Spent the evening at home.
29 January 1926 • Friday
My folks feeling better. I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I took Mother, Ray and Lucena & her children down to Nina’s in Sugar House and brought Nina and her children back to our home with us. Orin called for them on his way home. I left the Temple about 7:30 P.M.

I awoke in the night with a severe headache which continued with me until morning. I got and made the fire, my toilet &c took cathartic and other treatment and lay on the settee until noon. I feared LaGrip but in the Afternoon I took Mother, Ray & Edna down town in my car. I called at the Motor Car Service Station to get my battery. The people there made representation that the battery was ruined supposedly from running without distilled water. I bought a new battery for $35.90 through T. R. Co. where I will get about 25% off with a guarantee of two yrs [page break] I bought a new roller home for Nina to help compensate her for the typing she has done for me, as she would not accept pay.

I have a severe cold.
Attended the 27th ward S. School and spoke to the school for about 12 minutes, subject: Purpose of attendance at S. School. Commented on S.S. Hymn “Never be late.”
I attended the evening meeting of the 27th ward. The Stake missionaries of that ward were the Speakers I took Mother and Nina & children whom we picked up at Edna’s down to Sugar House. Mother & I called upon LeGrand’s family.
