Mesa, Ariz.
I am well.
Beautiful day.
I attended a meeting of the Stake Presidency at 8:00 A.M. for one hour in which I undertook to diagnose the trouble existing in the Stake Presidency and which has existed for a number of years. I discovered the trouble is between Pres. LeSueur and his first counselor Bro. Stapley, the fault being in both. I gave advise and the Brethren promised to try again to get along. We met with the High Council at 9:00 A.M. continuing until 10:30. Here each High Councilor spoke expressing his feelings towards the Presidency and how they felt about sustaining them. All had discovered the division in the Presidency and regretted it and felt to be released if things are to go on as heretofore. I gave them some instruction. Told them that they had not kept their counsels as they ought and that had made trouble. The President & his counselor had not been sufficiently considerate of one another and had not had the sympathy for each other that they had ought to have. I gave the Presidency to understand that the one big problem in the Stake is to set the head in order and all energies should [page break] be put forth for its accomplishment. I feel sure the meetings will prove profitable. At 10:30 A.M. The regular conference convention meeting convened in the large auditorium and at the same time a Junior conference was in session in the First ward house. I attended the opening session of the latter composed of 200 small children and spoke to them occupying about 20 minutes with good liberty on the subject: “Honor thy father & thy mother,” “Which loved best” and the Story, “Clarence & his widowed mother.” I then went to the other meeting and spoke to the topic given me for convention work: The Responsibility of the Priesthood to the Church and to the World.” Rey L. Pratt, Pres. of the Mexican mission, was at these two morning meetings and spoke in each.
At the 2 P.M. meeting I spoke 25 minutes, subject: “Sacrifice.” After this meeting, with the Stake Presidency, I interviewed two of the Bishoprics, Mesa 3rd & 4th wards where the Presidency of the Stake and the H.C. had recommended to the First Presidency by letter to be released. I found nothing against them and found them willing to serve, though they had become somewhat discouraged. I tried to build them up and we decided to leave them in place. President LeSueur afterward acknowledged to me that he had regretted having made the recommendation to release them but thought it had gone too far to recall.
We interviewed the Bishopric of the [page break] Gilbert ward made a change in counselor. We also interviewed Patriarch Petersen and [blank] and found that they are giving blessings. I gave them instructions. We spent an hour with these brethren.
At the evening conjoint M.I.A. meeting I occupied the last 20 minutes of a two hour meeting upon the subject of marriage. Quite a number of people came to me after meeting and expressed their pleasure in what I had said. We did some ordaining & settings apart after this meeting.
This has been another strenuous day but the accomplishments and successes of the day more than compensate. May the Lord be praised.

Had there been but one Priest, I might not have [page break] disturbed him but seeing there were two of them I just thought I would beard the Lion in his den by introducing the subject. They would not be drawn out.
