Am well.
I worked at my desk all day and evening. Wrote to my son LeGrand, to Pres. Grant & others. [p. 167]
2 December1 1917 • Sunday
I attended S. School and afternoon and evening meeting and spoke at all three. Wrote home.
3 December 1917 • Monday
I worked at my desk all day. Had a round up with Bro. S. Attended concert in the meeting room given by local talent in the evening.
4 December 1917 • Tuesday
Liverpool.
All well.
I worked at my desk all day and wrote letters in the evening
5 December 1917 • Wednesday
All day at my desk and attended evening meeting.
6 December 1917 • Thursday
Made a trip down town and spent the remaining time of day and evening at my desk I am sending to Utah 46 Cabinet pictures, and I prepared a letter to accompany each and prepared card board envelopes 3d each for mailing, Christmas greetings accompanying. [p. 168]
7 December 1917 • Friday
I worked at my desk all the forenoon and after noon I went down town and got two doz. cabinet pictures and mailed out 26 to friends in Utah. Before retiring, I wrote a 6 paged letter to my wife.
8 December 1917 • Saturday
I made a trip down town to 3 Lord St. and walked home. I spent the remainder of the day at my desk.
I have mailed to friends and relatives at home, sixty of my photos, small cabinets with a letter enclosed in each case wishing the parties the compliments of the season.
9 December 1917 • Sunday
Liverpool, Eng
I am well & happy but I would love to see my wife and children. I wrote to my wife between meetings, studied gospel subjects &c.
Attended S. School and evening meeting.
10 December 1917 • Monday
I spent the day and evening [p. 169] at my desk as usual.
This evening’s paper announces the capture of Jerusalem by the British. This is glorious news as the British have already signified their purpose of opening the way for the Jews to return to the land of Palestine by driving the Turks out of the country which it seems they are doing in good order.
11 December 1917 • Tuesday
I worked all day and evening until eleven o’clock at my desk, excepting about 2 hours I was in reliefsociety meeting.
12 December 1917 • Wednesday
I attended a brief funeral service at the home of a brother named Tope, 67 Windsor Road. Wm. Richards Tope, 6 yr. old. was buried. I conducted the service and spoke and offered the closing prayr.
I attended the evening meeting & studied until 11 P.M.
13 December 1917 • Thursday
I worked at my desk all day and evening.
14 December 1917 • Friday
Worked all day and evening at my desk as usual. [p. 170]
15 December 1917 • Saturday
I made a trip down town and the remainder of the day was spent down at my desk as usual. Important business transacted.
Edith had a sick spell and George and I administered to her.

Liverpool.
Stormy cold day.
I went to Wigan on 12:30 train and attended Sunday School at 2 P.M. and public meeting at 6 P.M. I assisted with the sacrament at both meetings and occupied 40 min in the first session and 70 min in the second session. Subjects Sacrament, Atonement, Jos. Smith a prophet, Unity & love &c.
I returned to Liverpool on a belated train. My son met me at the station with my heavy overcoat which was much appreciated. It was 1 A.M. when I retired.
17 December 1917 • Monday
Worked at my desk all day and evening.
Mailed to my son LeGrand twenty-seven of my photographs in covers, small cabinet style one each for the members of my circle. I also [p. 171] prepared to mail to Sisters Felt. Anderson and Beeby of the Primary Presidency a photograph each of same type.
18 December 1917 • Tuesday
Liverpool.
All well.
I worked at my desk all day and in the evening as usual.
I wrote letters to my wife and to my boy Ray.
I mailed small cabinet photographs of my self to the presidents of the following missions; South Africa, Netherlands, Scandinavia and Sweden.
19 December 1917 • Wednesday
All well. I made a trip down town and spent the remainder of the day at my desk. Attended evening meeting. My son was the speaker.
20 December 1917 • Thursday
I worked all day and evening at my desk. Sent out seven letters of transfer to take effect Jan. 2, 1918. Sent letters also to the the presidents of seven conferences effected by these transfers.
Elder Harold Lee Browning [p. 172] arrived this evening from Hull.
21 December 1917 • Friday
Liverpool.
I worked at my desk all day except the time necessary to accompany Elder Harold Lee Browning to the Alien’s office. Wrote and dictated important letters. Sent letters to all the Conference presidents extending to them and their associate elders the season’s greetings.
22 December 1917 • Saturday
I worked at my desk as usual all day and evening. Had a hot bath before retiring and dreamed of my wife and children.
23 December 1917 • Sunday

All well.
I attended S. School and evening meeting & spoke at both, the latter by previous appointment. Between meetings I wrote to my wife, a two paged letter. Retired at 11:30 P.M.
24 December 1917 • Monday
Liverpool.
Am well.
My son and I walked down town in the afternoon. The remainder of the day and the evening were spent at my desk. [p. 173] No word from home since the 12th and that was from LeGrand.
25 December 1917 • Tuesday
Liverpool.
All well.
A clear day.
My son George, Edith and I, in the forenoon, walked down to the peir head or docks and saw the Laviathan supposed to be the largest boat afloat. She belonged to Germany and was known as the Fodderland. It was seized by the U.S. when war was declared by the U.S. against Germany. It is reported that it recently brought 10,000 U.S. soldiers over to this city.
We were gone less than two hours and the remainder of the day and evening was spent at the house and mostly at my desk. I wrote a letter home to the family. Josephine & Franklin had a good Christmas.
26 December 1917 • Wednesday
All day and evening at my desk as usual. No American mail.
27 December 1917 • Thursday
Letters from Mother, Ruby, Nina, LeGrand and my sister Alice. I wrote to Mother & to sister Alice. Spent the day and evening at my desk as usual and [p. 174] transacted important business.
28 December 1917 • Friday
Received Christmas letters from Mother, Estella, Nerva, Joel, Ruby. I wrote letters, attended to business correspondence &c. At my desk all day and evening.
29 December 1917 • Saturday
All day at my desk as usual. All are well here and we have good word from home. I wrote pen letters to LeGrand, Ina and Nina, & Ruby before retiring.
30 December 1917 • Sunday
Attended S. School and explained the memory gem. &c.
I was on the program to speak but there was no time left and it was announced that Elder Cottam and I would speak next Sunday evening. All well.
George adjusted my fountain pen holder making quite an improvement in it. I have used it for some years and it has given splendid satisfaction.
31 December 1917 • Monday
Liverpool.
I had no distress or disturbed spirit but I only got about four [p. 175] hours sleep last night.
I spent the day at my desk as usual except that I went down town in the afternoon and attended to some business. I mailed out thirty-two photographs most of them to stake presidents, each being accompanied with a New Year’s card. The photographs were of myself and in covers what would likely be called small cabinets. In the evening I wrote a four paged letter to my wife. Arose at 6:30 and retired at 10 P.M. I am in splendid health. Others are well.
This has been a good year and I have much satisfaction in what has been accomplished May the Lord be praised for ever.
