I attended meeting of Presidency and the Twelve from 10: A.M. to about 2:00 P.M. Attended to my duties as usual at the Temple. Called on my daughters Nerva & Nina in the evening. Joel & wife and Oliver & wife Called on us. We called on our Son George who has been having a severe sore throat. Had R. W. C. Smith, the Radio man go over my set in the evening at a cost of $3.00.

2 December 1927 • Friday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Arranged to have 157 names [page break] of males and 153 names of females listed for baptisms and arranged to have the persons baptized for Monday Dec. 5th our family Children acting as proxy’s.

I took 11: P.M. train for Rupert, Idaho.

3 December 1927 • Saturday

I arrived in Minidoka at 6:38 A.M. Was met by Pres Richard C. May and taken in closed car & comfort to Rupert, about 16 miles where the Minidoka Conference was being held today & tomorrow I attended both sessions held in the ward house and spoke at each. In the evening I met with the Stake Presidency for two hours

4 December 1927 • Sunday

Rupert, Idaho.

I attended and spoke at both conference meetings held in the Opera house. I ordained and set apart the Bishopric of the Eden ward and ordained a seventy.

The Lord helped me and I feel satisfied with my ministry here.

I took train at 7:40 for home.

5 December 1927 • Monday

Weather beautiful.

Arrived in Salt Lake from Rupert Idaho, at 7: A.M. Did some work at my home desk and went to the Temple and attended to correspondence &c I played a game of golf with my sons George & LeGrand. I sat an hour for a painting by Lee Green Richards for the Temple or elsewhere as the Presidency may select. Others of the Brethren are doing likewise. I took Mother down town. We are hav[page break]ing about three hundred of our dead kindred baptized for to day by young members of the family.

6 December 1927 • Tuesday

The ground is blanketed with several inches of snow and the weather has turned freezing cold.

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. I spent an hour & a half in Lee Green Richards’ Office, posing for a painting. We left the Temple for home about 6: P.M. George, Oliver & Mamie came in to see us in the evening.

7 December 1927 • Wednesday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual I spent an hour 20 min. with the [illegible] sitting for a painting. Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I accompanied my brother Fred, my son LeGrand and Jos. Cutter to the home of my nephew Fred. W. Richards Jr. 132 & [W?] So and we administered unto him. He had a blood clot back of the eye & suffers. great pain and has lost the sight in that eye whether but temporary or permanently I do not know. We hope the Lord will interpose his power for his healing. I attended my circle meeting in the evening.

8 December 1927 • Thursday

Attended weekly council meeting of the Presidency & the twelve. Attended Temple meeting at 8:30; a meeting of the Twelve at 9:00 A.M. and attended to other Temple duties. I left the Temple about 6:30 P.M. took Mother with me and took Mothers sister Mamie & Estella & Edith home from the Temple. Called at Mamies and [page break] Nina’s and took 11: P.M. train for Lund & Cedar.

9 December 1927 • Friday

Arrived at Lund about 9: A.M. Took stage to Cedar arriving about 10: A.M. Left Cedar with Stage at 12: Noon for St. George 56 miles distant, Arrived about 1:30 P.M. A son of Geo. F. Whitehead was driver and charged me nothing. I went up to the Temple & spent about an hour or possibly two hours with Pres. Whitehead I stayed at the home of President [blank] Bentley. In the evening I attended a meeting of the Presidency & High Council and took active part in their discussions, answering a number of questions.

10 December 1927 • Saturday

St. George;

I attended the regular sessions of the conference at 10: and 2: oclock, and Spoke at both. I also Spoke to the S.S. Children in the School house attended and took active part in a meeting of the Presidency in the evening.

At the forenoon meeting I occupied 40 minutes Subject: Parents & Children. At afternoon meeting I occupied 35 min on Tithing.

11 December 1927 • Sunday

I attended 10: A.M. conference meeting and occupied about 35 min, Subject: “Thy Will be Done.” Applied W. of Wisdom Card playing, Secret Orders &c.

I also went to the School building and addressed the Children 350 strong. Subject: “The Future Ministry.”

At 2: P.M. Meeting I occupied 60 min. Subject: Tithing. I ordained and Set apart one Patriarch, a counselor in the High Priests Quorum Presidency, the Bishopric of the Toquerville [page break] Ward. After meeting I left for Modena via Enterprise, 75 miles distant, with Wm Lund of Enterprise.

Rain & mud in St. George but farther on we got Snow. We were 45 min. behind train time 7:45 and it so happened that the train pulling in in front of us it being same length of time late. I boarded train at 8:45 P.M. at Modena. While at St. George I ate one meal at the home of Bro. & Sis. Geo F. Whitehead, all other at Pres. Wm O Bentleys.

12 December 1927 • Monday

Arrived in Salt Lake from St. George at about 6: A.M. I spent an hour three quarters in the Artists Shop having my photo. I spent some time at the Temple, sat at the art gallery for a painting; went shopping with Sister Richards, Christmas Shopping Spent the evening at home with my wife & we cared for Estellas baby while she & Spencer went to a Show.

13 December 1927 • Tuesday

Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual.

I spent 1 hr, 40 min at the art shop being painted. Had a busy day most of the time at my desk.

14 December 1927 • Wednesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Twenty living sealings, husbands & wives. I sat 1½ hrs. for my portrait painting. Attended Circle meeting. I spent the evening at home, leaving the Temple at about 7:40 P.M. [page break]

Stormy cold weather.

Mother & I spent the day at the Temple as usual. I attended weekly Council meeting in the forenoon.

We went home about 6: P.M. where we spent the evening.

Cold & snow

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual in the morning and spent the day in pleasant labor.

17 December 1927 • Saturday

Cold & Snow.

I took Mother and Edna down town and to see my portrait recently painted by Lee Green Richards, for the Temple. They like it. I spent some time in the Temple four or five hours. Attended some odd jobs, and spent the evening at home. The above written from memory and a mistake occurs. It was Monday that Mother, Edna & I went to the Artists. This day (Saturday) we had about 345 names baptized for by our own folks.

18 December 1927 • Sunday

I spent the forenoon at home studying. At noon Mother and I took our car and with us three of the Temple workers and went to West Bountiful ward where we attended the funeral services of Bro. Briant Stringham. I was one of the Speakers. Returned to the City Mother & I went down to Estellas where Edna & Ray were and had our dinner there. Edna [page break] returned to our home with us and there spent the night.

19 December 1927 • Monday

Home.

Cold weather & much snow.

I spent several hours at the temple. Had about 280 of our Kindred dead baptized for.

I spent a part of the afternoon and evening at home with my folks. Edna went home on the 8: P.M. train, to Ogden. Other members of the family came in to see us.

20 December 1927 • Tuesday

Cold weather.

Mother & I went to the Temple in the early morning as usual.

I attended a Director’s meeting of the Richards Motor Co. Spent the evening at home. I was speaker in the Temple meeting.

21 December 1927 • Wednesday

Cold weather

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual in the morning. I sealed 18 or 20 couples of young people. We remained at the Temple until about 8: P.M. and spent the remainder of the evening at home.

22 December 1927 • Thursday

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual for the 8:25 A.M. meeting where I always preside when in the City. Attended weekly Council meeting from 10: A.M. until after 1:00 P.M. Then lunched and met with the Twelve and considered matters pertaining to the Church Priesthood and Sunday Schools. Spent the evening at home. I sealed several Couples. [page break]

23 December 1927 • Friday

Home.

Weather moderated and new snow falling.

This is the birth day anniversary of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Jos F. Smith Jr speaker at Temple meeting.

I spent most of the day in the Temple and until after 7: P.M. at night. I took Mother home and thence shopping for a while.

I sent a letter and $5.00 each to My Sisters Alice A. & Minerva E. and to my Niece Mamie S. Ashcroft as a Christmas remembrance.

24 December 1927 • Saturday

Home.

I spent most of the day making preparations for Christmas.

Married one couple in the Temple Spent the evening home preparing for Xmas.

25 December 1927 • Sunday

Christmas

Edna, Ray, Mother & I and spent the night here. We left for Nina’s about 6:15 A.M., thence to Mamie’s and back home. Nina & family, Estella & Pen and Oliver & Marie came back with us to our home where we lighted the tree & distributed presents. We had to dinner Jack & Ruby, Lucena & family, Estella & Pen, Oliver & Marie and Clarence & Mamie & family took dinner with us. Also Edna.

Pres Grant called on us about 1:00 P.M. and presented us with a book: “Utah the Land of Blossoming Valley’s” by Geo Wharton James. I attended and spoke at the Tabernacle services. Other mem[page break]bers of my family called to see us during the day and we exchanged presents. It was a good winters day cold clear and plenty of snow. All seemed to have a good time.

Mother & I received many Xmas cards.

26 December 1927 • Monday

Home.

All well

Weather moderating.

I arose at 6: A.M.

Cleaned up the house and did odd jobs. Jack & Ruby <left> for home at about 11:40 A.M.

Mother, Edna & I went to the Capitol Theater from 1:05 to 3:20 We went down & called on Nina & Mamies folks. Mother & I and George & family went to Nina’s & took dinner. We came home about 9:30 and got salad supper for seven of the Scouts & their girls, a progressive Supper.

27 December 1927 • Tuesday

I made a trip down town and made some purchases and spent the day and evening at home.

We had a turkey supper and had our Sons and their wives and Nerva & Geo. & Estella & Hyrum to dinner or supper. They spent the evening here. We had a pleasant time.

28 December 1927 • Wednesday

Snowing hard.

I had an appointment with the Presidency & Twelve at 9: A.M. Later I solemnized a marriage at the Temple. Spent the evening with my wife at Estella’s & Penn’s & had supper. [page break]

29 December 1927 • Thursday

Quite heavy snow fell last night. I made paths and met with the Twelve at 9: A.M. Had chains put on my car and the lights adjusted. Spent the evening at LeGrands with others of the family.

30 December 1927 • Friday

Much snow, moderate temperature in the day time but very cold at night. I spent some time at the Temple.

Was at home with Mother most of the day, and we spent the evening with other family members at the home of Hyrum & Estella’s Lee’s & had supper there.

31 December 1927 • Saturday

This is the last day of the year 1927. It has been a very eventful year, a good year for me and my family, [37 words redacted relating to matters personal to the Richards family] She has employment in Ogden and is making her mark as a Book keeper & stenographer.

To-day I am happy and in our home more comfortable than ever before. The installation of an oil burner in our furnace contributes much to our comfort. The birth to our daughter Estella of a beautiful baby girl is a joy to us all. I spent a part of this day at the Temple; We went to a show in the evening. [page break]
