My son LeGrand had invited all my family members to attend the Paramount Empress Show and nearly 60 of them responded at 1:30 P.M. a good show. Mother & I visited some of our family homes and some afflicted ones not of the family. &c.
2 January 1930 • Thursday
I fasted and attended a 9:00 A.M. meeting of the Twelve in the Temple and a meeting of the First Presidency & the Twelve. I went with the brethren to see the New Hotel, Temple Block. Later I took Mother to See Apartments in the Belvadere Apartment House. In the evening I spent the time with my wife and members of my family at Estella Lees until a late hour.

Mother & I visited a number of apartments with a view to [le]arning what is accissible and desirable. We decided to not go into Apartments at present.
In the evening my Son George and I attended the wrestling match at McCulloughs Arena. Pres. Ivins sat near me so that without rising we shook hands. Many people were turned away as the arena was full. [page break]

Mother and I spent about two hours considering problems confronting him & LeGrand with which they are wrestling in connection with LeGrand’s disposing of his business, as he is about to move to Los Angeles. I took Mother and our daughter Nerva to the Capitol where I left them and attended to radio & other business and then went to the Temple. I learn that my radio Battery is spoiled so figured on the connection direct with the house lighting system.
5 January 1930 • Sunday
Mother & I called on Sister Charles Wm Hatch and took her and her father down to the Deseret Mortuary where the body of her deceased husband lay in state. We called at Henry Gardner’s home and from there went to the Ensign ward House where at 12: o’clock the funeral services of Bro. Henry Gardner were held and I was one of the Speakers. At 2:00 P.M. I attended the funeral services of Chas. Wm Hatch in the 18th ward chapel and was one of the Speakers. These two brethren were Temple Ordinance workers and Bro. Gardner lead the Singing in our temple meetings. When we came out of the 2:00 P.M. meeting it was snowing hard and continued so for some hours. Mother & I having been invited to take dinner with our daughter Lucena we went to their home below 13th So & East [page break] of 11th East where we found our daughter Edna from Ogden. We visited together until about 9: P.M. when we came home & Edna left for Ogden alone in the auto about 6 or 8 inches of snow fell and then it turned cold.
6 January 1930 • Monday
Mother & I went to the Temple as usual, this being the opening after the Holidays. Bro. M. J. Ballard was the speaker. Mother left the Temple at about 11:20 A.M. for the Drs Clinic where Nina had been taken for examination. She did not leave until about 4:30 P.M. for home.
I bought of the Intermountain Electric Company through my Son George a new up to date Grebe Radio Set for $268.00 less 40% or 153.00 or thereabouts and George assisted me in taking it home & installing same.
I arranged with Joel to load him $1000.00 to put into the Richards Motor Co. The Company owes me that amount for money loaned the company.

I attended to my duties at the Temple. Had my car washed. Mother and I and our daughter <Nerva> with us attended a banquet in the 27th Ward Hall at 6:30 after which we three & Geo. L. went with Sarah as her guests to the Play House show, she having complimentary tickets. I took them all home after the play. Weather bitter cold.

Attended temple meeting at 9: A.M. a meeting of the Twelve at 9:30 and at 10:00 a meeting of the Council Sealed ten or twelve living couples attended to desk work &c. (13 hrs.)

I spent the day at the Temple as usual, and the evening at Joel’s with other family members to dinner &c.
I have been having quite a cold this week since Sunday but I am much better of it to-day, thank the Lord.
11 January 1930 • Saturday
About 10 inches of snow fell last night and this morning in Salt Lake.
I took my car and Mother and Estella Lee & her two children accompanied me to Tooele where I attended the first session of the Stake conference at 2: P.M. and was one [page break] of the Speakers. After meeting Mother & I & Vanace Lee returned to Salt Lake. The day was cold but we went and returned in comparative comfort.
12 January 1930 • Sunday
More snow fell last night.
I took my car and accompanied by my wife went to Too[e]le Conference. I spoke at both forenoon and afternoon meetings and between times ordained & set apart the Bishoprics of Grantsville First Ward & Lake Point ward and two counselors in the Tooele South Ward Bishopric. I also set apart three Presidents in the 31st quorum of Seventy and one in the 43d quorum. I also ordained four Seventies.
Estella Lee & her Son Preston returned to Salt Lake with us.
LeGrand & Ina called and spent about an hour with us after meeting in the 27th ward.
13 January 1930 • Monday
Additional snow this A.M.
Mother & I went to the Temple as usual in the morning, where we had a busy day until 8:00 P.M. After that we went to the Play House with Sarah & Hugh. Cold night.
14 January 1930 • Tuesday
I went to the Temple as usual. Attended to desk work &c.
Mother and I are entertaining her brothers & Sisters & their companions with a Turkey dinner &c. [page break]

Cold continues
Mother & I spent a busy day at the Temple, putting in about 11 hrs. From 2 until 5:30 I was in meeting with the Twelve & Seventies; considering Seventies work.
16 January 1930 • Thursday
I attended Temple meeting at 9:00 A.M. and presided as usual. Attended meeting of the Twelve at 9:30 A.M. and regular Council meeting at 10:00 A.M. I was excused from Council Meeting at 11:40 A.M. and attended and spoke at the funeral services of John Hagman in the Jos. Wm Taylor undertaking parlors at 12:00 Noon. Returned to the Temple and did the living sealings &c.

I spoke at the funeral services for Evelyn Jensen, Hatch Pack in Hawthorn w’d. Attended to my duties at the Temple
In the evening, Mother and I took supper at George’s with LeGrand and family & spent the evening there.
I took train after 11: P.M. for Moore, in Lost River Stake.

I detrained at Arco where I attended the funeral services of John McHenry and was one of the Speakers. Attended and Spoke at the evening Conference meeting in Moore. [page break]

Moore, Idaho.
I attended the morning Session of Conference in Moore and occupied about an hour of the time and then took train at 1:11 P.M. for home. I arrived home after 12 o’clock.

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. The weather was very cold and the Companies were small. Mother and I went through with the 5:00 P.M. Company

Cold weather.
I spent some time at the Temple, took Mother shopping & bought her a dress, took her down to Sarah’s and later went & got her. Spent the evening at home.

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual in the morning where we spent the day, busy as usual. We went through the Temple at night.
23 January 1930 • Thursday
Attended Temple Meeting at 9:00 A.M., Meeting of the Twelve at 9:30 and regular Council meeting at 10:00 until 3:00 P.M. Attended to desk & other work. Mother & I went through the temple in the evening.

Mother and I spent the day at the temple as usual until 8:00 P.M. My Son George & I went to the McCoullough Arena & Saw the wresting match after 8: P.M. [page break]

I spent the forenoon at home and after dinner went to the Temple where I was busy until train time I took 4:15 P.M. Interurban train for Pleasant Grove to attend Timpanogos Stake Conference, the first session being held at 7:30 P.M. I was met at the train by Stake Pres. Wilford W. Warnick taken to his home to supper in Manilla ward. I was one of the Speakers in the evening officers meeting at which there were 234 present. After meeting I went home with Edmund Cragun of the Presidency and stayed the night.

I spoke at the forenoon and afternoon meeting of the Timpanogos stake Conference and returned to Salt Lake where I spent the evening at home. Estella & Spencer stayed with us over night.
27 January 1930 • Monday
I took 8:15 A.M. train for Provo and made a 40 minutes talk before the Genealogical & Temple workers, and then answered several questions asked by those present on invitation. I made a few remarks in the general assembly at 1:00 P.M. Had luncheon and returned home with Bro & Sis D. O. McKay in their Auto arriving at the Temple at 4:20 P.M. I remained at the Temple until the evening companies were well underway. [page break]

I spent most of the day at my desk in the Temple. I presided at a missionary meeting and assisted in setting the missionaries apart. Attended Stock holders meeting of H.J.G. & Co. Paid the Genealogical Society of Utah $21.30 ful[l] bal on our work on Longstroth line from my own savings and $45.00 collected from nine members of the family, myself included to be used in Genealogical search with a view to connect our line with other New England lines & with our ancestors across the water.
Mother & I spent the evening and had supper with LeGrand & Ina. LeGrand leaves for Los Angeles tomorrow to engage in business. His family will go later.

Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual where we had a busy day. We went through the Temple at night.

Weather moderated.
We had a busy day at the Temple as usual. Mother & her sisters went through the Temple at night and my son George & I after 8: P.M. went to the wrestling match, Compliments of Verne McCullough. I was gone about two hours and returned to the Temple where I remained until after 11: P.M.
