I went to the Temple at 7:20 A.M. where we had a busy day.

I invited Pres. Grant to do the speaking at the Temple meeting, but he had another appointment and sent word he could not come. I did the speaking and had good liberty. Sealed 26 couples living & some children to parents, also some dead.

This day I ordered awnings for our west windows, three above and three below. In the evening I attended my circle meeting and wrote to my daughter Ruby and to my son Oliver.

It was a wonderful thing to hear speeches and the ceremonies carried on between these cities by eminent Americans such as Vice President Daws, General Miles, and General Pershing & others.

At 9:00 P.M. we witnessed the pyrotechnic display of fire works from Ensign Peak.

8 July 1925 • Wednesday

Warm day.

This is our Temple Worker’s outing day. The Good people of Alpine Stake are to entertain us. We had a special train on Orme Line which ran in two sections. We got a $1:20 round trip rate and 376 went by train at Temple expense and a number went by auto. My Son George & wife in their Ford Sedan took Mother & me and we reached the Stake Tabernacle at about 9:25 A.M. The train arrived about 10:10 A.M. A meeting was held in the Stake Tabernacle and a banquet served in the basement. About 150 autos were present and took the guests to Geneva resort on the shore of Utah Lake where cool drinks were served free of charge. From there we returned to Pleasant Grove, Am. Fork & Lehi, thence to Saratoga Springs Resort where some of us had a hot bath. From there to Lehi where we had another brief entertainment & refreshments. I was one of the speakers at both entertainments. The train was scheduled [page break] to leave Lehi at 7:30 P.M. We had a glorious day. The efforts and expense to which the Alpine Stake people were put was something tremendous but they did their tasks beautifully and cheerfully. President Grant & wife were at the First meeting and the Banquet & the President was one of the speakers. So far as I could tell, the same spirit pervaded our associations of the day that is felt in the Temple work.

29 July 1925 • Wednesday

I went to the Temple in the morning as usual.

I read Wm Jennings Bryans speech prepared to deliver in court at Dayton, Tenn. in defense of Religion and Christianity and denouncing evolution. I mailed tohe paper to my son Oliver in Germany. I was of about 9 or 10 columns length and was in this morning Tribune. [page break] I indorse the article fully and think it should be published in pamphlet form as Mr. Bryans dying testimony. He died suddenly on the 26th inst. and before the speech was delivered.

In speaking last Sunday at the funeral services of Sister Poulsen in Logan I read Wm J. Bryans thought on the Immortality of the Soul and he died about 4:00 P.M. Eastern time that day which would be about 2:00 P.M. Mt. time. A singular coincident worthy of mention.

30 July 1925 • Thursday

Attended weekly Council meeting in the Temple where I received the appointment to attend, alone, the Jordan Stake Conference Aug 8 & 9. In my report I suggested that the last written speech of Wm J. Bryan on Christianity & Evolution should be published in pamphlet form in some form where it could be referred to and be accessible. Pres. Grant said it could be published in the Improvement Era. After the meeting I phoned Editor Ed. H. Anderson who said he would see to it &c.

In the evening Mother, Geo & Edith, LeGrand & Ina went with me to the Empress & saw “The Ten Commandments.”
