I entertained Elder Arnold G. Holland, his father and Step mother & aunt at our home. Received call from Dr. Lyman Stockey of Lehi & his wife at the Administration building office.
Bought suit 16.50 & shoes for Oliver $1.49 + $6.15.
Took supper at Nina’s.

All are well.
Alice, Ray and I went with Joel and family in his auto to Tooele and returned via of Salt Air arriving home at 1 A.M. of Sunday. Hyrum Lee and family in their auto accompanied us from Tooele to Salt Air. We had a nice ride, visit with the folks and rest.

I attended temple fast meeting, 27th ward meeting and bore testimony at each. I attended Ensign Ward evening M.I.A. Conjoint meeting in the evening & was the speaker. [page break]

All well.
I spent several hours at the offices of the Gen. Ch. Authorities
Attended to business with the Presidency and others.
With Alice and other family members I went to Salt Air at the opening of the Electric system of Ry between S.L. City and the beach. We were belated on account of defective service and reached the S L Depot at 1:30 A.M. LeGrand and Ina who were with us brought us home from the station.

Warm day.
I wrote letters to Pres. G. A. Smith and to John A. Butterworth at Liverpool & Rotterdam respectively. I interviewed the First Presidency and attended to other business.

It is three Three <(3)> years ago to-day I left my home for a mission to Great Britain.
This day I attended a meeting of the Gen Bd. of Y.M.M. and of my Circle. Went with Rega & Lucina to see houses, they having in view the purchase of a home. Orin took us out. [page break]

I was with the brethren of the Twelve & Presidency from 10 A.M. until about 4 P.M. in the temple in weekly Council.
I considered with LeGrand, Mother & others the proposition to purchase a new home now for sale on 11th Ave. between 9th & 10th South. Took supper at Mamies and spent the evening there.
LeGrand brought us home at a late hour.
We are considering seriously the matter of buying a new & modern home all on one floor and of disposing of our home at 1010 Third Avenue or renting it.

A good rain fell.
I wrote to Pres. Heber J. Grant at Gridley, Cal.
Alice, Lucena, George LeGrand and I went out to the S. East part of the City and looked through two houses with a view to buying one but finally decided to make certain changes and repairs on our 1010 Third Ave. property and not think of moving or of buying elsewhere for the present.

Weather cooler
I attended to business down town in the forenoon and I set apart Brother & Sister [page break] <Muir of Bountiful> missionaries to Samoa.
In the afternoon LeGrand and George took their families in their fords to Tooele and Mother and I and our three children, Oliver, Estella and Ray went with them. Edna was already out there. We had supper at Estella Lee’s and LeGrand & I and Oliver & Estella returned home leaving Tooele at 9 P.M. and arriving at 11:20 P.M.

Warm.
I took the 8 A.M. Bamberger car for Ogden where I attended the Ogden Stake conference. I was the only visitor of the General Authorities and I occupied about 50 minutes or an hour at both Morning and afternoon services in the Ogden Tabernacle and at the the 4th ward meeting in the evening. The Lord helped me and I feel quite satisfied with my ministrations President Thomas E. McKay seemed well pleased and others expressed them selves in that way. I returned on Electric Car leaving Ogden at 9:30 P.M. and arriving in Salt Lake at 10:40 P.M.
Mother and Estella Lee & her [page break] baby, our Estella, Edna and Ray came in from Tooele with George in the early evening. George was not feeling well.
While in Ogden I ordained and set apart the Bishopric of the 4th Ward, some alternate High Counselors &c, six or eight in all.

Last night was a sultry warm night. This morning there is a nice breeze.
I went down town and attended to some business and rode home with George who took dinner with me. The afternoon was spent at home and in the evening my son George took Mother, Estella Lee, their children and me for a ride in his ford car.

All usually well.
I spent the day at home. A Brother Snow looked our home over with a view to buying. I offered it for six thousand dollars.
Pres. Edward T. Ashton and my son LeGrand called to look the house over with a view to having certain changes made and other work done under the former’s di[page break]rection.

Weather tolerable indoors.
I went to the market at 6:30 A.M. with my sons George & LeGrand and bought vegetables.
I had a Bro. “Perschaw” a painter and paper hanger to look the house over and make estimate on painting and papering.
14 August 1919 • Thursday
I attended council meeting in the temple as usual on this day of the week. At these meetings [13 words redacted relating to a sacred ritual], make report of our labors of the past week and counsel over important matters. These meetings usually last from 10 A.M. to three or four o’clock.
I sent two or three hours in the Church Office Building attending to matters of church business.
15 August 1919 • Friday
In company with Elder Leo Fairbanks of the S.S.U. Board, I left Salt Lake for the San Juan Stake to attend Stake Conference and a conference of the S. Schools at [page break] Monticello, on the 8:15 A.M. train. We arrived at Thompson at 4:58 P.M. and went on to Moab, 35 miles, by auto stage and stayed over night at Bp. Clyde A. Hammonds’.

Am well.
We started for Monticello, 70 miles distant, at 5:50 A.M. on Auto Stage. We had much tire trouble and arrived in Monticello at 2:45 P.M. The morning priesthood meeting had been held and the afternoon session was in progress. Elder Fairbanks & I each spoke at this meeting. I had learned from Bp Hammond at Moab that a member of our young men had recently joined the W.O.W. and that a vigorous propaganda was on by that organization, so I spoke upon the subject which pleased the Stake presidency.
I attended a recital by home talent in the evening.
Between, I assisted in administering to Sister Marian Brunson who had been run down by an auto and had her hip broken which had but recently been set. She received benefits from our administration. [page break]

Monticello.
I attended 9 A.M. S.S. officer’s meeting, the 10 A.M., 2 P.M. & 8 P.M. Conference meetings and a meeting of the Seventies at 4:30 P.M. and ordained four or five Seventies, set two of the brethren apart as Presidents of the 125th Quorum. I confirmed a young woman named Sarah E. Barney of Monticello who was babtized this A.M. the only one out of the family, I understand.

We left Monticello at 10 A.M. and rode 105 miles to Thompson arriving at 8:45 P.M. We took rooms at the hotel and got 4:07 train in the morning for Salt Lake.
19 August 1919 • Tuesday
Thompson.
Leaving Thompson at 4:30 A.M. we arrived in Salt Lake at 12:25 on time.
I bathed, shaved, changed clothing &c and after dinner went down to President Heber J. Grants’ office where I spent two or three hours and brought Pres. Grant up to take supper with us. After Supper He took me Alice and the children [page break] for a ride up Emigration Canyon. This is the first time I had seen President Grant since I returned from my mission, he having been in California the past month.

All well.
I spent considerable time with the painters & paperers in getting bids on renovating our home.
I attended to business down town and attended my circle meeting in the evening. After Circle I went down to my daughter Sarah’s home where Mother, Oliver & Ray were visiting and had supper with her & family, Icecream was served and an excellent supper had and a nice evening spent until 11 P.M. My son George took me down and came and brought us all home.

I attended temple meeting from 10 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. except for intermission for about 40 minutes while the Presidency and the Twelve went over to the Church offices and met the Governors of a number of the States of the Union who are visiting here. [page break]
I am making preparations for having some repair work done on our home & to have it painted inside and out and papered &c and it takes some of my time.

I spent the forenoon at home writing letters and assisting the painter to make estimate on painting & papering. In the afternoon I visited Pres. J Golden Kimball at his home, he being ill. Elder Talmage accompanied me. I visited with Elder Talmage in his office for an hour or two, and attended to other business.

Mother & I left Salt Lake at midnight last night for Paris, Idaho to attend Bear Lake Conference.
We arrived in Montpelier at 9:05 A.M. Alice remained with her sister Sarah J. Dunn and I went on to Paris, 10 miles, with a Bro. Cook by auto arriving before ten A.M. Alice came over to the afternoon meeting with William & Sarah Dunn in their Ford car. I took dinner at [page break] the home of President William L. Rich. I occupied a portion of the time of the morning session and Pres. Charles H. Hart spoke in the afternoon session.
I returned to Montpelier in the evening with William Dunn & folks & stayed the night.
24 August 1919 • Sunday
Alice and I rode to Paris with William & Sarah Dunn in time for the morning session of Conference. I spoke at all three sessions and at a Seventy’s meeting. I ordained the and set apart the new Bishopric of the Paris 1st ward and a counselor in the Bishopric of the Paris 2nd ward.
Alice & I returned to Montpelier after the evening meeting with Wm Dunn & wife.
25 August 1919 • Monday
Montpelier
I rode out to Wm Dunn’s ranch with him, 10 miles north of Montpelier in the morning. Attended High Council meeting of the Montpelier Stake at 10 A.M. and occupied about 35 minutes addressing them.
After noon Wm Dun took us for a car ride 16 miles South along the East side of Bear Lake to the warm Springs [page break] baths, thence eight miles along the turn pike road along the South side end of the lake to St. Charles, thence South about six or eight miles to Idlewild or Fish Haven and returned to Montpelier. We spent a pleasant day and evening together.

All well with us.
Mother & I left Montpelier at 8:45 A.M. and without special incident reached Salt Lake about 5:45 P.M.
On returning home we learned that Ina had had a miscarriage on Saturday the 23d and had been very ill but that she is now feeling pretty well, i.e. she is convalescing. Others well. I wrote up my journal for the past four days.

I visited and administered to Bro. Samuel F. Ball, Pres. J. G. Kimball, my sister Nerva and her daughter Alice.
I attended M.I.A. Board meeting & my prayr circle meeting and spent the evening at Salt Air with the Richards family in family reunion. I was elected chairman for the ensuing year. [page break]

All well at home.
The workmen commenced repair work on home.
I attended regular council meeting in the temple from 10 A.M. to about 3:40 P.M.
I visited my daughter in law Ina who had a miss carriage last Saturday and LeGrand & I administered to her.
Mother & I visited her sister Annie and Elder Rawlings, her son-in-law, and I administered to her.

Alice & I went to Garland where we attended the Bear River Stake Conference.
I attended Stake Priestood meeting at 11 A.M. and regular conference meeting at 2 P.M. and spoke at each meeting. Alice and I took dinner at Pres. Clarence E Smiths and Alice & I went to Ellwood with Pres. Hansen and spent the night. Alice visited her cousin Maggy Wilcox Manning

Alice & I accompanied Pres. Peter M Hansen from Ellwood to Garland to conference. Bro and. Jensen with us.
I attended 9 o’clock R. Class Convention meeting of workers, and assisted in the work. I occupied 20 min in the 10:30 meeting on the topic. Co-relation of Religion class work & home evening meetings.
I also occupied 30 min, in the afternoon meeting.
I assisted in setting apart a number of officers.
I met many old friends and went to Fielding after the afternoon meeting with my nephew Jos. Smith and my Sister Alice A. Smith. Joseph later took us to Collinston in his car and we came home arriving at Salt Lake at 11:30 During the day considerable rain fell so that the long dry spell is now broken.
