March comes in like a lamb.

I took Mother down to Nerva’s, between 6 & 7 So., 8th East. Had two new switches put in my Franklin lighting system, and had my car washed.

I delivered to the Presiding Patriarch’s office my record of Patriarchal blessings, this by suggestion of Pres. Grant that it should be kept in a safe or vault.

I spent a good share of the day at the Temple.

In the evening, I took Mother, Nerva & Geo. L. to the Americana Theater.

2 March 1926 • Tuesday

Home.

Beautiful day.

All well.

Mother & I went to the Temple as usual.

At 2:00 P.M. attended missionary meeting and I set apart four of the missionaries.

I went to the dentist in the evening and had my teeth treated.

3 March 1926 • Wednesday

I went to the Temple as usual. At the Temple meeting Sister Knight recited the Irish selection, “The wandering man.” Elder D. O. McKay was the speaker.

I took Sister Richards, Bro Christensen and several other sisters down to see Sister Edna L. Smith’s body at her home in state. Later I went to the funeral services in the 17th ward house. Sister R. went with me and we brought several people back to the Temple. Prests Grant & Nibley & Bp. N. G. Smith were the speakers. D. O. McKay offered the opening prayer and Pres Ivins the closing prayer. Jos F Smith Jr. the Dedication [page break] The services began at 12 o’clock and ended at 1:30. I returned to the Temple and attended to the sealing work as usual. Attended my circle meeting and later in the evening I went to the Dentist and had two teeth treated.

4 March 1926 • Thursday

I attended weekly council meeting in the Temple from 10: A.M. to about 3:30 P.M. Attended to my sealing work &c. At about 5:00 P.M. Sister R. & I took our daughter Edna with us in the car and went down to Mamies in Sugar House where other members of the family were visiting. I brought Mother Edna, Nerva, Lucena & Thelma home. Spent the remainder of the evening at home.

5 March 1926 • Friday

Sister R. & I went to the Temple as usual for the 8:25 A.M. meeting and we were busy there all day until about 5:30 I arranged for five of the girls of the family to come to the Temple tomorrow noon to be baptized for 106 dead females, at the instance of Stephen Longstroth. The Shackleton line.

I went to the dentist and had two of my teeth treated. Mother and I went to a show and after the Show we went up to George’s and he & I blessed their little boy Robert who is to have his tonsils out tomorrow.

After 11:00 oclock Mother & I went down to Sugar House, Mercedes having been taken suddenly with what seemed to be an acute attack of appendicitis. I administered to her. She had a fairly good night after an hour or so of excruciating pain & suffering. [page break] We went over to Nina’s and I blessed her for her health. She had a bad sore throat. It was nearly one o’clock when we got home. We appreciated our Franklin car.

6 March 1926 • Saturday

Home.

Nina & Mercedes are improved this morning. Robert Dewey, George’s son had his tonsils removed this morning.

Mother and I went to the Temple with some of our grand children for baptismal work. Sixty females and 40 males were baptized for. We went to a, show reception in the evening.

7 March 1926 • Sunday

The reception Sister R. & I attended last evening was at the home of Stephen L. Richards at which all the General Authorities in the city were in attendance with their wives.

Today I attended Sunday School and fast meeting and evening meeting in the 27th ward and after meeting Mother & I went down to Inas & Nina’s to See Nina & Mercedes who have been ill. Both are better.

8 March 1926 • Monday

I made up my Income Tax report for 1925 and filed it with the proper authorities.

Went to the Temple and answered correspondence &c.

I asked the Chief of Police for the privilege of parking my car without restrictions on main St. North of the East gate to the Temple. He said he [page break] thought they were not marking the cars up that far. I told him I wanted to be within the law. He said for me to try it. I take it that should my car be tagged he will see me safely over the difficulty.

I left the temple at 5:20 P.M. and went directly to the dentist’s home on Yale ave. by appointment and had further treatment of my teeth. Had several fillings put in.

9 March 1926 • Tuesday

Sister Richards and I went to the Temple as usual in the morning and spent the day busily from 8:15 A.M. to 7:15 P.M.

This is the 44th anniversary of our marriage. We both feel like continuing on as the end is getting nearer and nearer when we will close up the accounts of our partnership for this life. As we look back over the past 44 years we feel thankful for the measure of success that has attended us in a financial way; in a social way, in the number and quality of our family members, in honor conferred and in the success attending our labors for the church &c.

We have been greatly blessed from birth and in our parentage The Lord has been exceedingly good, kind and merciful unto us and ours. May his name be praised forever.

10 March 1926 • Wednesday

I spent about eleven hours in the Temple. Attended Circle meeting. Mother & I took Edith home from the Temple and then went down to Nerva’s for a while.

11 March 1926 • Thursday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual and attended weekly Council meeting in the Temple. I wrote to my son LeGrand in New Bedford, Mass.

At about 5:30 Mother & I left the Temple and with our Franklin, we went to Sugar House. Took Estella Lee home and brought Lucena back from Nina’s & later we went to the American on my invitation. Geo. & Edith, Chas and Edna and Lucena accompanied us.

12 March 1926 • Friday

We went to the Temple as usual in the early morning and left at 7:20 at night. A busy day.

13 March 1926 • Saturday

I took 8:15 A.M. train to Payson where I attended Nebo Stake Conference & P. Convention I spoke at both forenoon and afternoon meetings and took 5:15 train for home.

14 March 1926 • Sunday

I took my Franklin car and mother with me. We left for Payson at 7:45 and arrived there at 10:00 A.M. 66 miles. Attended forenoon and afternoon meetings and occupied about 50 min. at former Met with H council & Bishops and set apart two H. Counselors, a Bp & 1st counselor. Left for home at 5:20 [page break] and arrived home at about 8:00 P.M. no stops going or coming.

15 March 1926 • Monday

Beautiful weather

I attended to some business outside the temple and did my usual deskwork at the temple.

Mother & I called on A. D. Miller Jr. his 2 yr old baby having died last night We took Ina & her two daughters Norrine, Marian & Ray to the American. We went to Sugar house and got them & returned them We took A D Miller Jr Alices’ Cousin & wife & Son to the depot to take 11:50 P.M. train with their dead boy. I blessed Brs. Geo. W. Lundquist of Cache Stake Presidency. Heart trouble.

16 March 1926 • Tuesday

Beautiful weather.

Mother & I went to the temple in the morning as usual, where I had a busy day. Assisted in setting apart and instructing a company of missionaries Attended a U.I.V. Co Meeting of directors at 4: We left for home about 7:30 P.M.

17 March 1926 • Wednesday

Mother & I met the 7:50 A.M. U.P. train and Pres. Roberts who is bringing the body of his wife home from N. Y. for burial.

Attended the 8:30 Temple meeting and presided as usual, Willard Young the speaker. I sealed 14 couples being, one dead & 10 children.

Attended funeral services of Sister Margarets, wife of Elder B. H. Roberts in 18th ward, leaving at 1:00 P.M. to do my sealing work at the Temple. Rulon S. Wells & O. F. Whitney had spoken. [page break]

18 March 1926 • Thursday

I went to the temple in the morning as usual. Attended weekly Council meeting in the Temple. Sealed eight or ten couples living and a number of children to parents.

By invitation of Pres. Grant I attended the Church Board of Education meeting from 3 to 5:15 P.M. Mother & I attended a birthday reception in honor of Susa Young Gates at the Lyon House in the evening. We took Sister Jos. F. Smith & her two daughters home and inspected their new home near Yale and 13th st.

19 March 1926 • Friday

We attended to our duties at the Temple as usual.

Visited Aunt Zina Y. Card and I blessed her for her health & healing of the leg. She has a bad case of Eczema.

I wrote to my Son Oliver in Frankfurt, Germany and to my grandchildren, Geo & Alice Cannon.

20 March 1926 • Saturday

I spent about six hours working about the home. Raking the lawn, trimming the vines &c. Mother & I visited Sister Clara Grundy at the County Hospital and I administered to her a blessing. We also visited sister Mary Clark of Forest Dale who has been ill a long time.

We called at the homes of our daughters Mamie & Nina. Later we went to the American show house.

21 March 1926 • Sunday

Beautiful day.

I arose at 6:15 A.M. and after having a bath &c I went to the Temple and did some studying. [page break]

I attended the three meetings of the Salt Lake Stake Conference and spoke at the morning sessions in the Assembly Hall. The afternoon and evening meetings were held in the Tabernacle. I & my family, Mother, Estella & Ray took dinner at my daughter Ednas and between afternoon & evening meetings I took Mother, Edna & Charles down to Inas & got her with us & we went for a ride out south while visiting. Edna did not want to go in the home as some of the children have Whooping Cough.

22 March 1926 • Monday

Home.

Beautiful weather.

I did some work about the house before breakfast. Went to the Temple and at 10:00 met the recorder & the auditor & with them decided to change our system of filing at three places in our recording department in order to expedite the work. This will necessitate the purchase of filing cabinets, something we have not had in those departments before.

I obtained an interview with the First Presidency and with Recorder Jos. Christensen presented to them the question of permitting Sister Sampson to continue going to the Temple, it being a question of whether or not she was of Negro blood.1 The matter was taken under advisement by the Presidency.

I went to Sugar House and took dinner with Nina at 7:00 P.M. Mother & Estella were there also.

23 March 1926 • Tuesday

I went to the Temple as usual. Had an interview with the Presidency. Attended meeting of the Church Bd. of Education. Attended to some business outside and took Mother and aunt Annie Steed down to Nervas and got her and went for a ride down through Liberty Park & Wasatch Lawn Cemetery on Hyland Drive. Returned to the Temple & set apart Rosa May Smith Barber a regular Temple worker. Mother & I left the Temple at about 7:10 P.M. for home where we spent the evening.

I sent a bank draft of $110.00 to Oliver by registered letter today.

I wrote to my son LeGrand.

24 March 1926 • Wednesday

Home.

Beautiful day.

Am well.

I arose at 6:00 A.M. and scattered Lawn fertilizer, 50 lbs, over the lawn and with the hose sprinkled the lawn.

Went to the Temple as usual. Pres W. F. Smith of Ensign Stake was speaker at the morning meeting.

Bro. Chas. G. Shill, one of our workers, was taken ill and I took him home in my car and before leaving him I administered with him.

Attended to the Sealing & other work as usual in the Temple.

Attended my prayer circle meeting in the evening as usual.

Charles and Edna bought a new Chrysler Sedan to-day and in the evening called and took Mother & me around a few blocks. [page break]

25 March 1926 • Thursday

Home.

Weather colder but clear.

Mother & I went to the Temple in the morning as usual. Bryant S. Hinckley was speaker at the Temple meeting.

I sealed nine living couples & a number of children.

Attended weekly council meeting and later a meeting of the Twelve. We left for home about 7:00 P.M. We rode out with Charles & Edna in their new car and later in the Franklin.

26 March 1926 • Friday

Beautiful day.

I had a busy day at the temple as usual. In the evening Mother & I went to the Wilkes & saw “The Bob.”

27 March 1926 • Saturday

I took 7:00 A.M. train for Morgan, arriving at 9:30 when I was met by Stake President H. Howard Randall and taken to Church House. I considered with the Stake Presidency important matters and attended and spoke at the forenoon and afternoon meetings and took 4:00 P.M. train for home. Cold day.

28 March 1926 • Sunday

I took 7:00 A.M. train again for Morgan, Geo. H. Brimhall went along in the interest of Seminary work. We attended and spoke at the regular conference meetings at 10:00 A.M. & 2:00 P.M. and set apart a number of officers between meetings. We reorganized the Stake Suptcy of Y.M.M. and set apart two Bishoprics, Slide & Morgan.

Returned at 4:00 P.M. train. Ruby was met at depot with my car. Mother Ray & Ruby [page break]

29 March 1926 • Monday

Home.

With my car I took Mother, Mamie, Ruby & Nina down town shopping.

A number of the family took dinner with us.

I attended to some business down town and then went to the temple and attended to accumulated work.

Received $100.00 from Pres. E. J. Wood of Cardston or, OK of land sale, &c.

30 March 1926 • Tuesday

I attended regular Temple meeting from 8:30 to 9:00 and Quarterly meeting of the Twelve from 9:30 to 6:30 P.M. except for a recess while we got lunch and set apart a company of missionaries.

In the evening Mother & I went to the American Theater.

31 March 1926 • Wednesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Attended to important business outside. Attended my Circle meeting in the evening.
