Warm weather All pretty well. [page break]

I attended Council meeting of the Presidency & the Twelve. fasting

Got out at 2:30.

Attended to some business down town.

Accepted invitation of my son George for Alice & me to accompany him & Edith in his Ford up to New Brighton to stay over night. We accepted the invitation.

2 July 1920 • Friday

Brighton

All well except Lucena.

I left Brighton at 10:55 A.M. and arrived home, 30 miles, in about 1 hr. 35 min. This is the first time any of our party had been to Brighton.

The scenery getting there is beautiful.

I took a cold water bath on reaching home and felt much refreshed.

Our party consisted of nine adult persons viz. my son Geo. & wife, Dr. Bird & wife, Dr. Closson and wife and his sisterinlaw the three latter from Kansas City Mo.

3 July 1920 • Saturday

Home.

I attended Book of Mormon Committee meeting at 9 A.M.

Spent several hours in my office and towards evening accompanied members of my family to Saltair. [page break]

4 July 1920 • Sunday

Home.

I fasted and attended temple fast meeting. By request of Pres. Heber J. Grant I made opening remarks. I spoke upon the principle of sustaining the authorities and being in harmony with them in all things.

Bore my testimony to the divine calling and guidance of present leaders. My remarks were as a torch and the testimonies & remarks which followed were as the conflagration. A good meeting was had, many testimonies were born President Grant speaking last. Mother, Joel & Georgina were present. We four and Ray & Joel’s three boys went to Kaysville and attended the funeral services of Alice Watt Layton 55 yrs old. I was the concluding speaker. The services were held in the tabernacle. The attendance was large the house being well filled. The floral tributes were profuse. The testimonies as to Sister Layton’s life & faithfulness were satisfactry.

I attended the services in the 27th ward in the evening at which Dr. Jos. H. Grant was the speaker.

My sons George & LeGrand with their families called on us later in the evening. This has been a happy day. [page break]

5 July 1920 • Monday

Home.

This day is celebrated the country over, the Fourth having come on Sunday.

Mother and I remained home all day. Estella Lee and six of the children came in from Tooele. We entertained them and in the evening I took Estella Lee, our Estella, Mother & Rega & Lucena to the Cacino show.

6 July 1920 • Tuesday

At home.

I attended two sessions of the Book of Mormon committee and attended to other business.

In the evening I attended the Empress show with other members of the family.

7 July 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

By invitation of Bro. Jesse W. Knight of Provo, Pres. Rudger Clawson and I took 6 A.M. train for Provo and from there accompanied Bro Knight & others on a trip of inspection of the Tintic Drain Tunnel Co’s. properties in Goshun and Tintic &c. We traveled about 125 miles by auto. Bro Knight gave to the Presidency & members of the Twelve one thousand shares each of stock in this company down to S.L.R. I think the others came in later to the council later. We returned to Salt Lake at 9 P.M. [page break]

Lucena & children have been staying with us for a few days and George took them home in his car after 11 P.M. Mother & I and Oliver & Ray rode down with them.

8 July 1920 • Thursday

Home.

All well.

No council meeting to-day, an adjournment having been taken last week over this week.

I spent most of the day at home and in the evening Mother, Ray & I accompanied Clarence Silver & Orin Woodbury up to Pine Crest in Emigration Canyon where we stayed over night. Mamie & Nina were up there. Lucena, Rega & Estella preceded us going with James Miner.

Estella also remained over night.

9 July 1920 • Friday

Canyon.

Returned from the canyon and attended 10 A.M. B. of M. Committee meeting of three hours duration.

Attended funeral sevices for Geo C. Parkinson held in the 21st ward house at 2 P.M.

Attended evening Oretorio “The Creation” on University of Utah grounds.

I set apart Abraham a missionary to the Netherlands. [page break]

Home.

Hot weather

I sat in committee on B. of M. from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. With other members of my family I went to Saltair and had a lake bath.

11 July 1920 • Sunday

Home.

Warm day.

With Geo & family, Mother, Ray and I went to Tooele and visited with our folks there and George & I attended and both spoke at the Sunday School and meeting of the South ward. We returned in the evening.

12 July 1920 • Monday

Home.

Warm weather

I attended two sessions of the B. of M. Committee of 3 hrs. each and attended to some office work. Retired early.

13 July 1920 • Tuesday

I arose at 5:20 A.M. and attended to some work at my desk before breakfast.

Attended two committee meetings of 3 hours each. Attended missionary meeting and set apart five missionaries.

LeGrand, Joel and Clarence with their families called on us in the evening, also Orin, Nina & baby.

14 July 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

I put in full day on B. of M. Contents. Mother, Lucena & I rode out [page break] with Geo. & Edith in the evening.

15 July 1920 • Thursday

Home.

All well.

I was in the temple in council from 10 A.M. to 3:40 P.M.

Spent some time in my office on B of M. Contents &c.

16 July 1920 • Friday

Worked at my office all day. I am revising and enlarging the Contents of the Book of Mormon, as a subcommittee. In the evening I accompanied my three sons, Geo., LeGrand & Joel with our wives to Saltair & had a lake bath. Later I took train for Milford.

17 July 1920 • Saturday

Pres. B H Roberts and I arrived in Milford at 8:30 A.M. We got stage to Beaver and leaving Milford at 9:15, we reached Beaver at 10:30— 32 miles. Round trip auto stage fare was $3.50

We attended morning & afternoon conference and evening priesthood meeting

I spoke at former and latter.

We stayed at the home of Pres. McGreggor.

18 July 1920 • Sunday

Beaver.

Am well. Warm weather.

I attended conference meetings and spoke at the afternoon meeting for about [page break] 60 minutes. Subject— Two powers, God & Satan. War in heaven— Fight continues. Whom are we serving. We should follow our captains. Thy will be done. Pres. Roberts spoke well as he usually does. Trouble among the brethren gave us considerable anxiety. We devoted hours of time trying to effect reconciliation Water troubles and bankruptcy cause and will have to be settled in the courts.

We left for home after 4 P.M.

19 July 1920 • Monday

Arrived home from Beaver on 6 A.M. train found the folks usually well.

I spent the day in my office. In the evening Mother, Lucena and I accompanied Clarence and Mamie in their car to Farmington. We called on Jos. S. Clark and he and I administered to the Son Oliver who had just been brought home from N.Y. seriously ill with the “Sleeping disease.’

20 July 1920 • Tuesday

I worked at my office and in committee all day. Mother & I rode out with George & Edith in evening.

21 July 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

Very warm weather.

Worked at my office and in committee all day.

Mother & I rode out a short [page break] time with George in evening.

Lucena and family who have been staying with us for several days went home to-day. She has not been feeling well.

22 July 1920 • Thursday

Home.

Attended weekly Council meeting in temple from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. Did office work. Assisted Pres. Clawson in administering to a Sister Larson of San Pete Co.

In the evening I rode down to LeGrands’ in Sugar Hous. Geo. trimmed my hair. Mother, Edith and others went along.

23 July 1920 • Friday

I worked in my office all day on B of M Contents. In the evening I accompanied Mother & Estella to a show.

24 July 1920 • Saturday

Home.

All well.

We had a good rain in the night. Cloudy this A.M.

My sons George, LeGrand, Hugh, Rega, Orin and Clarence and I with our families left home about 5 A.M. and went up Lambs canyon off Parley’s canyon where we spent a pleasant day.

We returned arriving home before dark & had no mishaps. [page break]

We camped on the lakeshore. The children rode on a raft. Some of us played rook, others read and the men folks jumped, had tug of war &c.

The canyon is most beautiful, especially the last two or three miles at the top.

25 July 1920 • Sunday

I spent 3½ hrs in the forenoon and 3¾ hours in afternoon in meeting with General Authorities and General Board members of all the boards in consideration of convention work for the Auxiliaries.

In the evening I attended 27th ward meeting. Sterling Talmage was the speaker.

26 July 1920 • Monday

One year ago yestereday Mother & I arrived home from England.

This day I worked at my office principally on B of M. contents revision. Mother & I rode out with Geo. & Edith for a short time.

27 July 1920 • Tuesday

I worked at my desk until 5 P.M. Then attended a general board meeting of the Y.M.M. and later a conjoint Bd. meeting of Y.M. & Y.L. [page break]

28 July 1920 • Wednesday

Home.

Warm. All well.

I worked at my office as usual. We as a B. of M. committee went before the Presidency and recommended that in the new plate edition of double columns we are getting out an introductory we used from the Prophets own story of his first vision and the coming forth of the B. of M. It was taken under advisement.

29 July 1920 • Thursday

I attended weekly Council meeting in the temple between 10 A.M. and 3:45 P.M. Did some office work.

30 July 1920 • Friday

I left Salt Lake in Company with Bros. Newel K. Young of R. Classes; Bro Harold Reynolds of S. Schools; Sister Talmage of Y.L.M.; Sister Crawford of Primaries and Sister Kesler of the Reliefsocieties for Loa in Wayne Stake. We were met at Sigurd by two autos and driven to Loa 45 miles.

I staid at Pres. Eckersleys while in Loa. He and I administered to a sister Reece.

31 July 1920 • Saturday

Loa.

Attended the various meetings of the Wayne Stake Conference and group convention. [page break] I treated the subject of the tobacco evil in the morning session. Attended a dance in the evening but did not dance.
