Speakers were Elder R. R. Lyman, myself and Pres. Grant. I <occupied 12 mins.> referred to my visit there to their recent conference & said, we had a good conference. We may not remember what was said but we will remember what was felt. Story of the woman and the beautiful sermon, her linnen bleaches white &c. It is well to be impressed often of the truth & beauty of the Gospel. This is usually accomplished in our meetings. We are made more appreciative of the gospel & live better lives house more secure in our salvation &c. Pres. Grant & wife, Sister R. & I stayed at the home of Pres. McGreggor.

In my talk I quoted “Except ye are one ye are none of mine” & “Live together in love so as to mourn for those who die,” and commented. Had good liberty.

I occupied about 17 min. Good liberty. Where the Lord offers knowledge or blessing & we reject it we are damned. Temple ordinances most choice, offered and by many rejected & trampled under foot. This is a great sin in the sight of the Lord. Follow church leaders & [page break] their instructions & live our daily religion & be safe. Salvation in jeopardy. Make your election sure.

Alice & I stayed at the home of the Stake clerk, Franklin B. Wood.

St. George

All well.

Warm day.

Convention work continued.

I attended the meetings and looked after R.C. work.

I spoke briefly in two of the general assemblies. Sub. Sund. Evening, Topics. Evils of tobacco & social work. If we were as obedient as we should be following the example of our Master to do the will of God these problems would be overcome. We are to be the salt of the earth, a light upon a hill. If the Word of Wisdom revelation does not command obedience, the Decalogue does viz. Honor thy father & thy mother. To use tobacco reproaches them & is dishonoring them whether they be living or dead. At afternoon Sund. I quoted, “Get Somebody Else” and told the story Gerhardt the Shepherd boy.

We have been very comfortable while in St George at the home of Bro Geo. F. Whitehead. [page break]

13 September 1920 • Monday

St. George.

All well.

Our company left St. George about 9 A.M. and arrived at Tokerville at 11 A.M. where we attended meeting. I spoke upon the subject of the Godhead and faith centering in him. We are candidates for “Eternal Life” which can be obtained only through obedience to the Gospel, by self denial and sacrifice. It requires faith to meet these demands. A proper conception of God necessary to the exercise of such faith.

We took dinner with a widow, Sister Naigley.

After dinner we drove to Laverkin where we held meeting. <3 P.M.> I spoke 16 minutes. Subject, we have need of being impressed with the necessity of doing as well as we know. It has ever been a weakness of men to think that faith alone is necessary to salvation. Jesus, Jos., and others taught the contrary Quotations made. After meeting we drove over to the Virgin. River to the Sulphur Springs and had a bath, thence on to Hurricane ward where we attended a meeting. 400 reported present. I spoke about 15 min. Commended the people on their accomplishment and spoke of the L.D.S. as colonizers. Read Church of England Art XI on faith and commented.

Alice & I, Bro. & Sis Lyman & Bertha Ivvins stayed at Bro. & Sis. Hales.

14 September 1920 • Tuesday

Our company consisting of two car loads left for Zion’s canyon about 9 A.M. Arrived at Wyley’s [page break] camp about mid-day. We had dinner there and then with two carriages & two extra horses furnished by Springdale Bishopric we went on up above the Weeping rock & cable to where we could see the narrows. This is surely a wonderland; natures garden. While it differs from other National parks it is of itself one of the greatest. The women of the party stayed over night at the camp and Pres. Grant, Elder Lyman and I went down the Canyon to Springdale where we attended a public meeting and all spoke. 130 of 260 pop. present. After Pres Grant & Elder R. R. Lyman had spoken they left for Rockville where they attended another meeting. I spoke 40 min. after they left and stayed at the home of Bp. Hepworth over night.

We left the park about 1 P.M. and rode to Parowan arriving about 7 P.M. All took supper at Bp. Mortensons’ except Elder Lyman & wife who went to the home of Wm Lyman. Alice & I went [page break] to Bro. Wilford Day’s home to stay for the night. At the meeting I spoke 17 min and spoke of homesteaders, their tribulations which typify our trials in life in the sense that the people making a home are happy in anticipation of that which is to be. My own experience in home making.

While in Provo Elder Lyman administered to Sister Brown. Our trip of 12 days has been one full of pleasant things to be remembered. The St George Stake Conference; the home coming festivities and the Zions National Park opening fur[page break]nishing the principal attractions. The meetings going & coming were also an important feature. The company and association with one another and with the people is another.
