I spent most of the forenoon at home and the afternoon at the Temple. I wrote to my daughter Estella at Tremonton. Had my car washed, greased, oil changed &c.
My Son George spent some time with me at my office room on business matters. Heavy rain fall in business district of City. Slight rain East of 10th East St.
2 August 1930 • Saturday
Stormy day.
I spent the forenoon at home and the afternoon at the Temple.
3 August 1930 • Sunday
Warm day.
Mother & I attended Fast meeting in 27th ward, at 11:00 A.M. We attended funeral Services of Jacob Peter Olsen held in Nibley Ward Chapel. I was one of the speakers. In fast meeting I offered closing prayer. We called to see F. S. Richards but were told that he was sleeping so did not get to see him. We called on Estella Lee at her home, on our daughter Nerva & Nina. Our Son George spent an hour or two with us in the evening. [page break]
Just at this time George here and LeGrand in Glendale, Cal. are having business anxiety. The business over which George has been presiding as mgr. since LeGrand went to Cal. is about to change hands or quit business. Geo. has had an offer made him to take over the business. He has invited LeGrand to come take hold of the business again. LeGrand Says that business in Glendale is rotten and he may have to sever his connections with Nibley & Cannon.
4 August 1930 • Monday
I took Mother down to Mamie’s in Sugar House before going to the Temple. Spent a busy day at the Temple. Took Supper at Mamie’s and in my car went for an evening ride with Clarence, Mamie & children.
5 August 1930 • Tuesday
Mother, Jos. Christensen & I went shopping and bought a carpet for the Dining room on 4th room of the Temple 60 yards @ $5.00 including padding and laying. We had ordered a carpet from Z.C.M.I. but found that they hadn’t enough in stock. We then had them order it from the East & they found that they hadn’t it in Stock and would have to make it specially at added cost and it would require four weeks time. We canceled the order and could find nothing else at Z.C.M.I. that we liked.

Mother & I spent sometime at the Temple & picked out some material for Valese Curtains in Temple. After Supper, i.e. at 6:00 P.M. Mother & I took in our auto George & Nerva & Alberta Gallagher for a ride. We went up City Creek Canyon to the Rotary Grove. We called at the Maseleum and inspected same. After 9: P.M. George & Edith, Mother & I went to a show.
9 August 1930 • Saturday
Lucena’s 37th Birthday anniversary.
I spent most of the forenoon at home. Called at the Temple and at about 12:30 left for Tremonton with Mother, Delphia and Dorothy. We called and saw Edna in Ogden. Spent a pleasant evening & part of the afternoon with Ruby & Estella & family & Spent the night there. Weather Cool & pleasant.
10 August 1930 • Sunday
Nerva’s birthday.
Tremonton.
We spent a pleasant day with Spencer & Estella and left for home about 6:00 P.M. Ruby returned with us.
11 August 1930 • Monday
Temple opened for ordinance work after having been closed for renovation for 6 weeks.
I spoke at the morning meeting. Had a busy day though the companies were not large. Mother and I went through with the evening session [page break]

All usually well.
Floods are doing much damage throughout the country. Davis County is especially hard hit. We had a busy day at the Temple and Mother & I went through [in] the evening.
14 August 1930 • Thursday
I attended meeting of the Twelve at 9: A.M., of the Twelve & Presidency at 10:00 A.M. to about 1:30. Sealed about 15 couples living. &c I worked at my desk in the evening preparing Priesthood Conference program for the 4th quarter.

15 August 1930 • Friday
I spent a busy day at the Temple and until about 7: P.M. when Mother & I left and went to the Robin Hood Opera Concert at Calders lake, Nibley Park. We took Ruby & Sister Bertha Teasdale with us.
16 August 1930 • Saturday
At Home.
All usually well

I spent most of the forenoon at home and took Mother Shopping. Spent the Afternoon at the Temple. Worked upon program for Priesthood Conference convention of the Church. Filled my appointment in the West Jordan Stake attending evening Stake Conference meeting in West Jordan Ward Chapel. I addressed the people for about 40 minutes. [page break]

I attended West Jordan Stake Conference held in West Jordan Ward at 10:00 & 2:00 o’clock. I spoke at both meetings.
I met the Stake Presidency at 9:00 A.M., and had a profitable meeting, this at my request.
After meeting I visited with some of my family at Ninas, viz.: Spencer & Estella & children, Edna, Ruby, Joel & family &c.
18 August 1930 • Monday
I had a busy day at the Temple. I spent the evening at the temple working on Priesthood Convention Conference for the church.
19 August 1930 • Tuesday
My daughter Ruby & I played a game of golf in the early morning. I took my car and with me, Mother, Ruby, Sisters Forester, Teasdale and Hollings up as far as Farmington to see the effects of the recent devastating floods. Later I took Mother, Ruby and Nerva to Saltair & later to the Capitol after lunching at Keeleys. A full day of pleasure. I also attended to a marriage & other Temple work.
20 August 1930 • Wednesday
Warm day.
Mother & I went to the Temple as usual for the 9:00 A.M. Temple meeting. Geo J. Cannon Speaker.
I had a very busy day at my desk and sealings &c.

I attended 9: A.M. meeting of the Twelve. 10:00 A.M. meeting of the Presidency & the Twelve. Visited Sisters Moss and Asey at the Hospital and Elder Geo A Smith at his home. Attended to work at my desk in the Temple &c.
22 August 1930 • Friday
I had repair made on my car a [Callhans?]1 at a cost of $3.15 Body & Spare wheel connection, right side.
I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Called on Bro. Chris. Ahlster and blessed him. Called on Pres Grant at his office & presented matters found in Pres. Moyle’s & Pres. Jones’ letter’s pertaining to Temple Recommends. A busy day. I visited Joseph Wilson and administered to him. Mother & I Visited my brother Franklin S. and found C. C. our brother there & we administered to Franklin.
23 August 1930 • Saturday
I played a game of golf with Geo & Edith in the late afternoon.
I spent part of the day at the Temple and part at home.
I made ready and took 11:30 P.M. train for Idaho Falls.
24 August 1930 • Sunday
On train. Warm
I had a good night’s sleep and rest. During the night I dreamed of receiving into my arms my two diceased children, Amy & Alverda. I arrived in Idaho Falls about 8:15 A.M. Pres. Leonard G. Ball met me at the Ry Station. Attended a meeting of the Stake Presidency at 9: A.M. and the Stake Conference meeting at 10: and 2: [page break] I spoke at each meeting.
Attended High Council meeting at 12:15 P.M. I set apart the Bishopric of Lincoln Ward and six High Councilors. I took dinner at Pres. Smiths Home & supper at Pres. Balls home. I got 6:35 P.M. train for home.
25 August 1930 • Monday
I spent a busy day at the Temple Mother, Ruby, Nerva & others went out to Salt Air on the 5:30 P.M. train to bathes. I spent the evening at my desk in the Temple. Had several callers. I administered a blessing to Bro. Israel Call & sent him home in the middle of the afternoon an ill man. The folks got home from the lake after 11:30 P.M.
26 August 1930 • Tuesday
I played a game of golf with Jos. Anderson & made a record of 46. Bro Call was back at the Temple this morning feeling practically well He said he felt that he was healed when I blessed him yesterday and has not been sick since. May the Lord be praised. I made a two o’clock appointment with Elder Orson F. Whitney for a committee meeting to arrange a program for the Priesthood Conferences of the Stakes to be held in the fourth quarter of this year, we having been appointed to program for that conference. Our meeting was of one hr. 30 min. duration and was one of harmony & progress.

27 August 1930 • Wednesday
I spent a busy day at the Temple. Mother & I.
I took a car load of workers down to 9th South & Main and saw the 72 tones weight Whale and heard a lecture pertaining to the whale. I later took Mother & Sarah to see the Whale, Mother was too busy to go with first load.
We spent the early evening at the Temple and later Mother & I with Geo. & Edith as our guests went to a show.
28 August 1930 • Thursday
Attended 9:00 A.M. meeting of the Twelve at the Temple. Attended 10:00 A.M. meeting & prayer circle of the First Presidency, the Twelve & Patriarch. We lunched at 1:00 P.M. and continued our work.
The Presidency appointed the Twelve to examine the D & Covenants with the view to selecting therefrom certain sections or parts of sections to have bound into a book for the Missions. Pres. Clawson appointed as a committee to attend to that work the following:
Geo. F. Richards, David O. McKay, Jos. F. Smith & J. E. Talmage.
Sister R & I went to the Lagoon on complimentary tickets and were gone 2½ hrs, returning to the Temple. On our way home after 9: P.M. we called on Annie Steed, who is ill & just returned from California.
29 August 1930 • Friday
Mother & I went to the Temple as usual. After the 9:00 A.M. meeting, Jos. F. Smith, Jos. Christensen & I set apart Geo. L. Tate, Kate McCallister & Orson Rega Card in the order named. I set apart Rega & Geo L. and [page break] Joseph F. Smith set apart Sister McAllister. These have been in our employ for a long time but had never been set apart.
We left the Temple about 5:00 P.M. & spent the evening at home. Clarence & Mamie called and left their three Children with us, as they are to leave for Grand Canyon in the morning.
30 August 1930 • Saturday
I went to the Temple soon after 8 o’clock and worked at my desk. I bought a $40.00 money order and sent to my Son Ray in Germany. I wrote to Ray. I remained at the Temple until about five or six o’clock. My daughters Edna & Estella came and Oliver & Marie & Lucena & Rega called in the evening.
31 August 1930 • Sunday
I took 6:50 A.M. train for Bancroft, Idaho. Arrived at Bancroft at 1:25 P.M. I was met by the members of the Stake Presidency and taken to the Stake offices where we administered to Bettie Hogan. Here we met Bro. Keplar Sessions by appointment and interviewed him as to his call to be a Patriarch. Found him [willing?] & appreciative. I attended the afternoon session of the conference & was one of the speakers and ordained Bro Sessions a Patriarch & set him apart to labor in the Idaho Stake. Bro. Brimhall & May Anderson returned on same train with me, leaving Bancroft at 4:08 and arriving in Salt Lake at 11:30 P.M. Weather warm during the day but cool & pleasant at night. [page break]
