1 November 1922 • Wednesday

I attended to my temple duties and attended a meeting of the General Authorities and Presidencies of the 7 stakes in S.L. Co. and a separate meeting with the General Authorities by themselves. We were agreed to work for the election of Ben Harries for election on the 7th for the office of Sheriff for the purpose of having a county & city house cleaning. [page break] I attended my circle meeting in the evening. Storming.

2 November 1922 • Thursday

Snowed most all day.

I paid $200.00 on my $500 note at the Bank. I was the Speaker at the Temple meeting. Attended regular Council meeting of the Presidency and the Twelve from 10 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Did some sealing and other temple work. Set apart three temple workers. I blessed Bro. John W. Lively and Bro. J. F. Smith blessed Sister Lively for their trip to Gt Britain where they are about to go on a visit. Alice & Nina & Orin & I went through the temple in the evening session.

3 November 1922 • Friday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I set apart three missionaries one of which is my son-in-law Frank Orin Woodbury to the Swiss & German Mission. Nina took the blessing in short hand.

Attended the farewell reception held for Orin in Sugar House in the evening and made remarks. $110.00 was donated. I administered a blessing to Sister Merrill by her request.

4 November 1922 • Saturday

Yesterday was a stormy day and it turned cold at night. Today it is snowing hard. [page break] I went to the temple as usual but later than usual. I spent most of the day at the Temple and the evening at home.

5 November 1922 • Sunday

Snow is melting fast.

Alice and I went by street car down to Aunt Louise Richards & from there on foot to Estellas Lee’s & to Mamie’s. Clarence took us with auto to Sarah’s and Hugh brought us home. While at Mamie’s, Clarence & I administered to Mamie, little Clarence and Marjeri and at Sarah’s Hugh & I administered to Sarah and to little Alice. At the 27th ward fast meeting I made the opening remarks by request and at the evening meeting I offered the opening prayer, N. G. Morgan, the speaker.

6 November 1922 • Monday

I spent part of the day at the temple and spent about three hours with the Presidency, members of the Twelve and Stake Presidents of the stakes between Ogden & Provo, considering S. School & Priesthood classes, &c. I presented to the Presidency several matters of importance pertaining to Temple ordinances.

This is the last evening Orin, has at home before leaving for his mission, and members of the family came in to see him so that it was 12 o’clock when I went to bed. [page break]

7 November 1922 • Tuesday

Election Day.

I cast my vote before going to the Temple. This day my son-in-law F. Orin Woodbury leaves for his mission to Switzerland & Germany. I went as far as Ogden with him. Spent the evening at home and retired early.

Alice fell down stairs and hurt her back quite badly.

8 November 1922 • Wednesday

I went to the temple as usual. Remained to 6:30 Prayer Circle. Much important business transacted at Temple, setting apart workers &c. After circle I went home and retired at 10 P.M.

9 November 1922 • Thursday

I made furnace fire, shaved bathed and after making my toilet took 6:40 A.M. car for the Temple where I attended to my duties as usual. At 10 A.M. I went into Council meeting with the Presidency & Twelve and continued until 1 P.M. My son and my wife stood as Proxy and I sealed up eleven of our own couples and several sheets of families, children to parents in addition to the regular sealings which I performed. Alice & I went through the temple in the evening session. I was in the temple 16½ hours today.

10 November 1922 • Friday

I attended to my duties at the temple as usual. Assisted in setting apart a company of 9 [page break] missionaries and instructed them.

My daughter Mamie is very ill with a sore throat, tonsillitis or quinsy. The Doctor lanced the tonsils today.

I went through the Temple in the evening session for Jonathan Wood.

11 November 1922 • Saturday

Four years ago this day the Armistis was signed which ended the great world war in which the U.S. played a conspicuous and important part in the preservation of the world’s civilization and freedom.

I spent some hours at the Temple as usual. Mother & I went down to Mamie’s home in Sugar House and found her crying with the pain of quinsy or tonsillitis. I administered to her and Mother gave her treatment of hot cloths and she soon felt like a new woman having relief from the pain and being quite cheerful. Clarence brought us home in his car. We later visited Brother Wm W. Kind and I administered to him. He has a bad case of diabetis.

12 November 1922 • Sunday

I attended the Ensign Stake High Priest’s quorum meeting held in Ensign ward house at 10:30 A.M. and offered the invocation. Mother, Nina & all our family at home, took dinner at Edith’s. Mother, George and Edith [page break] and I attended the Armistice services in the Large Tabernacle. We later attended services in the 27th ward.

13 November 1922 • Monday

I took 7:20 A.M. car for my work at the temple. Cold morning. Attended special service in the morning. About 60 girls were down from Ogden, Weber Stake. Attended to the regular duties at the temple leaving for home after 6 o’clock. Spent the evening at home and retired about 10 P.M. after a good hot bath.

14 November 1922 • Tuesday

Attended to my duties at the temple as usual. Spoke at the funeral services of Bro. Fred. Ellis Barker in the 18th Ward chapel.

Spent the evening at home. Left the temple about 6:20 P.M.

15 November 1922 • Wednesday

I was the speaker at the Temple meeting. I also spoke at the funeral services of Sister Perrett held in Ensign Stake ward house. I attended my circle meeting in the evening. I sealed several couples and a number of children. While I was away the Patriarch, Hyrum G. Smith sealed the couples from the second session.

16 November 1922 • Thursday

I took 7:20 A.M. car for my work at the temple.

My head aches from a cold. Attended weekly council [page break] meeting from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. Attended to Temple duties the remainder of the day and went through with the evening company for James Gill.

17 November 1922 • Friday

I attended to my temple duties and spoke at the funeral services of Sister Emanuel Backman Took 11:50 train for Blackfoot, Ida.

18 November 1922 • Saturday

Arrived at 8 A.M. Was met by Pres. Nofear Davis and escorted to the home of President James Duckworth where I made my stay while in Blackfoot. Pres. Duckworth recently returned from the L.D.S. Hospital in Salt Lake where he was operated upon for double hernia.

I attended and spoke at 10 A.M. and 2 P.M. conference meetings. The latter was in the nature of a Stake Priesthood and officers meeting and I spoke for about 40 minutes to the whole body before they separated and then again to the Priesthood by themselves. I recommended a discontinuance of the Priesthood meeting in connection with Stake Conference and that a Stake Priesthood and officers meeting be held once a month on the week day or evening. It was agreed that the changes proposed by me be made and that the monthly meeting be held on the 1st Saturday of each month at 2 P.M. com[page break]mencing with the 1st Saturday in December.

19 November 1922 • Sunday

Blackfoot, Ida.

I attended and spoke at the morning and afternoon meetings and at a High Council meeting of the H. Council at 12:15 P.M. Released Brother Heber C. C. Rich from the Stake Presidency because his home is 16 miles from Blackfoot so that he cannot render the needed service in the bishopric Presidency. Nofear Davis was advanced to 1st Counselor and Peter G. Johnston was made 2nd Counselor to President Duckworth. I set apart a H. Counselor and an alternate H. Counselor and administered to several sick people. During the conference I treated the subjects of individual religious responsibility and duty; Duty as officials to serve where wanted; Honor Parents, posterity & the Lord, how & why? Oneness & unity, its necessity, how promoted, how divide the people. &c. I took 8:05 train for home. My daughter Sarah gave birth to a fine baby boy in early morning to day.

20 November 1922 • Monday

Arrived in Salt Lake from Blackfoot at 7:15 A.M. Went home to breakfast & shaved and thence to the temple. Spent a busy day there considering the ordinances and suggestive changes for harmony’s sake and for clarification. Attended Complimentary [page break] an entertainment in the Salt Lake Theater with five other members of the family in the evening

21 November 1922 • Tuesday

I attended to my duties at the temple as usual. Sealed up [Illegible] couples of the dead for E. F. Barlow. Spent some time at the President’s office with Presidents Penrose & Ivins.

22 November 1922 • Wednesday

I had a big day at the Temple, George & Mother stood as proxy and I sealed up ten couples of our own dead and 94 children to parents. I also sealed 34 couples of living & a number of Children to parents.

In the evening on complimentary tickets, my daughter Nina & I attended the Tabernacle concert where the renowned tenor singer, Mr. Hacket, performed.

23 November 1922 • Thursday

I attended weekly Council meeting and attended to my Temple duties. Sealed eleven couples living. Went through with the evening session for James Wood. of the Robinson family.

24 November 1922 • Friday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Spent an hour or more with the First Presidency considering the ordinances & ceremonies of the Temple. Some changes made. [page break] I left the temple after 7 P.M. and made ready & took train for Bancroft, Idaho, Stake.

25 November 1922 • Saturday

I arrived in Bancroft at about 6:30 A.M. Was met at the Station by Bro. Alex. Harris and I stayed at his home while in Bancroft.

Attended and spoke at both forenoon and afternoon meetings. In first meeting I occupied 60 min on subject of tithing & service.

In afternoon I occupied 60 min Subject. Qualifications necessary to be promoted in the Priesthood, to be called to preside or to go to the temple. Young people should be labored with to make them worthy. Repentance. Mercy. Justice. “Thy will be done.”

26 November 1922 • Sunday

At forenoon meeting I occupied 50 min. Subj: Except ye are one, Eph 4:11. What makes for oneness, union & love. What tears asunder. Bearing false witness, &c. In afternoon I occupied 50 min. Subj. First Principles. Read from Commentary & commented.

I got 4:24 train and went to Inkom where I set apart a Bro. Skeen first counselor to Bp. Geo G. Tate. Visited with my daughter Nerva & family until 1:30 A.M. when I got train for Salt Lake.

27 November 1922 • Monday

Arrived in City from Inkom 7:15 A.M. Went directly to the temple. Held Special meeting at 9 A.M. with abt. 170 young people from Provo who came up to do baptismal work. I was the speaker. [page break]

We learn that the ship on which Bro. McKay, Orin & others sailed from Montreal on 17th arrived in Liverpool Sat. 25th 11 A.M.

28 November 1922 • Tuesday

I attended to my Temple duties as usual. Sealed a number of couples of dead. We are arranging to put on an evening shift for baptismal work of 2½ hours, from 6 to 8:30 P.M. Mondays & Tuesdays. This additional work to be done by our regular evening workers.

I paid my taxes. In the evening I accompanied my son George to the Salt Lake Theater & saw Ira Dern win from Mike Yokal in a wrestling match.

29 November 1922 • Wednesday

Tomorrow being Thanksgiving day, the Council of the Presidency, the Twelve & Patriarch met to day in weekly session from 10 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

I had a number of sealings of young couples.

Attended my circle meeting in the evening.

30 November 1922 • Thursday

Thanksgiving day.

During the past night about 8 inches of snow fell and the storm continued most of the day.

Pres. Ivins was the speaker at the [page break] Temple meeting. We are having large companies to day. All of the companies and sessions except the 1 P.M. session.

We had a turky dinner at our house and Ruby & Jack, Lucena, Mamie & families were with us to dinner. Nina and children are living with us while her husband is away on a mission.

After seeing the evening session at the temple on the way I went home and visited with my folks. Retired late.
