The same.
This day I wrote mother an important letter in relation to Rubys proposed marriage. This is a type written letter, a copy of which I have on file.
2 September 1917 • Sunday
Liverpool.
All well.
I attended S. School & prayr meeting, Afternoon and evening meetings and occupied about 40 minutes in the evening Subject, War & Peace. I had good liberty. Read D&C 43:15 to end. A good day. I fasted until supper time and gave my offering to the poor 2/6.
3 September 1917 • Monday
All well.
I walked down town and attended to some business. Spent the remainder of the day and until 10 P.M. at my desk.
4 September 1917 • Tuesday
Liverpool.
All are well.
A fine day [p. 137] after about three weeks of stormy, cold weather. 69° in my office and no fire, window up all day.
I worked at my desk all day and in the evening attended reliefsociety meeting.
5 September 1917 • Wednesday
Worked all day at my desk and attended evening meeting. Mrs. & Mr. Alsop and Bro. & Sis. Townsend from Hyde in the Manchester conference called and took supper and staid to meeting. Sister Alsop, Bro Townsend & Bro. Toft were the speakers. After meeting I wrote to my wife.

All day at my desk.
7 September 1917 • Friday
All day at my desk as usual. My son & I walked down town after supper & I registered out for morning to Cardiff.
8 September 1917 • Saturday
I took 2:15 P.M. train for Cardiff, Wales, 172 mi. distant, due to arrive there at 8 P.M. The train was late. I was met at the Ry. station by Elder [p. 138] Stephen H. Winter and we went to the home of Pres. Day’s home and and attended a meeting there. The room was well filled and a good meeting was held to a late hour. I spoke about 30 min. I stayed at the Lodge with the Elders at 17 Grosvenor St. Canton, Card.

Cardiff.
All well.
I attended three public meetings held in the Cory lecture hall and spoke at each meeting 40 min., 50 min., and 25 min.
A good conference.
10 September 1917 • Monday
Returned home from Cardiff without special incident.
Elders Kent, Groome and Robinson, (Cyrus) came to Durham House prepared to sail for home tomorrow.
11 September 1917 • Tuesday
I worked at my office all day. Three elders boarded the Corsican for Montreal. Robinson, Groome & Kent. Elders Holmes and Phipps failed to get their passports in time.
Retired at 11:30 P.M. [p. 139]

Am well.
I spent the day at my desk, a busy day. Attended meeting in the evening.
13 September 1917 • Thursday
I am well and happy. Worked at my desk all day and evening. Wrote my wife.
14 September 1917 • Friday
I am well.
I worked at my desk all day and met the 7:15 P.M. train from Sheffield bearing Pres. John Holmes who is on his way home. After leaving the tram car at corner of London Road and Lime Street and jus after turning the corner I misses my gold ring. Just when I last saw it I could not tell or how it was lost or where. I have small hope of ever seeing it again. Originally my mother gave me a heavy gold ring. I had the misfortune to lose it. I think it was lost on one of my trips to Teton, Idaho. I bought another ring as nearly alike the one I lost as possible and had inscribed on the inside of it the same words as [p. 140] nearly as I could remember and it was this ring that I this day lost or discovered the loss. Elders Holms and Phipps came in this evening and staid with us at Durham House.

I am well. After bidding. Elders Holmes & Phipps goodbye, I took 10:30 train from Central Station and arrived in Norwich at 7 P.M. I was met at the station by Pres Skinner and taken to his lodge where I spent the night, 49 Alexandra Road.
16 September 1917 • Sunday

All well
Fine day.
I attended thre public meetings and a meeting of officers & missionaries and spoke at all except the 2:30 P.M. meeting. Good conference
17 September 1917 • Monday
I took 8:10 A.M. train and arrived in Liverpool at 5 P.M. Registered as usual at the Alien’s Office. After supper I read my accumulated mail, wrote up my journal &c. At 3:00 A.M. today the time of the country was [p. 141] changed from summer time to regular time, one hour later.

All day at my desk as usual and in the evening I wrote a letter to my wife.
19 September 1917 • Wednesday
I am well.
I spent the day at my desk and was the speaker at the evening meeting. I had a nice dream last night of my wife
20 September 1917 • Thursday
Well & happy.
Pleasant dreams again of my dear wife, four nights in succession. I spent the day at my desk as usual.
In putting my hand into my coat pocket this evening I found my gold ring which I first missed six days ago.
21 September 1917 • Friday
I am well & happy.
I made a trip down town to get booked out for London for tomorrow. My son Geo. walked down with me. The remainder of the time was spent at my desk. Assisted my son in consecrating a bottle of oil and administering [p. 142] to little Josephine who is ill from a swollen gum. Tooth trouble.
22 September 1917 • Saturday
Liverpool.
I am well and happy.
The forenoon I spent at my desk as usual and at 2:00 P.M. I left Liverpool for London arriving at Euston Station at 6:45 P.M.
Pres. James G. McKay met me at the station. I attended a concert at Deseret in the evening by our own people and Mrs Victor’s Troupe.
23 September 1917 • Sunday
London.
All well.
I attended a meeting of the elders from 9 to 10:45 o’clock and gave them instruction. All spoke.
At 11 A.M. I attended regular conference session and occupied about 20 min. The 2 P.M. meeting was made a testimonial meeting and thirty eight people bore testimony. No time wasted.
At a baptismal service I made remarks and occupied about 60 min at the evening sission. Assisted in confirming, administering to the sick &c. A busy day and profitable withal, may the Lord be praised. [p. 143]
24 September 1917 • Monday
London.
All well.
I left London on 9:30 A.M. train and arrived at Edge Hill station at 2 P.M. and walked home. I found letters from Mother and from Lucena the one from Lucena was written from Cardston, Canada. Good word. I spent the remainder of the day at my desk.
25 September 1917 • Tuesday
Liverpool.
All well.
Beautiful day.
My son and I walked down town in the forenoon on business. I booked in from London. Worked at my desk as usual. In the evening I wrote letters to Lucena, Oliver & Ray.
26 September 1917 • Wednesday
All well.
I worked at my desk all day as usual, and attended meeting in the evening and visited with the saints after.
27 September 1917 • Thursday
All well.
Towards night Franklin complained of headache and had fever. His father & I administered to him and he received treatment. [p. 144]
I spent the day at home as usual, working at my desk.
28 September 1917 • Friday
Liverpool.
All well to-day.
My son & I walked down to the peer-head. Attended to some business & rode home. The remainder of the day was spent at my desk. I got my gold ring from the jeweler’s to-day. I had it reduced in size to fit my finger, at a cost of 1/0 I wrote letters to my home folks, one each to Ruby, Ray, Mamie and Estella.
29 September 1917 • Saturday

I am well and happy.
I took 10:40 train for Sunderland and arrived at 6 P.M. Pres. P. M. Condie met me at the station and accompanied me to the Aliens office where I registered in and out for Monday. I went with him to the lodge and later to Mrs. Scotts at 1 Sydenham Terrace, Sunderland where I staid at nights while in Sunderland.

I attended three public meetings and spoke at each Attendance 92—105—133. Some [p. 145] strangers were present at each meeting. An interesting conference. Account of the proceedings will be found in the Star.
