10 April 1924 • Thursday

Attended morning Temple meeting. W. A. Morton was the Speaker. Attended weekly Council meeting which lasted from 10 A.M. to about 4:45 P.M. The matter of proposed lease of Salt Air resort and Ry. to my son Joel and [page break] Adamson and Romney came up and occupied much time, in which I engaged freely. I think I blocked a motion made by President Ivins and seconded by J. E. Talmage to not dispose of the property to anybody at this time. The motion was not put. I called attention to certain reasons assigned to justify the favorable action upon the motion which in my mind were no reasons at all stating that the most reasonable excuse that had been offered was the statement of Pres. Grant that from the beginning the Lessees were to furnish bonds that would be acceptable to Pres. Grant and that the London Lloyds bond is not acceptable. Pres. Grant practically agreed with my reasoning. He did say however that he does want to sell outright The President said he thought he would make such representation to the Lessees.

Later, I had a talk with Joel who said the bond spoken of in the proposal to lease had been furnished and that bond is satisfactory. That the London Lloyds is excess insurance which was not thought of in the beginning. He says he and his associates Adamson and Romney and Burt Judd, Their attorney met every demand that has been made that is possible of accomplishment. That the London Lloyds is the only [page break] Company Known which will write excess insurance. President Grant in our council meeting said they are the only company that write that kind of insurance. The Church has never had such insurance on the property.

Last evening the wives of the First Presidency and The Twelve entertained at Hotel Utah, their husbands and Bro. & Sis. Nibley.

I was engaged until that time with my work, the smaller commentary.

18 April 1924 • Friday

I bathed, shaved and other wise made my toilet and took the 8:30 A.M. train for Salina, N. Sevier Stake, arriving there at 3: [illegible] P.M. I was met by Bishop Gilbert M. Burr of Saline Second ward and was taken to his home where I had my headquarters. I spent the time while on the train and after arriving at Salina, in studying. By phone I arranged with Pres. Lazenby for a meeting with him in the early evening and with the Presidency at 8:00 P.M. [page break] I presented to Pres. Moroni Lazenby in the most diplomatic way at my command the matter of a reorganization of the Stake Presidency and he expressed his willingness to have done any thing that would help the cause. The stake affairs are much in need of a readjustment. I told him that in the event of a change in the Presidency, we would like him to receive the ordination of a Patriarch. There is no active patriarch in the Stake at present. He assented to that.

Pres. Lasenby also named seven members of the High Council who, he thought, should be released and suggested that they all be released and a new council without alternate be chosen. I accepted this suggestion. When the counselors came in I submitted these questions to them and they approved. It was 10:30 P.M. when we adjourned the meeting.

Fullmer of the H Council was released from his position in the H. Council and made President of the High Priests quorum. He chose Geo Wilson and Charles D. Johnson as his counselors. Bro. Fullmer is also the Stake Genealogical agent.
