I took my car to the Shop fore some adjustments, called on the Presidency, attended to desk work & correspondence at the Temple.

2 August 1929 • Friday

I spent the day reading, writing &c. In the evening Sister Richards and I attended the Farewell Testimonial of Frank J. Kooyman <& family> held in 19th ward. I was one of the Speakers. They are to Preside in the Netherlands.

3 August 1929 • Saturday

Attended the funeral services of Sister Emily Grant Madsen held in the Ensign ward at 1:00 P.M.

Attended the DeSoto Picnic of DeSoto car owners & their families, parade and picnic, games &c at Liberty park from 4:00 to 8:30 P.M. Orin & other left for Calif.

4 August 1929 • Sunday

Stormy night.

I was one of the Speakers at the [page break] funeral services of the 17 yr old Mecham boy, held in Central ward chapel 3d E & 27th So St.

We called on our daughter Mamie & family in the evening. Alberta Gallacher visited with mother during the afternoon and evening.

5 August 1929 • Monday

I spent several hours in the Temple. Assisted by Hyrum W. Taylor and her father, I administered to Junius F. Well’s daughter Abbie H. Wells.

6 August 1929 • Tuesday

Mailed $100. ch to Ray at Cologne.

Spent most of the day at home, reading, writing, cutting the lawn grass &c. Towards evening I played golf with my sons George & LeGrand.

7 August 1929 • Wednesday

I spent some time <abt 5 hrs> at the Temple directing the cleaning, painting, &c. I played a game of golf with John H. Taylor. In the late evening Mother and I went to a show.

8 August 1929 • Thursday

I played a game of golf with John H. Taylor & a Bro. Mortensen Took Mother down to See Sister Nerva & Aunt Zina, went to the Temple where I spent some time at my desk &c. We decided to get a new carpet for the main stairs and upper Hall and Mother, Sister Teasdale and Bro. Johnson selected the Carpet at Z.C.M.I. Mother & I called on our daughter Nerva and I gave her son Kenneth [page break] a blessing as he was to have an operation at the Hospital tomorrow Dr J. A Phipps to operate.

9 August 1929 • Friday

Lucena’s Birth-day

I went to the Temple in the morning, and remained until about 4: P.M.

After 6: P.M. I played a game of Golf with George, Edith & Franklin.

10 August 1929 • Saturday

Nerva’s Birthday.

I spent most of the day in the Temple, at desk work &c.

I administered to Kenneth Tate and to little Marylin Woodbury.

11 August 1929 • Sunday

I spent the day at home studying &c. We have Nina’s three children with us while she and Orin are in California, and the baby is very ill. I staid with Mother & the children.

12 August 1929 • Monday

Mother & I went to the Temple for the morning meeting. Jos Y. Card & Sterling Williams were the Speakers.

Later, I took mother home and then returned to the Temple where I remained until after 7: P.M. I sealed about 15 couples.

13 August 1929 • Tuesday

I solemnized a marriage at 9:30 A.M. Attended and was principle speaker at a meeting of Temple workers held in the world room of the Temple at 10:00 A.M. at which there were about 250 present. [page break]

In the afternoon I took mother and her two Sisters Maria & Estella to Syracuse to See their cousin Arnold Miller. We had a good visit with Arnold & family and his Sisters Maud Cook and Christense Bodily. W[e] arrived home about 10:00 P.M.

14 August 1929 • Wednesday

Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. 30 Couples sealed. Bro. Christensen assisted me. I took Sister R. home and got supper and returned to the Temple for evening work. Mother is caring for Nina’s Children while she is in California.

15 August 1929 • Thursday

I went to the Temple in the morning as usual and there attended to the duties of my calling. Spent some time at the Temple in the evening. Called on my daughter Nerva & Son Kenneth who a few days ago underwent a serious operation. About 12 oclock, mid night, Our folks returned from California. During the day, Oliver & Marie returned from Southern Utah where they have been on a vacation trip.

16 August 1929 • Friday

I went to the Temple as usual. Had some business with Pres. Grant at his office. Attended to my duties at the Temple as usual and made ready to leave for Blaine Stake to attend Stake Conference. Took 11:20 P.M. train.

17 August 1929 • Saturday

On the train I found this morning, Sister Annie Wells Cannon representing the [page break] Reliefsocieties and Chas. J. Ross the S.S. on their way to Carey to hold convention work. We changed trains at ShoShone and took [illegible] car to [Rock Abore?] where we were met by Pres. W. L. Adamson and taken to Carey perhapse 10 miles where the Conference of the Blaine Stake was to be held. Bro. Ross & I made our stay at President Adamson’s home. We attended and spoke at the afternoon and evening meetings and between meetings we went with Pres. Adamson 35 miles East to the “Craters of the Moon,” a national park. What we saw was wonderful.

18 August 1929 • Sunday

Carey, Idaho.

Weather warm

I spent the time between 8:30 and noon with the Stake Presidency. Spoke at the afternoon meeting and afterward set apart officers. Rode about 65 miles to Jerome and was speaker at the evening meeting. Then I rode back 19 miles to ShoShone & got 11: P.M. train for home.

19 August 1929 Monday

Arrived in Salt Lake at 7:20 this A.M. Went to the Temple where I Spent the day.

20 August 1929 • Tuesday

I took Mother, Sarah & Hugh & family choke cherrying which consumed most of the day.

21 August 1929 • Wednesday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. I sealed sixteen couples living. Mother and I went to a 7:20 P.M. Show from the Temple. [page break]

22 August 1929 • Thursday

Attended Temple meeting at 9:00 A.M. A committee of the Twelve at 9:30 & regular council meeting at 10:00. I sealed seven couples living. Attended funeral services and burial of Sister Emily Tanner Richards, wife of Franklin S. Richards from 3:00 to 5: P.M. I took mother and my sister Nerva in my car.

We returned to the Temple where we remained until the evening Companies were under way. Then we Called on Oliver & Marie before going home.

23 August 1929 • Friday

Mother and I spent a busy day at the Temple as usual.

My Son George & wife, Mother & I went to the late show and after the Show I took train for Driggs, Idaho.

24 August 1929 • Saturday

On the train this A.M. I met my niece Marcia Knowlton Howells who was on her way to Driggs representing the Reliefsocieties. We arrived in Driggs at 1:50 P.M. During the afternoon I visited the pea factory where the peas in the pod are assorted and shipped East to N.Y & other points. One hundred car loads were shipped from Driggs last year. 32 girls employed in sorting and Miss Forch of Rexburg has charge of them.

The Teton Stake Conference began at 8:00 P.M. The Reliefsociety sisters occupied part of the time. I spoke for about [page break] 45 Minutes with good liberty upon their topic, “Safeguarding the Young”: The Lord helped me. I spoke of the responsibility of parents & the home, the instinct & love of parents for children, the force of example and a large family. &. Chaperoning is a benefit in that it prevents temptation from being presented. The individual must have it in the soul so as to die in fighting if needs be to preserve these ideals, their morality. A man should defend & safeguard woman’s virtue as he would her life is in danger, drowning &c.

25 August 1929 • Sunday

Driggs, Idaho.

I attended and spoke at two public Conference meetings and a meeting of the Stake Presidency, called at my instance.

We administered to Bp Jensen’s little girl about three yrs old who is partially paralyzed in her lower limbs. The afternoon service began at 1:00 P.M. so that we got the 2:50 P.M. train for home.

26 August 1929 Monday

Arrived from Teton Stake at 7:10 A.M. Attended and presided at the Temple meeting as usual and attended to many other matters & questions.

I played a game of golf with my sons George & LeGrand towards evening. I bathed & changed my clothing and went to the Temple to see how the work was going &c. Estella & Pen was here over Sunday & Estella & baby remained here. Pen went home. [page break]

27 August 1929 • Tuesday

Home.

I spent some time at the Temple. Had my car to the shop for a while. Made two trips to Sugar House with Mother, Estella &c .

In the evening Mother & I went to Salt Air with the Evening Temple Workers. We bathed and had lunch together. A pleasant occasion.

28 August 1929 • Wednesday

Mother and I attended to the work at the temple as usual. I sealed about 20 living Couples and some children to seal to parents in 2nd Company About 25 couples in all.

I was the speaker in the Temple meeting, and was blessed of the Lord.

Mother & I remained at the temple until the evening sessions were under way.

29 August 1929 • Thursday

I attended Temple meeting at 8:00, Committee of the Twelve at 9:30 and the regular council meeting of the Presidency and Twelve at 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

I attended to my duties at the Temple when not in meetings. Sister R. & I spent some time at the Temple with the evening sessions.

30 August 1929 • Friday

I attended to my duties at the Temple as usual. Called on my grand daughter Thelma Tate Nobbs and administered to her My Son Oliver assisting me & her husband. [page break]

31 August 1929 • Saturday

At 1:00 A.M. to-day, my grand daughter Thelma Tate Nobbs gave birth to a beautiful 8 lb. baby girl.

I took 7:00 A.M. train for Rigby, Ida. Arrived in Rigby at 4: P.M. I was met by Pres. John W. Hart and taken to his home & later went with him to see the country there about.

I met with the Stake Presidency at 9:00 P.M. and attended the first session of the Rigby Stake Conference at 8:00 P.M. I occupied about 45 minutes.
