There were present Sisters Eliza R. Snow & Emeline [Emmeline] B. Wells [. . .]

Pres [Lucy A.] Clark stated, as Sr. Snow had expressed a desire to hear from the Association, a programme of exercises had been prepared [. . .]

Sr. Snow expressed herself highly delighted with the entertainment which had been provided. & had been contrasting in her mind the present time & the past when there were no Y. L. Asso: [Young Ladies Associations] but now the exercises are before us that formally existed in the former days of the Church. Many of our young are preparing themselves for an exalted position, and realize that they have missions to perform—Knew that the Asso: could assist the Bp. [John W. Hess] very materially in the government of the Ward. It is very necessary that the faculties of the young should be developed in Spiritual & in temporal refinement, & all have in [p. 253] there [their] reach to become Eminintnt Saints of God. Realized that with all that had been done, Zion was in a State of bondage, & cannot be free untill all the inhabitants are independent of the outside world with regard to clothing and articles of use, this is a matter that the young can be very prominent in bringing about. She felt deeply interested that all should be clad in Home Manufacture. Encouraged the culture of Silk, & hoped that the Young men would at least provide bins for the Y. L. to Store grain. Amongst all temporal counsels She reserved a place for encouraging refinement & Education of the mind Exhorted to faithfulness and ambition to strive for the highest prize.
