Counselor Miss E. R. Snow presented an item of business pertaining to a sister who desired a situation as seamstress or housekeeper. [n.p.]

Counselor Miss E. R Snow said

I feel to say God bless that sister that is starting out in this small way, in raising her attempts at silk culture. and endeavoring to build up Zion [n.p.] I find there are but few who are willing to advance in the undertaking of being self-sustaining. Sister [Mary Isabella Hales] Horne Sister [Elvira S.] Barney and myself were appointed as a committee to get means for machinery to commence weaving silk but we found very few who were willing to donate unless there is money in it. The gain of filthy lucre has been the watch word in the world and now it has become the watch word among the saints

We should have had millions of mulberry cuttings put out this spring so they could have been progressing in their growth. There are plenty of silk weavers and dyers, where <who> want employment, but where are the mulberry trees we ought to have to feed our worms from. it is as it was dreamed by a brother that the saints are asleep. I am thankful to see the number that come here but you are a few compared to the large number of Saints of God. I would say God bless you my sisters,

Mrs. E. S. Barney said, [. . .] I feel as sister Snow does, if the sisters would step forward in those branches of Home Industry they would be blessed in their labors. [. . .] [n.p.]
