Sister Elisa Snow was glad to be in our midst once again. She felt happy when she saw that someone desired to serve the Lord with their entire heart; but she also felt an endless grief to see how many who wanted to serve the world, and how few who wanted to serve the Lord. She talked about the terrible lethargy that was upon the people. She told about a dream of brother [George Q.] Cannon. He felt as though he mourned for Zion and what would happen, but a person came to him and told him not to mourn. He couldn’t help it, for the latter day saints had fallen asleep. Sister Elisa said that it would be no honor to be sleepy; but she said: Let us be alert and watchful, that we might be ready when the cry sounded. She talked a great deal about the silk culture; she said that it was a shame that there was no interest because they could see no economic benefit. People were too shortsighted to see the blessing, the freedom and independence that would follow obedience.

She called down the blessings of the Lord over the meeting.
