[. . .] Sister Eliza R. Snow, then arose and said, she wished to say a few words of encouragement to those in Office. She felt that we had a good selection, and was proud of them. Was pleased to see so many Sisters present, with their countenances beaming with the Spirit of the Lord, and was also glad to see more order, than when first we met. Congratulated the Sisters in performing their duties so well in visiting on the different blocks. Compared the commencement of our Society to the launching of a Vessel; and as being the most important realising we had a broad Ocean before us. It gave her great pleasure to see so many meet together, looking like a hive of bees. The little trifles that come in we must not despise. The world is made up of atoms, and trifling things put together, making good use of them, and turned to the best advantage, will in time, amount to considerable.

It was desirable, that the capabilities of those requiring help should be inquired into, and those who could work should have something given them to do, that there be no idlers in Zion. How necessary it was to be careful in the disposal of what we had on hand. We were very liable to have our sympathies worked upon by those who were unworthy, on [p. 8] that account we must be cautious, for we would have many come along who would need our help. Prayed that we might act as daughters of the Lord, and Saints of the Most High

The longer her experience in this Kingdom, the more glorious the future appeared. Exhorted us to be diligent and faithful, believing that we were on the verge of the coming of the Saviour; though there was much for us to do before we could behold His appearance. Sister Snow said that President [Brigham] Young had talked of getting up classes for the Sisters to instruct them, which would be a great privilege.

Woman can be a great help to man. Brother Joseph [Smith] used to say, the Sisters who lived their religion, provoked their Bretheren to good works. Prayed that the Lord would preserve us, that we might never step aside, but press forward in the line of our duty. [. . .] [p. 9]
