Eliza R. Snow then arose and addressed the meeting—exhorted the sisters to cultivate the spirit of union and to conduct themselves in such a manner as to make the Society honorable—said that the duties of the sisters in this organization are not only temporal but spiritual and that the influence of their labors would stand beyond this present life &c.

She said that the duties of woman in her domestic sphere were honorable and responsible—at home, the foundation and starting point of all that is great and good in society—it is for her to implant the principles of truth in the infant mind, and establish those principles which will prepare them to become kings and priests to God. She compared this life to the kitchen, wherein, if faithful, we shall prepare to enter the parlor at the end of our earthly labors &c.—that we must be diligent and cultivate ourselves—that while the brethren were engaged in improvement in the School of the Prophets, we must not neglect the opportunities which were granted us in associating in an organized capacity, &c.—we must be awake to the spirit of the times—must sustain the Prest. and other officers of the Society—sustain and watch over each other in the spirit of sisterly kindness &c. &c.

Mrs. President [Olive F.] Walker made some appropriate remarks & exprest her desires for the future welfare of the Society—desired to honor her calling &c.—spoke her thankfulness that Sisters Snow, [Sarah M.] Kimball and [Marinda N.] Hyde has visited us &c.
