Remarks by Coun. Miss E. R. Snow,

Sister Tompson [Mercy R. Thompson] spoke of meeting Brother Joseph [Smith] again, I it will require faithfulness on our part to enjoy that blessing. It is one thing to be and another thing to profess to be a saint. The cunning and wily spirits are more dangerous than open persecution. It is the young that are peculiarly subjected to the snares that are now in our midst. Those who have been organized into Retrenchment Societies are <now> in the safe path, One of the bishops was speaking to me about the [n.p.] course some of the young men were pursuing he said it was terrible and did not know what could be done I suggested that they be organized as the young ladies had been. If there is any thing in Zion that I am proud of it is the young ladies that have joined that organization, they are fair samples of salvation. I would exhort them to be faithful and not be baffled. Some may say Why does the President [Brigham] Young not organize a society for the young men? and Why does the bishops or some of the bretheren not do it and not have the President face all the opposition? Those who are carrying out the principles of Retrenchment are doing something to purify Zion. Let us continue in well doing We have promised to <must> labor a whole <all> day not a half a day. I do not wish to occupy all the time. I wish to speak about the physiological class we should know about the structure of our bodies. Sister [Margaret T.] Smoot has adopted a maxin [maxim] ”Woman know thyself” All those who can attend should do so, if you cannot attend regularly attend whenever you can, the class meets every Tuesday and Thursday at four oclock P.M She then read a list of subscriptions for the educational fund.

Coun. Miss E. R. Snow said she had received a note from Miss [Louisa Lula] Greene Editress of the exponent, stating that some articles which were published in the first number, would in a short time be republished, and requesting those who wished to subscribe for the Exponent to do so as soon as possible. [n.p.]
