Fasted, paid donations and attended meeting and had the baby blessed. P’d Wilford Richards $3.75 on lot in Plymouth.

Attended Young people’s Conference in Bountiful.

Took a load of hay to S. L. City.

6 January 1885 • Tuesday

Had my team sharp hod and loaded a load of hay.

Took a load of hay to S. L. City and took it to Bp. Preston’s on tithing.

8 January 1885 • Thursday

Loaded hay for Town, took Alice over to Frank’s repaired endgate to wagon box, cloth-box &c., went after Alice and attended Seventies meeting in the evening.

9 January 1885 • Friday

Took hay to S. L. City and sold to Thompson @ 11.00/100 per ton.

10 January 1885 • Saturday

Rained all day, remained at home all day, repaired hay-rack and coffee mill &c.

11 January 1885 • Sunday

Attended Sunday-school and meeting, spoke in meeting and offered the ben[ediction].

12 January 1885 • Monday

Loaded hay for S. L. City, took care of the babies while Alice washed, attended Y. M. M. I. Ass, offered the benediction, appointed committee on programme for Joint session.

13 January 1885 • Tuesday

Took a load of hay to S. L. City. [p. 79]

14 January 1885 • Wednesday

Visited as a Ward Teacher, and met at Jacob Millers to make a programme for Joint session of Y. M. & Y. L. Association.

15 January 1885 • Thursday

Loaded hay for S. L. C. read Bible and Compendium and attended Seventies meeting in the evening.

16 January 1885 • Friday

Visited as a Ward Teacher, went over to Nerva’s & to Alma Smith’s he being sick, had Loren and Ebin and families to visit us in the evening. 8 in. snow fell in night.

17 January 1885 • Saturday

Spent the day at home Attended Teachers meeting in the evening. about 4 in of snow fell.

18 January 1885 • Sunday

Attended Sunday School and meeting Grand’s wife and Sarah Jane Came home with us and stayed till evening meeting, Grand called and took supper with us. Copied Theological Questions in the evening, heavy snow during the night snow 15 in. deep.

19 January 1885 • Monday

Took care of the babies while Alice washed, made paths &c. finished copying theological questions read papers &c.

20 January 1885 • Tuesday

Took Alice over to Nervas, took the Hayrack home &c. Tended babies while Alice ironed.

21 January 1885 • Wednesday

Put wagon box on wagon and repaired brake blocks &c. rec’d a visit from Grand & Loren and families also Maggie Smith and Sarah Jane Robinson. had supper and spent the evening. [p. 80]

Theological Questions

1st Question,— What is Christianity?

Answer,— It is that branch of Theology which treats of the religion of Jesus Christ and which recognizes the Old and the New Testaments as divine revelation.

2nd Q. Who is Jesus Christ?

Ans. He is the Son of God, Book of Mormon page 498, verse 15.

3d Quest. Repeat the passage.

Ans. Behold I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth and all things that in them are. I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father and the Father in me, and in me hath the Father glorified his name.

4th Q. What was the great object of the mission of Jesus Christ?

Ans. First, to introduce the Gospel, Second, to make an atonement through the shedding of his blood for the fall of man, and bring about the redemption through the resurection of the dead.

5th Q. When was he born?

Ans. He was born, according to our rec[k]oning of time, 4004 years after Adam was placed upon the earth

6th Q. Where was he born?

Ans. He was born in a stable and cradled in a manger at Bethlehem of Judea. [p. 81]

7th Quest. How old was he when he began his ministry?

Ans. He was about 30 years old.

8th Q. How long did his ministry last, and what brought it to a close?

Ans. His ministry lasted three and a half years, and it was then ended by his being crucified by wicked men.

9th Q. Did Jesus visit any other people than the Jews?

Ans. Yes.

10th Quest. Who were they?

Ans. The Nephites, Bk. Mormon pages 501 & 2.

11th Quest. Do you think he visited any other people?

Ans. We do. Bk. Mormon page 513 verses 1, 2, & 3. (Repeat) <And> Verily, verily I say unto you, that I have other sheep that are not of this land, neither of the land of Jerusalem, neither in any parts of that land round about whither I have been to minister, for they of whom I speak are they who have not as yet heard my voice, neither have I at any time manifested my self unto them, but I have received a commandment of the Father that I shall go unto them, and that they shall hear my voice and shall be numbered among my sheep that there may be one fold and one shepherd, therefore I go to show myself unto them. [p. 82]

12th Quest. Taking the Church established by Christ as a pattern, what officers should there be in the Church.

Ans. 1st, Apostles, 2nd Prophets, 3d Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers &c.

13th Q Was the establishment of the Church attended by any manifestations of power?

Ans. Yes.

14th How do you prove it?

Ans. Acts 2nd chapter 2nd, 3d & 4th verses; “and suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance.

15th Q. Was there a mission given to the Apostles by the Savior?

Ans. There was. Mark 16th chapter 15th & 16th verses. “And he said unto them, go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.

16th Q. Did Jesus say signs should follow them that believe?

Ans. He did. Mark 16th chapter 17th & 18th verses. “And these signs shall follow them that believe; [p. 83] In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpants, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.”

17th Q. Did the signs follow the believers?

Ans. They did, Mark 16th chapter and 20th verse, “And they went forth and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following

18th. Q. Is the work or mission of the Savior finished?

Ans. No, and will not be until the last resurection, when he has subdued all enemies under his feet, perfected his work; and completed the salvation of man; Then he will be crowned king of this earth and reign for-ever

Second Part

1st Question. Who was Joseph Smith?

Ans. He was a prophet of God raised up in the nineteenth century.

2nd Q. When and where was he born?

Ans. He was born on the 23d of December 1805 at Sharon, Windsor County, State of Vermont.

3d Q. What was the great object of the mission of Joseph Smith. [p. 84]

Ans. It was to introduce the fullness of the Gospel, and organize the Church of Jesus Christ upon the earth.

4th Q. Does the church as organized by Joseph Smith corrispond with the church set up by Jesus and his Apostles?

Ans. It does. It has the same offices; the same gifts follow the believer, and all its ordinances are administered in the same manner.

5th Q. How long had the Church organized by Jesus and his Apostles been driven from the earth at the time Joseph Smith was born?

Ans. About 1400 years.

6th Quest. Why is Joseph smith called a restorer?

Ans. Because through him, all the Priesthood with all its ordinances, powers, and blessings was restored to the earth.

7th. Q. Why is Joseph Smith called one of the greatest prophets that ever lived?

Ans. Because through him God revealed some of the greatest truths that have ever been revealed to man; and because he was the founder of the Church of Christ in the dispensation of the fullness of times, the greatest of all dispensations.

8th Q. Will the Church organized by Joseph Smith finally be driven from the earth as was the one set up by Jesus <the Savior> and his Apostles? [p. 85]

Ans. No, It will break in pieces all other kingdoms and stand for ever.

Notified the districk of tithing settle ment, and settled tithing $25.90 for 1884. Attended Seventies meeting in the evening

23 January 1885 • Friday

Took Alice over to Nervas, attended High Council meeting both in fore and after noon.

24 January 1885 • Saturday

Staid in and read all day.

25 January 1885 • Sunday

Attended Sunday-school and meeting, remained at home in the evening.

26 January 1885 • Monday

remained at home and took care of Georgie and studied, attended joint meeting of young men & Young Ladies Associations in the evening.

27 January 1885 • Tuesday

Alice not returned, I took care of the boy did chores studied till the folks came from Town then took them over to Nerva’s Lou & children; Alice, babies & I spent the evening at Nerva’s.

28 January 1885 • Wednesday

Took care of the babies while Alice washed. Jacob Peart signed the deed for 80 acres on Bear River.

29 January 1885 • Thursday

Bro. Oliver and Annie Robinson also Annie Wilcox spent the day and part the evening. attended Seventies meeting

30 January 1885 • Friday

Attended Stake Priesthood meeting and visited our beat as a teacher from the Y. Men’s Association attended a rehersal in the evening. [p. 86]

31 January 1885 • Saturday

Took part in the Matinee and theatre “Woman’s Love” Newel Whitney and Lyn. Standing took dinner with us.
