Emmeline B. Wells, Diary, vol. 37, 1 Jan.–23 Dec. 1910; 29 May–27 Dec. 1911; 1 Jan.–27 Sept. 1912; 9 Apr.–30 Dec. 1913; 12–13 Nov. 1914, L. Tom Perry Special Collections, Harold B. Lee Library, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah (Vault MSS 510).
Pocket-size diary measuring 6⅞ × 4⅛ × ⅝ inches. This diary has a red cloth-covered hardcover with the words “Date Book For 1910” embossed in white lettering. The pages are preprinted for 1910, with one entry per page. The diary includes preprinted postage rate information in the front and pages in the back for notes and memoranda. The diary was inscribed primarily by EBW, but it also contains several entries in the handwriting of secretaries or others who assisted her. The non-EBW entries are typically lists of names, addresses, or other notes rather than first-person narrative entries.
This diary contains entries for dates in 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913, and 1914. In a number of cases, EBW or another scribe modified the preprinted date or inscribed a new date. Occasionally, the intended date is incomplete or unclear; in these cases, the editors have analyzed handwriting and historical context to provide the most likely date. For the presentation on this website, sections from the original diary are placed where they belong chronologically.
