Benjamin Lewis Bowen was born on 14 January 1852 to Lewis Bowen and Mary Ann Harris in Monmouth, Wales. In 1863, he immigrated to Utah Territory with his family and moved to Tooele, Utah Territory, in 1866. Bowen worked in the mines in Stockton and Ophir, Utah Territory, and was also a farmer. He married Barbara Gowans, daughter of Hugh S. and Betsy Gowans, on July 24, 1871. The couple had eleven children. Bowen died on 13 May 1927 in Tooele.[1]
