Born 6 July 1834 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1 Son of William Nuttall and Mary Langhorn.2 Apprenticed as a ship and boat builder at age thirteen.3 Baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by John Taylor, 8 Oct. 1850.4 Emigrated to the U.S. on the Rockaway, arriving in New Orleans, 25 Apr. 1852.5 Migrated to the Salt Lake Valley with the Philip De La Mare freight train, arriving 10 Nov. 1852.6 Participated in the Wakara conflict, July 1853.7 Member of the committee that organized the first Sunday School in Provo, Utah Co., Utah Territory, 1853.8 Married Elizabeth Clarkson, 25 Dec. 1856, in Provo.9 Participated in plural marriage.10 County recorder and probate and county clerk of Utah Co., 21 Mar. 1864–1875.11 Chief clerk for the Legislative Council of the Utah Legislature, 1874, 1878, 1882.12 Served a mission to England, 1874–1875.13 Served as bishop of the ward in Kanab, Kane Co., Utah Territory, 1875.14 President of the Kanab Stake, 1877–1884.15 Recorder for Brigham Young; personal secretary to John Taylor and Wilford Woodruff, 1876–1892.16 Regent of Deseret University, beginning 20 Feb. 1880.17 Territorial superintendent of district schools for Utah Territory, 1881–1887.18 Director and secretary of Zion’s Savings Bank & Trust Co., 23 Nov. 1883.19 Appointed to take charge of the Church’s real estate matters and the legal interests of the Relief Society, 24 Feb. 1892.20 Member of the board of directors of the Saltair Beach Company, June 1895.21 Member of the Sunday School Union board, 11 Nov. 1897.22 Died 23 Feb. 1905 in Salt Lake City.23
