John Quayle Cannon, Jr.

Born 20 Oct. 1901 at Salt Lake City.1 Son of John Quayle Cannon and Elizabeth Ann Wells.2 Grandson of EBW.3 Baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 20 Oct. 1909.4 Worked as a sportswriter and assistant editor for the Deseret News while attending college, 1920–1924.5 Graduated from the University of Utah, 1923, and from George Washington University, 1929.6 Moved to Washington DC, by 1927.7 Married Anna Laura Stohl, 26 June 1928, in Salt Lake City.8 Held positions on the U.S. Bureau of Standards, 1929–1931, and on the Civil Service Commission, 1932–1937.9 Served as the assistant to the chief examiner on legal matters, 1940–1942; assistant to Attorney General Francis Biddle, 1944–1945.10 Joined the Radio Corporation of America (RCA); served as the corporate secretary of RCA holdings, including the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), 1952–1967.11 Served as bishop of the Westchester Ward, 1958–1964, in Westchester Co., New York.12 Appointed coordinator for the Church Information Service, Nov. 1967.13 Sat on local and national college councils, 1969–1974.14 Died 5 Dec. 1980 in Salt Lake City.15
